These are just some character sketches to practice drawing my new characters and getting a consistent look down. I also tried to practice different poses and emotions. As you can see the characters have changed slightly. I changed both their outfits and look somewhat.

On the top row we have Kyaw Bits the Bunny Rabbit. Kyaw is a sweet and kind boy with narry a mean bone in his body. He's shy but he also is very open with his feelings and not very good at filtering himself. On the left we have a basic pose showing the characters standard outfit and fur pattern. Kyaw features alternating patches of grey and white fur. I gave him overalls instead of the t-shirt and jeans to give him a cuter appearance and also to contrast more with Sven. In the middle we have Kyaw showing off in a dress. His mom is taking pictures and he's posing for her. His mother is supportive of his senitive nature and encourages him to always be himself. He takes ballet classes and has even gotten special permission to wear a dress in class. Lastly on the right we have Kyaws other big hobby, video gaming. He is concentrating and trying to get a new high score in tetris. You might notice the old school controller. That's because I'm setting the story in the 1980's so this is still the 8bit era of gaming.

On the bottom row we have Sven Bobs the Kangaroo. Sven is a more rugged type of boy who enjoys sports, especially baseball. He is by no means unfriendly, in fact he is rather socially adept easily making friends and not afraid to introduce himself to new people, at least when it comes to other boys. Girls on the other hand he has a hard time talking to as he finds himself flustered by how pretty he finds them. On the left we have Sven smirking, feeling confident. His standard outfit includes a backwards baseball cap, a jersey with the number '7', and some freyed jean shorts. In this picture he is also sporting a baseball and mitt. Sven has dark highlights on the tips of his ears and tail. Sven has tear lines and dark lower lids adding to his sporty appearance. In the middle we have Sven jumping for joy probably hitting a home run. This was to capture the emotion of joy. As you can see Sven does have a playful side. Lastly on the right we have Sven sobbing privately because his feelings were hurt. Either a girl he liked didnt like him back or his team lost, or some boys teased him. Sven has an emotional side but he doesnt like to show it. Although he mostly gets along with other boys he does sometimes feel a bit misunderstood. Perhaps he has a little difficultly reading other people, perhaps he comes across as more abrassive than he really is.

These characters are being developed for a storyline I'm planning. I'm going to be calling the series Bits&Bobs. Stay tuned ...

Love gaming Kyaw and jumping Sven ^^
Those character are great, both physically and behavior wise. I like both Kyaw openness and Sven more boyish attitude XP

Yeah Kyaw is super cute, and Sven is really hot. I could understand why Kyaw falls in love with him, and I could understand why Sven, despite it not making any sense to him, might be drawn to Kyaw.

Most of my "pairings" operate on this principle, however there are notable exceptions. Petroshka has at least one partner that operates on the principle of similarity instead, and even though they get on each others nerves they form a very close bond. Chase and his partner are "soulmates" in the sense that their "souls" are nearly identical, and this forms the basis of their very close relationship.

However I more often use opposites as it creates more interesting narrative interpersonal conflict.

You could describe these two relationship styles as heterogeneous (when opposites attract) and homogeneous (when like attract). Heterosexuality could be said to be inherently heterogeneous in that it involves attraction to different anatomy, whereas homosexuality is inherently homogeneous as it involves attraction to similar anatomy. However other aspects of the relationship can be hetero or homo geneous regardless of the sexuality involved. So most of my character relationships are heterogeneous homosexual relations.

And just to introduce one more term, most of these relationships are also "heterogenit". This means they involve relationships between different species. Rabbit+Roo, Chipmunk+Rabbit, Cat+Mouse etc. Only a few are homogenit, such as lowell&happy (squirrel+squirrel), Grace&Martin (chipmunk+chipmunk), and Petroshka has one same species relationship planned (rabbit+rabbit).

Its interesting to note the various dimensions along which attraction can happen due to similarities and due to differences. In real life I think you will find that both play a part. We are fascinated by those different than us but also seek comfort in those similar and either can be used as a basis of a relationship. Neither approach is necessarily better than the other and both can lead to conflicts/problems. Anyway, those are some of my thoughts on the issue.
