Perhaps it was for the better; when he claims that he's already captured 8 shinies on his profile, and is currently working on capturing him... the anger fit (instead of calmly explaining himself) makes perfect sense in that he's angry that he failed, yet at the same time putting up a show and guilt-tripping him.
Or it could be genuine, who knows, only Mindes I guess...

He really flew off the handle over being questioned at all, when the concerns being brought up were fair and justified. And he didn't even give Ambus a real chance to speak his own mind, he left based on what he assumed he was thinking.
Genuine concern for the safety and well-being of others doesn't make it all about "kinkshaming" or imposing some subjective morality. And Mindes can't seem to understand the concept of concern beyond how it affects oneself. He seems convinced that Ambus is only bothered because it might happen to himself, which is pretty telling.
If anything, Mindes was equally guilty of imposing his own amoral viewpoint onto the relationship by breaking down the moment anything came into conflict with his own perspective. He didn't make any attempt to work through it, he just left the instant he was challenged on something.
They never saw each other again? I mean, it's probably for the best in some ways. This was too volatile. But it seems so mundane and anticlimactic. That's probably intentional but it's so sudden. Is that it then? I know life doesn't always wrap itself up in a neat little package, but there are so many unanswered questions and loose ends to resolve...

It doesn't end till the fat lady sings. It was intentional to be mundane, as some people are very divisive on things like this. If you don't support them, they will block you, maybe ruin your reputation, etc. They do not settle it like rational people because it is their way or the highway.

Not altogether unexpected, but considering the parties involved this breakup just seems to be incredibly clean. Hell, the best scenario at this point is that it's just over and neither one tries to pursue it.
Mindes seems to have walked away from this believing he was the "victim" here, and he's a volatile enough person that that could be troublesome down the road, to put it lightly. This being "the last time he ever heard from him" could be sort of a bittersweet relief. Unless we get an "...until today" moment or something.
I worry for Ambus, because this may have reaffirmed and reinforced his fear that there's no one for him and he's condemned to be alone.
I worry for Mindes, because it genuinely seems he's not willfully hurtful and I'd hope he can grow and improve as a person with time and help.
But I also worry about his next object of obsession...his next "harvest" if that was merely his term for sexual conquest, which is still not entirely clear.
And I worry about all the victims of "his circle" and its evil, past, present, and future.
You've done an amazing job to have gotten me so invested in this whole thing, while keeping me so simultaneously intrigued and uncomfortable. Keep up the great work.

Well i do applaud your writing if anything. You created a genuinely good representation of both parties with actual arguments that can be related to. Mindes is kinda right. He has to deal with prejudice. He didnt do anything. He didnt attempt anything. Yet its assumed that he would.

Er, you realize that Mindes is being depicted here as a hypocrite with a flimsy argument who probably needs professional therapy for his mental issues, right? <_<;

Its really really really just a matter of perspective. We always ignore when its convenient for us. When was the last time you gave a damn about the child workers in some china sweat shop who constructed you half your electronics?

How are they not? Because one is convenient and the other is not? You can list any number of things your average human being does not care from the suffering of animals to what companies like coca cola do in other regions of the world, killing off villages via water polution, where does the gas in your car come from and so on and so forth endlessly.
Saying that one is amoral and the other is somehow different, just goes to show my point....

if nobody bought chinese goods then chinese workers would be out of a job with no income. that is not even remotely comparable to funding creators of torture/snuff porn

that is not even remotely comparable to funding creators of torture/snuff porn
True. Its not the same. On one hand you fund creators of torture/snuff porn (even though it could be role play, but w/e), on the other hand you fund a group of corrupt individuals and politicians to keep factories supplied with the modern day equivalent of slaves, paying them nothing while they pocket billions.
Two completely different things... i mean one is a question of supply and demand and the other is a question of supply and... demand... oh... oh wait...

Several of those in the snuff site were said to be on missing persons lists. Surely there's an alternate site with better ethics. And to respond to your question, the last time I worried about people across the world was when I woke up this morning. It's everyday.

So now Ambus gets captured by those jerks and Mindes will have to make up his mind and save him once he sees his ex-boyfriend all covered in Muk against his will on the Dark Zone site? I would be totally into that!~ :D

I was gonna say, just waiting for Ambus' black bag moment... even if Mindes doesn't do it himself, he's probably given away enough for more aggressive shiny-hunters to track him down.
(OK, so Mindes probably just moves on and maybe we hear about what happens, but we can dream!)

Aww man, the last time? I really hope the next page starts with "Until next week/month/year when..." It's really sad to think those two are just going part ways like that, but something tells me it's not over yet. In any case, major kudos for writing such a philosophically complicated and thought provoking story! I've never seen a comments section on InkBunny blow up with the amount of philosophy discussion that the last few pages of this story have had. You're one heck of a story teller (and a pretty amazing artist) Grim!

Sometimes relationships might seem nice on the outside, but can be quickly discovered to be toxic and painful on the inside once the sweet outer shell is broken through and the disturbing truth beneath is revealed. This is just one of the lighter times this happens to many people. Honestly, Ambus got off easy.
There are many out there who would use you for their own benefit, as a trophy or as a tool or sex slave. People get the short straws often, but some are cut shorter than the rest.

Awrr, it has to end so soon? I suppose this outcome makes the most sense with how people function, and I appreciate it being a bit realistic, even when I wanted to see the conflict drag out much longer and somehow result in Midnes gaining understanding of what he is and what he is/may be doing wrong >v<
