Ever since I developed my own style for the Mario Bros., starting with this picture: https://inkbunny.net/s/1447598 I've wanted to try my hand at the infamous "Wario Bros." and what better time to do so then on Wario's 30th anniversary? (this was completely unintentional and I'm mad I didn't know ahead of time to post this on the 21st, but it's still a pretty funny coincidence) How exactly would I depict them, especially as they already fit my aesthetic for the most part? Well, firstly I wanted to harken back to Wario's villainous roots. Call me what you will, but I far more prefer Wario as a villain or at the very least, not whatever he's been turned into for WarioWare! I wanted something that opposed the way I made Mario and Luigi in every way.
While the Mario Bros. are humble and cute, the Wario Bros. are creepy and disturbing. While the Mario Bros. live in a vibrant, colorful world, the Wario Bros. are from a barren, stark world. While the Mario Bros. colors are muted, the Wario Bros. are eye-piercing. Hence why I changed Waluigi's color scheme, I always felt purple and black looked too nice. For this, I wanted him to be an eyesore on equal footing with Wario. To sum it up, I wanted everything about the Wario Bros. and their world to just seem wrong and I think after a bit of retooling I managed to come up with something I really like and also fits into the way I've re-imagined the Mushroom Kingdom!~
Quick shout out as well to https://www.deviantart.com/kosperry who's Don Bluth styled versions of Wario and Waluigi helped inspire some of my design choices!
