So I've been indulging in some 80s nostalgia, partially as research for Bits&Bobs but also just to relive some missing pieces from my childhood. Recently I've been revisiting disney's Gummi Bears.

This got me thinking about a very cutsie kind of kid show that Kyaw could be a fan of and he could introduce Sven to, something he would never have the guts to watch on his own. Something that would be very 80s-esque, colorful, and geared towards excessive positivity and cheerfulness. The kinda thing that makes a normal boy a little sqweemish. Originally I was just going to have them watching Gummi Bears, but creating my own faux 80s show allows me to keep Bits&Bobs independent of any pre-existing properties while allowing me to tailor it specifically to my needs.

So to that end Ive come up with the "Chummy Bears". A mash up of much of the fluffier side of the 80s including Influences like Gummi Bears, Care Bears, Teddy Ruxpin, My Little Pony, and RainbowBrite, that sort of sickenly sweet high fantasy sorta stuff.

Kyaw naturally loves it to pieces, Sven is confused and a little uncomfortable with it.

Being "Chummy Bears" first and foremost these little guys are very affectionate with each other. Here they are holding hands, Im sure they frequently hug, snuggle, rub noses etc. Basically as much as you could get away with in the 80s without actually turning them gay. Kinda a wink wink nudge nudge sorta thing.

I decided to go with a weather theme with common phrases used for excessively smaltzy things like "rainbows and sunshine/butterflies" as a guide.

On the left we have "Rainbows". Rainbows seem to be a reoccuring motif with these types of shows, so it seems fitting. He is the conductor of the "Rainbow Express". A steampunk inspired flying train that generates the rainbows in the sky (maybe I'll make a drawing of this one day). Hes joined by his close buddy "Sunshine" whose job is to pull the sun. He also has a butterfly theme. He features a solar crown and a royal cloak along with butterfly wings, presumably giving him the ability to fly. Sort of a boys version of My Little Pony, these guys go around spreading positivity, good cheer, and pleasant weather. Perhaps their enemies are storm clouds.

Still a work in progress. Havent decided if its just these two or more, but I like the way this came out. It really feels like something that already existed in the 80s ... but it didnt!
