Demordicai Diamonds Character Art

Another character that will later appear my comic Demordicai Diamonds. This is the second time I've drawn him and I'm a lot more happy with this new 2012 version compared to my previous attempt.

Joseph, an only child, was born and raised on a small farm on the outskirts of Aspen Village and has a knack for raising crops and livestock. Most of his childhood years consisted of helping his parents tend to the livestock and crops and doing household chores.

From time to time, Joseph and his family would go into town to sell their goods, mingle with the townsfolk, and take a break from the toil of farm work. They often kept to themselves while not in town and enjoyed the peace and quiet their farm provided.

Unfortunately, one of the trips into Aspen Village proved disastrous when it coincided with a bandit raid that left most of the adult population dead. Joseph survived but his parents did not. He was still young at the time and was then lived inside Aspen Village.

When Joseph reached 16, he returned home to his family's former farm to start it up again and make a living for himself by himself. Three years would go by and Joseph found it difficult to run the farm by himself and had trouble making ends meet.

At age 19, Joseph went into Aspen Village looking for work and tried to get a job with the town guard headed by an ikeeri named Monty. Joseph didn't do very well and was more of a laughing stock in the ranks but it wasn't until he accidentally injured himself during a training session that he realized that he wasn't good guard material.

Afterwards, the captain dismissed Josephs from any further training and employment, suggesting more womanly occupations or to go back to and calling Josephs pretty much useless. By chance, the local tavernkeeper and fiance to the captain, Juna, was on her way to visit Captain Monty and overheard everything. She then decided to hire Joseph on to help her run the tavern (and partially to get on her fiance's nerves).

Joseph was originally working the bar and basement brewing and learned much about beverages from Juna. Due to Joseph's shy and easily intimidated personality, especially around females, he would end up getting "persuaded" into giving free drinks and discounts to the female customers and had a very difficult time saying no.

Juna eventually caught on that she was losing money and moved Joesph into the back and have him take care of dishes and other kitchen duties. Away from direct interaction with the customers, Joseph worked found his to be better in some respects despite being more demanding.

Joseph is very personal and quiet and doesn't talk much but a hard worker. He's not a mute, just very shy and nervous. He prefers to keep to himself and often will crack under pressure. His more wild and ambitious side only comes out in private when he thinks he is out of sight from others.

Joseph has no fear of a shovel or a dirty toilet but can't fight worth a damn. His very light build and gentle, conflict-avoiding nature mark him as a pacifist and definitely not town guard material. All Joseph really wants out of life is food, family, and friends but finds it very difficult to open up and overcome his shyness.
