Aiden Acorn The Medical Squirrel
(1) pencil sketch of husky, caribou, and mouse (60 min)

The husky in the picture is Victor Volkenstein, called "Volk" for short. The caribou behind him is named Oliver Olenoakey, or "Olen" for short. These two train and compete together and they often work in tandem when making fun of other recruits.  Volk is more idealistic about the marines and while he is mean and judgemental he is less malevolent and sees it more as toughening others up. Olen is less idealistic and sees it more as just a competition. He is also more sadistic in how he treats recruits he views as inferior. Meeks has been thrown in to give a sense of the relative scale of these characters. Both Volk and Olen are just a little less than twice as tall as Meeks. Volk treats Meeks more protectively but Olen finds his presense more annoying and unwanted. Meeks for his part is trying his best to live up to his two "friends" high standard. He idolizes them and thinks of them as role models of marine life, especially Volk. Currently though Meeks is struggling to even lift one dumbell with his whole body while they both carry one on each hand. Meeks is determined to push himself to his limits though and has managed to lift it slightly off the ground. All characters are original and part of the Petroshka&Co Series.

What i like the most on this drawing is that you only see the 2 big ones at first. Then you scroll down and *gasp* there is Meeks down there ! XP

I could have been mean and ask for them to lift a dumbell as heavy for them than it is heavy for Meeks....but i'm sure they would be able to do so XD

I doubt that they'd like that sort of comment, but to show you what "men" they are, they most likely would try and struggle with something really heavy to "push their limits". Still I'd be careful saying anything to insulting to these two. They both are very much believers in conventional masculinity. They are practically contractually obligated to let no slight go unpunished. This is why they can't stand someone like Petroshka over Meeks. Meeks may be a wimp, but he doesn't invalidate their values because he wants to be strong just like them. Petroshka on the other hand would probably stand their sassing the 3 of them telling them how stupid they are being wasting all that energy, when the ships artillary is going to be doing all the real work anyway. Something like "you fool's do realize you ain't gonna be sinking any battleships any time soon with all them muscules right?". He has a point ... which is exactly why Volk and Olen would want to pummel him in that moment, even though they probably will just insult his manhood instead and not actually do anything violent. Petroshka is the sort though to always have a snappy come back ... you can guess that after a while a punch in the face seems like the only sensible thing to do :p

This picture was created to introduce these characters, but also give a sense of size comparison. Sizes can vary wildly in Petroshka's continuities. This is less so in my other works, although there are less large species in those (maybe they exist but just aren't as part of the story as much). "small animals", such as rabbit, raccoons, and mice, will generally be made around the same size, where as large animals, like caribou, wolves, and bears will be about twice that size. This is regardless of the actual differences in dimensions in real life. I am only following the size differences in a loose sense.

Petroshka is an engineer by the way, not a "soldier". He's not actually part of the "landing crew" (this is the part of the crew that does actual combat on land). Technically there are 4 categories on board. There is the command structure, the ships staff (which includes engineers, chef's, medical workers, maintence, etc.), the landing crew (which would include Meeks), and the pilots. In terms of respect I'd say its probably command structure, followed by the pilots (who do most of the actual fighting at sea), followed by the landing crew and those manning the ships artillery, and than the staff. Obviously staff often resent this. Even though they don't fight they still see their respective roles as important. Petroshka is happy to not have to deal with combat and enjoys exercising his expertise on checking the ship and doing airplane repairs. But due to his haughty I-am-more-intelligent-than-you attitude along with the sense that he's not actually risking his life (even though he'd go down with the ship just like anyone else), he generally gets looked down on. Doesn't help that he is a scrawny and effeminate fellow despite the deep voice and brusque manner.

I will never understand why "staff" isn't valued more, especially in this context. They are almost the only things that stand between you and death after your own skills. Especially doctor and engineer. If one isn't here to do it's job, you are dead O_o

Also, i wouldn't say it to their face of course, i value my well being and life...most of the time ^^

Is this sort of discrimination common on actual battleships? I put it there more for story reasons to add tension between the different classes of people on the ship. I did a little research but I didn't encounter this specifically, but it seems like it would be a thing considering the hypermasculine atmosphere of a naval ship.

I don't really know for real situation, but it's actually seems plausible to me. It wouldn't surprise me if it would be true ^^'

But i also include the story of book i have read, anime i have looked at and game i have played. The "your only purpose is to be useful to me" is quite present sometimes.

Last example i have being "redo of a healer" first episode but beware...it is quite hardcore...^^'
