Meeks sheds tears for Patriot Day
Ace The Fennec at the ready
(1) Marker only (40 min)
(2) Inked and cleaned (45 min)
(3) pencil sketch of Meeks the Mouse (male) on the accordion (30 min)

This is Meeks version 2.0. I wasnt quite satisfied with the feeling of the first version and wanted something that would fit better with Petroshka's art style. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. His face is rounder and I added some new details. A bell around the neck, a small ear ring, and a pony tail.

Meeks' real name is Simon Squeaks, hence the SS on his shirt. Almost everyone calls him by his nickname on the USS Furtannia including the commanding officers. Petroshka sometimes calls him "half-pint" or "pipsqueak" when talking down to him.

Here Meeks is merry making with his favorite accordion. Although his enthusiasm is misunderstood his antics are regarded as entertaining so the crew has decided to join Meeks in hooping and hollering. Only Petroshka seems to regard the scene with disdain and storms off to his cabin. Secretly though he wishes he could join Meeks with his own accordion and show off his skills, but he refuses to even contemplate such a thing with the other crew around. He doesnt want to share in Meeks general ridicule even if Meeks himself is still having a good time none the less.

Oh, this version of Meeks really looks great, but i like the old one too ^^

He surely look less mischievous and more lively. Mmm i think the tail is shorter too, isn't it ? I like the "scarf" on it, is it a decoration or did he got hurt here ? O_o

I commonly like to tie things or add "trinkets" to mouse tails. I guess I find them too plain without them. I didn't give it much thought. Since this is meeks, it is quite possible it's an intentional decoration, same as the bell around his neck and the earring. Does that make him a little "gay"? Sure, But he would be too naive to see it that way, he would just say he likes it.

(This isn't a comment on his sexual orientation by the way, that's why I put quotes. It's a comment on how it is perceived in the culture of the time, which is 1940s furmerica)

You might notice, if you look even more carefully, that he has a little kink at the end of his tail. This is an actual injury. It's based on a similar kink my mouse Misker had while he was alive.

A kink ? Like the tip of the tail not following the "S" shape the tails describe but going suddendly up ?

Also i just though about this but damn, he have some quite long whisker ^^

Misker sounds like a nice name, is it a word play between mister and whisker or does it have another meaning ? OwO

A kink is a somewhat common thing with mice where an injury never quite heals and there is a permanent and sudden bend in their tail. My current mouse has no kinks.

Mister + Whisker is a cute guess but it actually comes from the word "miscreant", which means trouble maker or law breaker. I was trying to think of a weird name based on a common relevant word and miscreant seems to fit the mouse personality. They live by their wits and don't really follow rules (they will find whatever way they can into your house and steal your food if they can, not that I mind). I shortened Miscreant to "Misc" which I thought sounded really cool and unusual as a name, so I went with it. I called him Misc (usually spelled and pronounced Misk) in the beginning but I realized it would be a tricky name for some people. So I started calling him "Misker" instead. My daughter insisted I wasn't allowed to change his name and it should stay Misk, but she eventually got used to Misker. Technically Misk is his actual name, and I'd still call him that from time to time, and Misker was more like a "pet name".

One thing I like about naming pets is there are no rules. You get to make up your own rules. You can name your dog donut if you want and no one will think it strange, but name your child that ... :p

I follow the same logic for my furry characters. They don't necessarily have to have human names. So I'm fine naming someone "Meeks/Feliz" or giving someone "Bits/Carrots/Purrs/jackrabbit" as last names etc. I've also got a character I'm planning on naming "Catch the Mouse" ^_^

It's just more fun that way. As for Petroshka his full name is "Petroshka Leningrad" but he also goes by the moniker "Peter The Zombit" later on.

"Catch the Mouse" ....hum....by the name i would say either a mouse....or a cat. Both would be funny XD

Yeah, names rules are weird by themselves. It wouldn't be bad to call a kid "Pierre" which basically means "Rock" in french but if you indeed try Carrots it won't do...especially if the kid have red hair (which i think look awesome by the way) XD

But more seriously, i have seen sometimes TV Show where they talk about names some parent have tried to name their child and it was....scary ^^'

Hum...Zombit for zombie and rabbit ? Or i lose again ? XP

Nah, this time you got it. Its Zombie + rabbit. He got that nickname due to his tendency to frequently get into life and death situations and somehow make it out alive. The mofia has probably wanted him dead at least once (for example), but hes always managed to slip by through some combination of his wits, his enemies foul ups, or sometimes just dumb luck (hed probably attribute the last one to a guardian angel "that just wants to keep me outta heaven so they can continue to watch me suffer in this life" ... always putting a negative spin on anything ^_^). Its like he "comes back to life from the grave" though not literally ... most of the time ... :p

I would say that at this point it is a guardian demon, not angel XP

While I agree with you, Petroshka would probably prefer using Guardian Angel because it's more ironic. We expect demons to be cruel. That's why his comment is funny. He basically assumes even heaven is corrupt ... :p

no one have come back to tell us it wasn't, so maybe it is ! XP
Heaven if i would prefer it is no ^^
