Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total oblivion.
Death. Reality. The Unknown. What is the one thing that connects these three concepts? Fear. In the end, it all comes down to one basic emotion. Reality is intimidating, because we fear it's consequences. The unknown is scary because our minds fear what we can't comprehend. Even the finality of death is only a worry because we fear it and what would Halloween even be with fear? It is the base human feeling that it pinpoints, and the root of all things that go bump in the night.
While this may just be my take on the concept, to me, the Boogeyman is fear incarnate. It is the origin and a manifestation of all our fears. It may seem a little self indulgent, choosing my own character for this year's winner, but thematically it worked far too perfectly and it's not as if I created the concept of the Boogeyman, nor do it even have a set design. And so what if it's a little self indulgent? 2014 was and forever shall be my favorite year when it comes to these countdowns, it only makes sense that it should all come back to it in the end! (plus, ironically the only blemish I felt was in that entire countdown was the Boogeyman, who's picture I never really liked and have wanted to correct that ever since I made it)
As one Halloween sadly comes and goes, always remember; never let fear consume you~
