Finally finished this! More aviation geekery.

In the spirit of aviation, I'm using the same ridiculous hodgepodge of imperial, metric, and nautical measurements in my comic that are employed in the aviation world. But truthfully, Chucky's society has a completely standardized system of measurements. I'll probably eventually write everything in metric, it being the most logical system. One change I have made, their coordinated world clock is based on Denver, CO time as opposed to Greenwich, UK time. So 2:32pm New England time is 1232 World Time.

And yes, I know I'm cheating in panel 7 by not drawing the control stick in front of Ian. But it would have blocked Chucky scribbling on his knee-board.

Interesting he's writing on a pad. I would have thought they
would have had some kinda of iPAD tech at least. Even if
the don't the aviation geekery is sweet especially since it
segues nicely into a discussion of sex. :D

They do have Ipad type devices. But with scribbling stuff down while flying, the best thing to have is a handy piece of paper and a pen.

Sweet. :)
Also those clouds are the type that hide decapitating tentacle monsters like the ones in "The Trolenberg Terror" :D
Just say'n. ;D

I was thinking those were the clouds from Altitude same concept giant octopus or squid kills people

You should check it out. It's a hoot. It was the first movie MST3K revied when they went to national syndication. It's not TOO bad in it's own right..but it's seriously silly in some spots. If you watch the beginning credits in MST3K the huge eye thing rushing toward you is the terror from the movie. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un84y-zrGNs :D

Fine idea. Building Atomic clocks is the Colorado state sport.

Ok, Hockey and renaming US West to something stupid are the real state sports. We do have some nice Atomic clocks though.

That question in the last panel took me by surprise, given everything that was said before all of that.  I couldn't help but grin.

^_^

Tis another great page, as always!

Two young guys in the cockpit, talk can degenerate to sex fairly quickly.

Ian and Chucky are much more alike than they realize.

Well, that does sound natural. Usually the mention of that number sets all minds towards 'gutter' in real life, so.. I like it XD

Given the whole furry thing, how many different ways could the comic go from here??

My, there's quite a collection of intellectual conversation going on there!

(gets to the last panel) ...Seriously? At a time like this?

Loved the ATIS panel, very informative!  As for something futuristic to write on, nothing beats a pen and a scrap of paper or even the back of your hand, when you're in a hurry!  Like trying to invent ways of writing in space and the Russians just used a pencil!
Ian is a cool instructor, sometimes you get some good ones, Chucky should feel lucky!
Good job, I always like seeing the new pages, thanks!

Chucky

Thanks! Was there really research into how to write in space other than just a paper and pencil? That's pretty funny.
l18492
12 years, 10 months ago
yup, they couldn't really use pens in space because of the ink (it's a liquid, which doesn't collaborate with micro-gravity), I didn't know that the russians invented the pencil, but I did know that such was the tool used in space ^_^
Zonntag
12 years, 10 months ago
Actually, the Fisher Space Pen was not commissioned by NASA, but was adopted by both NASA and the Russian space agency shortly after it hit the market... Russia did not invent the pencil, per se, but they used it and grease pencils on plastic slates, upon which they wrote, as their solution. Both the USA and Russia did this before the space pen came out...  The problem wasn't the ink in the pen, that was ok, it was the graphite dust from the pencil, which is conductive and they were worried about the dust contaminating electronics, also broken pieces of pencil lead floating around and the wood of the pencil body itself could be combustible in a pressurized oxygen environment!!
There is always more to the story than meets the eye!!

We have a flap index- which is basically a measure of just how many degrees of flaps were putting out. It's basically from 0-100 with 0 being the minimum number of degrees for a given flap setting, and 100 being the maximum for that setting. So half flaps can vary from 9-20 degrees. Point being, whenever the calculated flap index is 69, comments are always made, "Before landing checklist,"  -   "Slats extend, Flaps 1/2, Index 69 - Giggitty."
Chucky
12 years, 10 months ago
Heh heh, that would always get a laugh out of me.
TastesLikeGreen

An awful lot of this was just static for me, I hope the comic doesn't go too far into the practical operation of a plane, or I'll just be totally lost. :-B
Chucky
12 years, 10 months ago
Don't worry, I won't get too much into it, or if I do, it won't dominate the comic for that long. But I was hoping to reach a bit of an aviation audience with it.

I'm no plane nut, not enough to know what real planes it might be based on, but I love the ducted-fan rear prop on that. Are you someone I could PM to ID a weird plane I saw once...?
Chucky
12 years, 10 months ago
Please do, I'd love to give it a shot. I've spent my fair amount of time at airports and airshows.
SkyBlueSloth
12 years, 10 months ago
I knew we didn't have an average college teacher in the plane, but asking about a student's sex history in hopes of improving his own tops any college professor I've met. ^^

BTW, could this be foreshadowing?
Chucky
12 years, 10 months ago
None of the flight instructors would really qualify as average college teachers. Ian is 21 and a bran new graduate, so he and Chucky are actually very close in age, relatively speaking.
SkyBlueSloth
12 years, 10 months ago
They also seem pretty compatible in mentality. And by that I mean if they were gay, they might like each other. As I understand it, they aren't, but they might play the same vids, watch same movies etc.
Chucky

Yes, they are very alike.

lolz I laughed a bit at the last pannal. ian"ever done 69 with a gir?" Chucky"No. What's it like?" Ian"I don't know, was hoping you'd tell me" XDXDXD What an interesting topic to disguss during one's training.

Okay.  I have a question about the wind direction.  150 degrees is southeast?  In other words, 0 degrees would be due north.  Correct?
Chucky
5 years, 10 months ago
Yes, but they'll call it 360 instead of zero.
MviluUatusun
5 years, 10 months ago
I had a feeling I got it wrong.  3-6-0 degrees is due north.  So, 150 is south-southeast or thereabout?
Chucky
5 years, 10 months ago
Yes, absolutely, with 180 degrees being due south. Now, to throw a monkey into the wrench. Runways and surface winds are presented in magnetic direction to match the airplane's compass. Winds aloft are presented in true direction to match the Earth's Lat/Long grid.
MviluUatusun
5 years, 10 months ago
Ouch!  No wonder some people never truly learn to fly, although I'm sure you learn to remember that over time and with experience.
