Al and Marge realized they would need to eventually enroll Clarence in school, which would be where their biological cubs, Jed, Rex and Donna, attend at the school campus in Estancia so he can continue getting an education...In addition to concerns of Clarence continuing his education, Al and Marge also didn't want to eventually have a truant situation on their paws either over a cub not attending school. However, Clarence would not yet be ready to attend school that week. There was the matter of, like all other cubs attending school, getting vaccinated against certain diseases, including for distemper being that coyotes are canines, and including to guard against polio which had not at that day and time been eradicated from the U.S. Today, Thursday, February 11th, 1960, at 11:00 am is the time set for the appointment with Doctor Ruben Ocelot in Vaughn for Clarence to get the vaccines needed to attend school. That day is also a day that Al was scheduled to report to the lab to work on a project in which he had the most expertise in...However, Al had to phone in to make arrangements to have the morning off so he can get Clarence to his doctor's appointment to get his vaccines for school. Mama Marge would be without the car, so she would stay at home so she can be there when Rex, Jed and Donna get off the school bus at the end of the school day, being that Al will still be at work. It was already discussed that after the doctor's appointment, Clarence would be with Al at the lab until Al got off from work...Hence why there was the discussion the day before about getting a 2nd car. As usual, Jed, Rex and Donna waited at the crack of dawn with the other neighbor cubs for the school bus to arrive. Like all the other mornings that week, that Thursday morning was no exception. It too was also a very cold morning down to a chilling 19 degrees F...And there had been some snow, ice pellets and fog. Before long, the southbound Southern Pacific freight train came through Duran right on schedule...That let the cubs know it wouldn't be long before the school bus arrives where once aboard it would be warm...And sure enough, Bus #17 approached from Highway 54, then from across the railroad crossing, after it made a stop as required before proceeding across the tracks. At the bus stop, the cubs stepped aboard the bus driven by a happy-go-lucky mink, and it was off to school. It was at 10:00 am, Al left with Clarence for the doctor's appointment in Vaughn. Al and Marge huged and kissed as they always do before Al heads off for work, then it was off to get Clarence his vaccines...Of course by then, Clarence was already out of the habit of looking for a seat belt. Clarence was a little nervous about 'doctors and needles', however, as Al pulled northbound from Route 3 onto Highway 54, he assured Clarence everything will be alright. Al and Clarence had been speeding along until Al slowed that Chrysler 300 down as they were passing by the time machine landing site. "What is it, Dad?", Clarence asked. "I just wanted to see if anyone who didn't belong there was messing around with that time machine", Al replied as he sped the car back up. On that portion of Highway 54, Al noticed there hadn't been any ice formation on the road, and the fog wasn't bad enough to hamper visibility...So Al asked Clarence, "While we're on some open highway with no other cars in sight, do you want to see what this car can really do?". In a nervous, but fun anticipating reply, Clarence said, "Yea, Dad! I would". With that said, Al told Clarence, "Here we go!" as he punched the accelerator to the floor, opening the two, cross ram manifold, oversize, four barrel carburetors, as the nearly 400 horse power Chrysler instantly zoomed up to speeds well over 100 mph, and quickly getting up to 140 mph. "WOW, DAD! This car is so cool!", Clarence exclaimed as roadside objects seemed to race into view then turn into a blur as the car passed by them, and the broken line on highway 54 looking like dots flicking by. They did go through some very light snow fall that was not sticking to the road...The snowflakes seemed to race at the windshield as though they were tiny white bullets. Of course, the ride was not that feeling of 'riding on air' like most anthro-animals associate with high speeds. The car being a high performance Chrysler 300, was designed for road feel and handling, and not for that 'smooth, marshmallow, baby buggy ride'. At 140 mph, the high rpm hum of the Chrysler 300's motor, and the feel of high flying down the highway, the high speed was a rush of thrill to Clarence...and to Al as well...seeming like it was more fun than being on a roller coaster ride. It wasn't long before the town of Vaughn was in sight, in which Al then slowed the car down to 70 mph...which seemed as a slow crawl compared to the speed they've just slowed down from. "Wow, Dad. That was fun!", Clarence said. "Can we do that again sometime?!". "We'll see", Al replied. As Al and Clarence approached Vaughn, in which Al had slowed the car down to 45 mph, Clarence looked off to the right at an empty stretch of land and sighed. "What is it, Son?", Al asked Clarence. Clarence replied, "In 2018, that's where the doublewide should be that my original family lives in". "So that's the geographic location you're from", Al acknowledged, then asked, "By the way, what is a doublewide?". Clarence explained to Al it was two house trailer units that are put together to make a house. "Interesting concept", Al replied as he slowed down to 30 mph because they were now in town. Another thing Clarence noticed in his hometown of Vaughn, was that there was no railroad grade flyover, like the one he had known where in 2018, the BNSF railroad bridges over the Union Pacific railroad...It was just a simple cross junction where, what was in 1960, the Santa Fe Railroad and Southern Pacific cross each other...Al was very impressed when Clarence had mentioned that to him. "I bet that's going to be a monumental project when it will get built", Al said. "It was...or I mean, it will be", Clarence replied. As Clarence also noticed the main street through Vaughn was a two lane street, he mentioned to Daddy Al, "This street will be four lanes by 2018" "Who would have ever thought", Al replied. Within a few moments, Al and Clarence already arrived at Doctor Ruben Ocelot's office. Upon entry into the building, that familiar smell of a doctor's office was already a bit uncomfortable to Clarence...However, Clarence was assured by Daddy Al and Nurse Rhonda Opossum that everything will be okay. Eventually, Clarence was called to see the doctor. Although it was only going to be a physical exam (doctor feeling Clarence's balls to check if they weren't ascending felt a bit weird), a blood test to check for existing diseases and vaccines, Clarence was scared of needles...Although, Doctor Ocelot did convince Clarence that a vaccine, particularly in the case of polio, a prick with a needle would be better than being crippled up, and possibly if polio was not caught in time, being in an iron lung for the rest of your life, total paralysis, or even death...Thus, Clarence was convinced the needles would be a far better alternative compared to all that stuff Doctor Ocelot had told him about...And although there were 'needles' involved, the polio vaccine was not really a needle injection. It was a needle rub just under the skin in an arm just under the fur, which would leave a spot in the skin for life about the size of a quarter. In fact, Al raised up fur on his left arm to show Clarence where he had received a polio vaccine when he was a cub...So did Doctor Ocelot...Nurse Rhonda Opossum even showed Clarence the spot where she had received a polio vaccine when she was a cub. So, everything went okay, and after everything that needed to be addressed was addressed, Nurse Opossum gave Clarence a lollipop as Al paid the bill for the visit and vaccines, and received papers to present to the school board that Clarence had his required vaccines. After the doctor's appointment, Al headed west on Highway 60 to Encino, where the lab is to report to work. Clarence wanted Daddy Al to race the car up to 140 mph again, but because there were quite a bit of other cars on the road, and the fog was heavier on Highway 60, Al told Clarence that now was not the time for it. It was about noon time when Al and Clarence arrived at the lab, and the other scientists who investigated the landing site of the time machine were delighted to see Clarence again. It was time for lunch break when Al and Clarence arrived. The lab complex had a small cafeteria, and for those who choose to do so, there were places in town to go have lunch...Al chose to have he and Clarence have lunch at the cafeteria provided by Horizon Innovations Laboratories. After lunch, Daddy Al resumed his part in the project he was assigned to, and Clarence was amazed with the things he saw in the lab. Harold Wolf approached Clarence and told him, "You don't go telling your friends about everything you see here...Okay?" As Clarence acknowledged, Daddy Al said to Clarence, "There things here that are government and military classified projects, Son. So let's keep a lid on it". "Okay. I will Dad", Clarence agreed. Woodrow Raccoon was there that day, and reminded Clarence of a saying he had heard from 2018, "Always remember, Clarence. Loose lips sink ships"...Speak about deja-vu. Later later in the afternoon, Woodrow Raccoon, Harold Wolf, Lenard Wolverine and Greg Otter left to go out to the landing site off of Highway 54 to further investigate what can be done to get the time machine operational again in hopes of Clarence being able to be reunited with his original family again...which in this day and time wouldn't happen until 58 years in the future...Doing the math, Clarence wouldn't even be born until January 2010...The time machine itself wouldn't even be built until 1970. In the early evening, the work was done for the day, thus Al Coyote, his adopted son Clarence and Poindexter Fox stayed around the lab and talked for a while. During a conversation, Clarence Coyote mentioned how he had to get vaccines that day and how he doesn't like needles. "I'm sure if you ever get a disease those vaccines protect you from, you would dislike that even more so", Poindexter Fox told Clarence. "That's right", Al added. "And you need those to go to school". Poindexter then added, "And without an education, you might very well be digging ditches or scrubbing toilets all your life...Or would you rather be doing things like what we do here in this lab, and with better pay?" That hit Clarence as though a safe fell on him when he remembered back about his biological parents, Charley and Alice, telling him and his siblings, Jack and Rhonda, (who were not yet born in 1960) almost the same scenario about goofing off in school not getting you an education. Right at sundown, Woodrow Raccoon, Harold Wolf, Lenard Wolverine and Greg Otter returned to the lab from the landing site to put tools up and clock out for the day. "Any progress with the machine?", Poindexter asked. Harold Wolf replied, "We got a better grip on what needs to be done to fix it. But we now know the damage is worse than what we originally thought two days ago". That part of "damage is worse than what we originally thought" didn't sound too reassuring to Clarence, but Al assured him that if the machine can't be fixed, he'll always have a loving family to be a member of. Al and Poindexter also clocked out, and bid good evening to scientists who had just then came on evening shift. Then Al and Clarence headed back home to Duran...but first, stopping at a Tastee-Freeze (the franchise that featured the ice cream characters, Tee & Eef) near Encino to get cones of ice cream for Clarence and himself. It was already dark when Al and Clarence got home, so after the family had supper, everyone set up a chess board in the living room for a few games...Dad, Rex and Donna would be on one team, and Mom, Jed and Clarence would be on the other team...Trouble was, Clarence didn't know the first thing about playing chess. In fact, no one in Clarence's biological family from 2018 knew...or will know 58 years from then...the first inkling of how to play chess. Thus as the family went ahead with the chess games, they taught Clarence how to play chess as they went along. During the chess games, that Seigler oil heater provided warmth for the house. And the radio in the living room played some relaxing songs that everyone enjoyed; The Ames Brothers - You You You; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SGLzMnkbe4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SuB1vvFW3s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVHmW65ICFA The Ames Brothers - Melodie D'Amour; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCWsY7wi_gU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k0pP3XeV7M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGaGKNm2Lf0 The Four Esquires - Love Me Forever; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YxBBFTjbak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJVprKwjw6c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuDVdQilUQg
Later that night, everyone got a shower and it was off to bed. Before bed time though, Al mentioned that he will have to take Clarence to Encino tomorrow to take an aptitude test at the school board to determine what grade he could be placed in being that no prior school records on him even exist...Thus Al also mentioned to Marge that he already had arranged for a 2nd morning off from work in which to get that done, which his boss was understanding of considering that he and Marge had recently adopted Clarence. "This is why we need that 2nd car", Marge reminded Al, which Al did agree. That night the cubs wanted to set up a blanket fort in the living room, using the dining chairs and some blankets, to sleep in for the night. Al and Marge gave the okay, thus the cubs were delighted as they wasted no time getting ready to set the blanket fort up...A stipulation was however, set the fort up away from the oil heater so it doesn't start a fire. As everyone slept through the night, the radio was turned down to low and played...To the cubs, the first song was reminiscent of their blanket fort; The Four Esquires Hideaway; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7Rxk94ypd0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uC0MCAbQFiY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEZiJw4Yv_Q The Ames Brothers Tammy; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jy4A5onlpU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FR5p9a1XVI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyuFltS5zME The Ames Brothers stay; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLs-M8bZo5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmMnWyZkDLc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yge2ypkzPBI
Being this was Clarence's 3rd night in Duran with his adopted family, he, like the other family members, slept through the sounds of that southbound Southern Pacific passenger train that comes through at about 2:07 am; https://youtu.be/uNwAEptoNl0?t=80 And as well, Clarence also slept through the sounds of the 4:14 am northbound freight; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfCSQpCTSqw
The morning of Friday, February 12th was another cold morning, and BRRRR, this morning it was 10 degrees...And like yesterday morning, there were areas that were having snow, ice pellets and fog...However, it was expected to warm up to 42 that day. The cubs were sure happy to see that morning southbound freight train go by, which meant the school bus should be arriving soon where inside it would be nice and warm. Before long, the school bus arrived, and the cubs were off to school in that comfortable warm school bus. Then Al and Marge hugged and kissed before Al left with Clarence to Estancia. This trip was along Route 3 to Route 60. At one point along Route 3, because the bus has to make stops, Al caught up to the school bus. Cubs aboard the bus would wave from the rear windows of the bus as Clarence and Al would wave back from the front seat of the Chrysler. Of course, everywhere the bus stopped, Al would also have to stop. Eventually, when there was a long enough straight away on Route 3, and Stimpson Mink, the bus driver, was sure the fog wasn't obscuring visibility of the oncoming lane, he slid the bus driver's window open, slowed the bus down and motioned Al to pass when it was safe to do so. As Al passed the bus, he tooted the horn as to say "Thank you".
When Al and Clarence arrived at the school board in Estancia, a sweet and lovable female ferret named Connie was assigned to administer a series of tests. Being that Clarence had no school records from the school years '57-'58, '58-'59 and '59-60, he was given an aptitude tests to determine what grade he could be placed in. As far as the school system knew anything about Clarence, no one had any idea who he was before Al and Marge adopted him, or where he came from. When the tests were completed and graded, it was determined that Clarence can be places in the 3rd grade (being able to continue in the grade he was in in 2018)...All be it know though, the score Clarence made on those tests were barely high enough to get him into the 3rd grade...Had he missed by only a few more points on those tests, he would have been placed in 2nd grade...Listening to the advice Clarence was given by his biological parents in 2018 about not clowning around like the others in school did pay off, being that Clarence was able to pass the aptitude tests with a score that did allow him to continue on the 3rd grade level. Had Clarence not listened to his biological parents, Charley and Alice, and had been occupied with causing mischief in school right along with the delinquent cubs in 2018, it would have cost him being able to go to the 3rd grade, as he would have made a test score that would have been low enough to place him in the 1st or 2nd grade in February of 1960.
Once everything was taken care of at the school board, Al had to report to work at the lab...Of course, like yesterday, because the family only had one car, Clarence had to come to work with Daddy Al until the end of the work day. After Al and Clarence arrived home that evening, Marge and the cubs were delighted to find out that Clarence did well enough on the aptitude tests to place him in the 3rd grade which was the right grade to be in for his age. Rex Coyote, being in the 3rd grade, was also happy that Clarence did so well on the tests, because that meant Clarence and Rex will be in the same class together. Also...One thing was always made perfectly crystal clear to the cubs by Al and Marge...Clarence and the other cubs were NEVER to mention anything to their classmates or teacher about a time machine and 2018...including to NEVER EVER bring that cellphone, laptop and drawing tablet to school, or even make any mention about those electronic devices. The rest of the evening, before sundown, Clarence, Jed, Rex and Donna played with the other neighbor cubs. Clarence was surprised to see that toys such as tricycles, bicycles, wagons, push scooters and petal cars were made of tough, durable metal, compared to the tin like and plastic versions of those toys he had always known. One of the neighbor cubs who was out playing that evening was a 7 year old female from a neighboring coyote family, Cheryl Coyote...As the cubs were playing Cheryl eventually took a special liking to Clarence, which in turn, Clarence did feel a fondness toward her as well. As it got dark, it was eventually time for the cubs to go to their respective homes where their parents would have supper ready, then maybe watch some cartoons (on black and white TV of course), then later get a shower and get ready for bed.
Tomorrow was going to be a Saturday...Which meant Al has that day off from work, and the cubs have off from school. It would be a day the family could go out together for some leisure and enjoyment.

I had thought of having it so Clarence was wearing a Bruno Mars sweat shirt, and a pair of those pants that sit low on the hips, when he made the trip to 1960. Marge advises Clarence, "You need to pull your pants up some". Rex asks, "Who on Earth is Bruno Mars?". Jed adds, "Never heard of him". Clarence not yet realizing he traveled back in time, replies, "You never heard of Bruno Mars?".
