Normally cheerful Meeks sheds genuine tears for patriot day. I tried to make Meeks as intensely sad as he is normally happy, while still trying to maintain a consistent look for the character.

Patriot day is a relatively new commoration. It is in honor of those that died in the events of 9-11, the terrorist attack on the twin towers and other targets on September 11th, 2001. This is an anachronistic image because Meeks lives in the 1940s so this is well after his "time". I don't know if he lost anyone, but even if he didn't he would cry regardless. He is extremely patriotic and sentimental as well. He would simply cry for the lives lost and the fact that furmerica, his own country to which he is extremely loyal, was attacked. I chose Meeks because his character fits a patriotic day. Maybe I'll draw Meeks again for 4th of July. Then he can have something to be Jovial about.
