I've been hearing more and more people getting locked out because of e-mail addresses no longer being used or deactivated.

Me as well.

FA fucked up, and I'm locked out of 100+ artists I follow and they probably scrambling to the site they think is a good alternative. So it's going to breakup their fanbases by a large margin.

Try looking for them at Furry Network. :)
Lots of FA users **mine included** had been migrated to that place for awhile now.

'FA fucked up' - How many times have we heard that line before? XD

This time it is really screwed, as you say, how many artists or others that had accounts there for the longest time and then ended up getting rid of their linked e-mail addresses and forgetting to update their FA accounts? I'm glad I left there years ago and came here, but there are still a few artists that I like that are still on FA. I just hope that they are able to get into their accounts.

My lurker account on FA is bugged such that I can't view anything with a rating above 'mature'. So, although I have access to the account, it is effectively useless to me. I no longer trust them passwords, any other sort of security, or even basic programming competency, so I don't have any real care to ask them to fix it.

Besides, their new, supposedly 80% finished, codebase is going to be just as big a train wreck, anyways. Time to let it die. It wants to die... Let it go and be happy looking back on the fun times you had with it~ Carrying on with FA would just lead to frustration.

For me I don't really feel like it was a lost though. I've been well established myself in other places aside FA with other identities. I only kept it for fixing the problem caused during it's previous compromise. Now that's my only real concern about it.

Yeay! I left it 2 years ago mostly because of the mods... but that site has been a sinking ship for years now.

FA will still be up as much as people say its "sinking" because too many artists rely on it.

though FN and IB arent looking so good since theyre both gloating about all the site traffic now. not that id defend FA and its bs but people dont need to add fire to the situation

For one I never say that "sinking ship" is a bad ship. Though you can't either deny that if this keeps up it will definitely going to one day. Just like the Titanic it's a nice ship and everyone loves it but on one wants to be there the moment it hit the iceberg. :)

oh no im not saying that either, just saying the gloating people have been doing isnt helping.

there just isnt any good alternatives for FA. like ive said many times, IB is good for cub artists, SF is good for writers, and FN is still new and has some great features but its pretty dead right now. ive heard weasyl mods are as bad as FA mods apparently. dunno how true that is but ive heard nothing good about weasyl.

theres always tumblr but that place sucks too. so as furries we have limited places to go. especially people like me who have a very small following.

Emails and accounts were all erased too??? Huh, I must have missed that part then. I just thought it was only the passwords that were reset and that nothing else should have changed. Shows what I know. Oh well.

only passwords were reset but everyone was logged out just in case, emails remain. The problem is that people used old, forgotten and/or expired emails which of course causes problems if they can't access the email to change their password(which is actually their own fault, not FA's)

It's FA's fault for the compromise yes, It's user fault for not maintaining emails in the event they needed them again in the future.

Though it is true that part of this incident are indeed our fault. But unlike me who are totally don't care about my account well being there. There are those who really rely on it as a sauce of income, a place they can be themselves, a place to be part of their community, a place they can Trust. For a place as such security are always a number one concern. Even in compromised situation such as this the better site will address a proper measure to counter a possibility or even to relief those who are effected. Unfortunately those aren't the things to be found at FA. And don't tell me that the attacks are still fresh and it's too early to expect a relief. This is not their first time. But unlike now people don't have any alternative back then so people have endure...

Similar problem, cannot remember the email used, thankfully i had linked an active email i use in a journal so i can use that as proof.
It's indeed a bit of a pickle, but i'm sure they'll address this issue and work through it.
It IS a security measure for users after all, it's just sad that they were lacking security in other areas and chose to wait until their security got compromised again before doing anything about it.
PROTIP:
Always try to hack yourself first and find those loopholes, before someone with malicious intent does.

Don't worries my account and identity in another places are far more secure than of what FA does. Now everything was completely isolated from one another. So if one fall the other won't be effected... Its something I learn from my previous compromise.

I've gotten to the point where I just don't care about FA very much anymore.

I can't be assed to change my password again right now. Already did it before the the "read only" downtime. Meh.

idk I think IB is better cause the admins are very nice and its well run, ive been here for a long time but this is what I get from this site anyways. ive been on FA before but I didn't like it much. IB is what I call my home and I met a lot of nice artists here and of course the nice mods and friendly Admins to ^^

It kind of sucks that FA is tanking harder than usual but hopefully they gut the place and start completely over. New coders, new site owner. Till then I'm sticking with IB and dA.

It feels weird hearing about everyone having to change or abandon email accounts while i've had my main one for 12 years now, maybe I've been lucky XD

That being said, I can't say I blame anyone not wanting to go through the trouble of setting everything up again, specially not after an attack of this magnitude
