I last drew Woof on February 9, 2020 ...and it shows in all the worse ways. So, I've redrawn Woof ...the new art is still bad, but not AS bad as the old (so there's that).
I'd also assert that woof is, in fact, a Christian cartoon character. Why so?
Because he once was lost, but now is found ...and was blind, but now he sees!
...That was supposed to be funny. You know, like Woof is a character one has to find in a *Where's Waldo game ...and wears glasses so he can see.
Well, 'I' thought it was funny. :p
*Yes, I know it's 'Where's Wally' in the UK ...but I'm an American in America, so I say 'Where's Waldo'. :p
Pencil...
I could have featured an English pencil with Woof, but decided to go with a Canadian pencil instead. Why? Because Woof is clearly as Canadian as he is Christian (...at least in my head canon).
Anyway, the featured pencil is a Canadian-made, WWII-era Eagle.
The obverse side of this pencil is advertising WWII Victory Bonds, with the patriotic 'Let's Go Canada!' cheer (as shown here): https://sta.sh/01fm50sxa86f
Below is my description for my former 'Woof' ACO card, written 02/02/2020. I thought to keep the description as I will be deleting the original card soon (if I haven't already).
===============
COMPOSED 02/09/2020,
Yesterday was a day of finding things.
From the thrift, I found some ROTC pins (I can flip these!), as well as a DVD of the first five episodes of 'Hoop Days' (a basketball anime ...that has some endearing qualities to it, let's say). Most importantly, I found a bag of mostly light bluish-gray Lego pieces, in extremely good condition (perfect for my tower MOC)! :D
Last, from the food market, I discovered a dessert called 'Giant Caplico' (expect art of its mascot).
Oh, I found one other thing: Waldo. :3
Specifically, I re-discovered the 'Where's Waldo' (or 'Where's Wally', for those in the UK) animated series from the 1990's, via a compilation of vintage television ads uploaded to YouTube.
...Upon seeing the ad, I had some very vague recollections of seeing the Waldo series announced before, albeit I don't think I'd ever watched the show.
I searched for an episode to view ...and found I couldn't sit through it. :P
Even so, I decided to add Waldo's dog 'Woof' to my draw list, as I like obscure characters/shows ('Where's Waldo' certainly qualifies). Further, I decided today to draw Woof off my list, as I have enough subjects rotting there as it is---best to get new arrivals out of the way quick! XD
Anyway...
'Where's Waldo' is based on a series of children's picture books in which the character Waldo would be hidden somewhere on the pages. The goal was to 'find' Waldo ...which wasn't easy (and, yes, I had some of these books).
Despite his tacky, peppermint sweater, Waldo was adept at hiding himself among swarms of people and other objects, arranged in such ways that one's eye couldn't find Waldo at a glance. The books would also give the viewer other objects to look for, thereby increasing their value.
FUN FACT: Waldo also had an NES game based on this concept ...and, yes, I've played it. :3
But how does one go about contriving an animated series from the 'Waldo' concept, esp. in the 1990's when kids' programming had to be 'educational'?
The simple answer is: you don't. The longer answer is you provide Waldo an objective in a strange part of the world and/or point in time, usually with some type of artifact or tool to look for. Sounds like geography and history to me! ...And Woof's an animal, and nature is educational, right? Right? :P
FINAL FUN FACT: I have a lot of difficulty pronouncing 'Woof'. I can do it if I try, but by default, the word comes out as 'Wuff'. ^^
Truth be told, prior to 2020 (when I first read the wiki article) I always thought Waldo was Canadian. Even today, my brain cannot internalize that he's English! XD
I think it's the hat (and the stripes). :p
How terrible! D: Such mystery. lol Truth be told, prior to 2020 (when I first read the wiki articl
