This is one of the Duck and Cover public service announcement ads that were aired throughout the 1950 during the cold war era.

In Pic #1. Members of the coyote family are watching TV on a rainy August morning in 1960.
When the commercial came on, Jed expressed concern of the possibility of an actual attack someday.
Al assured the family that if such an event were to take place, the small community of Duran, New Mexico where they live would not be a target.
In that pic, Daddy Al is shown on the left, and oldest son Jed is on the right.

There are usually two, nice size, Navajo rugs in the living room.

However, those rugs are presently in the garage waiting to have the dust knocked out of them when the rainy weather has past.

Pic #2, has the commercial without the family conversation.

Pics #3, #4, #5 and #6 have segments of the soundtrack that go with those parts of the commercial.

Pics #7 through #12 are larger images for better viewing.

The link below shows the actual commercial, though there are added scenes in the linked video.

Interesting video.

I had no idea the guy who did the voice for Bert the Turtle was still alive until 2013.

I don't think his voice actor actually was still alive up until 2013 (I think it was just a tongue-in-cheek joke the guy who made this video was doing). Maybe he was; I can't  say for sure.

Paranoia, makes being prepared more complex as you don't think right!

That was a later consciences since those ads aired.

Maybe, but one only knows in hindsight.

I remember seeing that ad during an episode of Quantum Leap.  Sam leaped into the body of a swimming pool contractor in the middle of the Cold War.
I also remember those ear-piercing air raid sirens sounding every day during my childhood.  The elementary school I went to was near one of those sirens, and even they were just being tested, I'd be surprised if you could hear the fighter jets over the noise of those alarms.

In DuBoise, Pennsylvania they'd test the town's air raid once a week back as recent as 1999. I guess they still do.

Sounds like they're still paranoid about enemy forces coming to bomb their town.  They probably don't know that the enemy is executing their attacks in a more subtle way, like through the internet or something.

Or by means of radical groups within the country.

Those sirens though also warn of tornadoes as well.

In that case, we could use those sirens in the Gulf Coast states to warn of approaching hurricanes.

They could...Though they'd sound off for a long time being that the approach of a hurricane is not as sudden as other perils are

That's a good one.  ðŸ˜º

BTW, I remember those Atom Ant cartoons. His battle slogan was, "Up an' at 'em. Atom Ant".

This video was a staple of the "atomic age"

It would be hard even today to find someone who hasn't heard about it.
