Yes, this art is smudgier than usual (more on this later)...

Seems the cubs are playing pirates---Mimi's arrived just in time to join!

MIMI: "Ooo! Pirates! Can I play?"

TASLI (taking Mimi captive): "Beseeching the captain to allow me to walk the stowaway off the plank!"

MIMI (not one to miss an opportunity): "Perchance the good captain would prefer to keep me as a concubine?"

GENE (to Mubba): "I prefer the plank idea. First Mate Mubba---we need a shark!"

MUBBA: "Aye, Cap'n!"

MUBBA (as shark): "Dunnn dunn, dunnn dunn..."

MIMI (standing on the plank): "I should point out I'm technically the only one NOT treading in water!"

She has a point. :3

For those who don't get it, this is a the-floor-is-lava scenario, activated when Mubba became a shark (Gene didn't think his decision through). ^^

Regarding the smudges ...why am I drawing with the Rapis Extra? It's an awkward pencil to start with, yet I insisted on it today (I drew this comic beginning to to end with it). :P
To make it worse, I'm out of the dull-yellow paper I've been using to make comics, so I used this bright yellow paper ...which is not as favorable as too much of it bleeds through my colors.

And, yes, I had to redraw Gene in the last panel, because I drew him in the wrong place ...and yet failed to place him properly the second time (hence he has no bottom).
Thankfully, I'm not watched for my quality ...but perhaps for my lack thereof (my art can help others feel better about their own, I guess---could be worse, you could draw like Chippy! XD).

My art sucks anyway, and the landfill will happily accept it as-is. :3

Pencil...

The featured pencil has Jolly Rogers on it, because pirates. Arr! :3

Aren't women considered bad luck on a sailing ship?

I know nothing about the nautical life.

Lego had female pirate minifigs, and Pippi Longstocking was a pirate, so my (very limited) pirate experiences have been inclusive. ^^

I suppose it's jsut a good thing Mimi didn't tell them about her booty.

Also, their crew is lacking. A cat, a raccoon, a bunny.... but no rodents offering pastries. Where are the REAL pie rats?

Mubba: Apple for $2.50 a slice, blueberry for $2, but ONLY around Barbados.

Gene: What?

Mubba: Those are the pie-rates of the Carribean.

I'll hence refer to them as privateers. Nothing you can do with that! :D

Gene: Chippy's.

Chip: PRIVATEERS!

I used to love playing games like that. It would eventually get so complex that we would always forget about the simplest things and realize (to our young horror) that we would somehow have lost the game. (e.g: just like the gang is doing and forget that we were doing something on something forbidden like the floor being water/lava)

Those were the simplest times back when I was a little Geoff and you were a little Chipper lol. :3 Also, those times where you would argue if you got hit or not...

Kid1: I hit you for a million damage.

Kid2: Nuhuh... I've got a cloak that protected me.

Kid1: That's not how you play the game.

Kid2: That's how I play the game.

Ah... the good old days...

Your art does NOT suck lmao. You are an amazing artist. I'm a decent artist too. But, my art isn't the best either. No one's art is absolutely perfect. Everyone will be their own worst critic. And everyone has their own art style. I think this turned out not only great, but also adorably well :3
FoxyIbLover

This is so true, but I am not sure why you're describing your own art as not being very good. I did that once and got called out for it.
ShiftyGuy1994

FoxyIbLover

You said it yourself, noone is perfect. I know you meant well, but why did you bring up your own art specifically?
ShiftyGuy1994
Because to make a point. I was complimenting him by saying his artwork is perfect and I genuinely think that. But I know what that is like to not feel like a perfect artist. That's why I brought my artwork. Because I also have people saying I'm a great artist. But I'm truly not. And I don't consider myself a great artist. I'm not bad, but I could be better. And I've made artwork that I'm not impressed with.

My mind is so muddled with self-deprecation.

Like, I look at this cartoon---a quickie, which by definition isn't intending for the quality of the art to be the focus ...yet I take every opportunity I can to step on it. It's what I do, I suppose.

I like how you make art. I think I discovered it one day when I was refreshing the front page of FA. If memory serves, I noted you about how you color on school paper; that I liked the effect. :3
FoxyIbLover

Do you wish you could draw more like Shifty?
IceAgeChippies
That reads like a loaded question ...so I'll dodge it. ^^

I'll say I'm a fairly reckless artist, esp. with quickies.

Like, I'll forego consistency just to get the drawing done (an example would be Mimi in the second panel).
I 'can' draw consistently if I want to or (really) need to, like with Wuffle's rotation here: https://inkbunny.net/s/2696319
That said, in that example, I cared more about Wuffle's head than the wolf hat (and in the final panel, I just scribbled the whole character).

A REAL cartooner draws everything on a line. If you want to involve Shifty in this, Shifty can (and usually does) draw with precision insofar as their use of symmetry (I don't know if he uses guide lines, but I don't see how he couldn't).
As for me: I just draw ...and I either hate the result or I just dislike it. :3
FoxyIbLover

Sorry for my poor choice of words. Allow me to rephrase:

Do you wish you could draw more consistently like a "real cartooner"?

(I wish I were better at asking questions without coming across the wrong way.)

I wouldn't recommend someone drawing like me lol. Everyone has their own art style. Everyone should do what they feel is right, when it comes to how they draw. Don't be like me haha. My art style can be complex :3
FoxyIbLover

Yes, of course. :-)
ShiftyGuy1994

I can be like that with myself too honestly. I'm no stranger to that lol. Again, we can be our own worst critics lol. I try to make my art as perfect as I can. Though I can't irritate enough, nothing of mine will be 100%. But, I can get close sometimes lol. Perfection and realism is always my goal with my drawings. And I always look to switch things up sometimes with my art-style. But, I never plan to get any better at it. And I never plan to draw on anything than just lined paper.

And thank you! I'm glad you like my art :3 It's an honor for me to hear that, especially from you :) I certainly do my best lol. And yes indeed, that's what I use! And that's all I'll ever use haha. I wouldn't want to draw any other way honestly. As for one, sometimes the lines in the paper help me out actually. And also, I just like the simplicity of lined paper lol. I'm not sure if I remember that honestly haha. You probably did. I just can't remember right off hand lol
