Thought I'd draw a simple scribble of Chuck Jones's adaptation of 'The Cricket in Times Square' characters (from left to right: Tucker, Harry and Chester).
These characters first occurred in literary form, in George Selden's 'The Cricket in Times Square' (1960).
The book was adapted to animation by Chuck Jones, and had two other specials (that I know of) proceeding it: 'A Very Merry Cricket' and 'Yankee Doodle Cricket'.
I was going to feature a different pencil, but I'm not likely to make anything new between now and Christmas Day, so I chose this pencil for its message.
HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "Learn to draw, Chippy. I'm not giving you a pass because of the holiday. There are several places in this drawing where a straight-edge would've made some difference. I know you're half-blind, but there's no excuse for some of this---ever hear of this cool new thing called 'symmetry', you stupid idiot you? And would you die if you tried drawing the characters (I dunno) at least looking at each other? If you're going to take time drawing something, at least have the subjects arranged nicely---have them interact. As it is, you just draw them one at a time, with indifference to the others. The fact is, you could have made three ACOs rather than this static, lifeless image of three characters standing. At least your ACO subjects have the excuse of being pin-ups---this is just lazy, and verifies the fact you can't draw worth a damn" :p
Thank you; I'm glad you like the drawing.
HYPOTHETICAWATCHER: "And thank you for agreeing with me. Do better next time, or save the space on IB's server for someone who'll use it well"
:(
HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "Go ahead and frown; I don't care about your feelings. You're a grown man who's been drawing for years. You know better than to post 'art' like this. If you'd listen just once to reason, and apply it, you'd do better. As it is, most have learned to ignore your uploads---you're on more blacklists than you realize"
Are you finished?
HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "I may as well be---you're too stubborn and lazy to take anything I say into real consideration. Looking forward to your next stale upload---I wonder if the next ACO pose will show the subject standing or jumping---can't really expect anything else at this point"
This is why I don't want to draw anymore; there's no joy left in it
Fine, I agree: I could have made a livelier drawing. This one's pretty bad---I'm not even sure what Harry is looking at. :p But, I'm not drawing it over---it's here to absorb server space, as you say, as well contribute to my humiliation; I just wanted a fucking upload (don't even ask me what for ...habit, I guess).
It's just hard to have fun with art or be creative when I'm judging every line and every curve. Yes, I drew the characters one at a time---with each, I expected to crumble up the paper and toss it as I have so many other attempts. I didn't have a cheery Christmas scene in mind---I just wanted to get through it and draw as 'safely' as possible. The end result is this trash---and, yes, I hate it as much as the hypothetical; I don't even feel like tagging it properly.
I honestly do not remember ever seeing that, but then again we only JUST got a Color tv transmitter in the area where I live so...(jk but not really!!)
I like that pencil. It's simple and to the point (WINK). And on that note YOU have a Merry Christmas yourself. :)

It's the guilt/self-consciousness in my head talking.
There are no original thoughts in my head---no one has any, really ...so I give voice to mine as it surely echos what others already think and believe.
