I did manage to get something put together just in time for Halloween 2021.
This is on Highway 54, north of Vaughn, New Mexico in the summer of 1960. Here is a lone mutated ant that survived when the U.S. Army wiped them out in 1954. Obviously, the U.S. Army missed one 6 years earlier, and there it is crossing Highway 54 at 4:17 am. So far, no one yet is aware there is still one 12 foot long giant ant that has been roaming around in the deserts of New Mexico for the past 6 years. However, once it is discovered, the Army is sure to get it, making it the last mutated ant taken down.
A mutation of a colony of ants was caused by lingering radiation from the very first atomic bomb test at White Sands in 1945...And that discovery wasn't made until 1954 when a few folks disappeared during the night. Fortunately, this is the only mutated ant left, and it is a worker ant. It is not a queen, thus despite workers being female, it still can not lay eggs. Even it could lay eggs, being it's the only mutated ant left, there are no mutated male drones left to mate with it.
Hopefully, this ant will be discovered and taken down before it kills and eats someone. And personally...I wouldn't want to be the poor unsuspecting soul who is hitchhiking or bicycling along that stretch of Highway 54 while that giant ant is out there.
This was inspired by the 1954 si-fi horror classic, Them.
