Better than a Petri dish, testtubes and a turkey baster. (You can google the Turkey baster fertilization...)

Well, at least now we know there was no evil intentions.

Tho poor Auntie.

Temporal magic really takes it out of a being, even when there's a willing assistant to provide a target beacon for the spell.  I guess Auntie wanted to make sure her last great magic would be for a good cause.

I'm kinda surprised I didn't see this coming once I realized what the problem was that needed fixing, and who was present. Ahh well, that's just what makes this sort of thing fun and exciting!

I'm curious what it says on the book. Is that Spanish? Portugese? Something else, mixed in?

I imagine she wasn't planning on being around much longer as it is. Maybe she looked healthier than she was? Maybe she's rewarding them with something that costs so much, to really sell to them how important it is that this community be protected by them, in exchange.

I wonder then, what this community will become? Perhaps it will be important to the future! ;)

Still, a sad day for a little girl and two friendly folks.

It looks like the book says Pretérito el Futuro which can be read a few different ways if I remember correctly, Past of the Future I think.
DrJavi

That would be Latin.
Relee

So! It's the root language! That makes sense. I thought the AE was a single letter from a different alphabet so I was guessing you had mixed things in, but now I see where I was confused.

But can you read Meiga's spells?
Relee

The ones she's saying out loud? Or the script that's part of the circle?

I can't quite make out the circle's text, though it looks like the same script as what she's incanting.

The incantation letters I'm not sure about at all. The fish symbols look sort of familiar. I'd guess some kind of ancient text? It sorta makes me think Egyptian, but they're famous for their Heiroglyphics. Otherwise, there's Hebrew, but also old languages like Sumerian and Babylonian...

Oh great, you've given me a puzzle now. I started actually looking up the character sets. So, it's DEFINALTEY not Hebrew, and it's not cuneiform so probably not Sumerian or Babylonian. It looks somewhat like Theban script, though not quite the same? I hadn't heard of Theban script before, and apparently it's sometimes called the Witch's Alphabet, so that kinda fits. There's also Avestan characters added to it, on a page I'm looking at. It doesn't seem to be written in that blocky way, though...

Well I haven't found anything that matches what you've got there. I'd like to keep looking, but I should be focusing on other things. XD

It's entirely made up, but still readable, if you find out how it works.

Interesting! I wondered if that was it. Of course, all writing is made up, but the language looks really neat. Did you use any of those I listed as inspiration?
DrJavi

Nope. Just the good old Latin alphabet, but distorted.

Sad bat makes me nervous.
Baree

Little bat is sad, future big bat is smiling. Lets you know that in the future she can give today's events a place and find peace with it. Or that's what I take from it anyway. Also means they will see each other at least once more. But yeah... all signs indicate she has a good reason to be sad right now.

also means she's happy to see her auntie again if only for a moment. :)

Well, that answers one question...

Somehow I originally missed the throwback here. After rereading some of the pages of the last story Cavanagh reminded me of Barbara. Could be because they are both  big burly girls with horns and whatnot (or can be in the case of Cavanagh). So this is probably wrong, but it occurs to me we don't know how these adapters work. The following thought came to me: What if Cavanagh is Barbara's and Gascón's kid? Like I said, probably not gonna be the case but I wanna put it out there just in case my random thought turns out to be true. Not sure how that would work with the 300+ years, but if Tinkya can do it... *Shrugs*.
Baree

Ok, after finding the first Misbegotten Kittens, obviously not the case :).
DrJavi

Nope, Rayco isn't Barbara's descendant, but both Barbara's descendant and Rayco's ancestor do appear briefly in this chapter.

Future Tinkya has no bat wings?
And she looks sad, knowing what will happen next.....
DrJavi

Doing magic with wings is hard, so the first spell she learned lets her remove them when they aren't needed.

Both appear to be in good hands, but I fear that the witch may not have the power to return the Adapter (the blue critter) to its time period.

Ha ha ha! How masterfull!

This reminds me of the scene in "Arrival", where the protagonist, her mind bridging two points in time, receives information in the future from a Chinese general, and uses it to defuse a crisis in the present that would have imperiled both humans and aliens.

Ohhhhhhh my god, chapter 3 happens in the future and Tinkya is sending cures from the future to her past self????
Makes me wonder why her child self looks sad, could be her already with a lot of things to remember to send to the past? Could be that she knows about the pandemic of ch. 3?
