IB needs donations! The little dog is begging $.$,

Hi everyone

Thankfully we don't have to ask for donations very often, but it's time to ask again! Inkbunny relies on the support of the community to keep paying for the ongoing operating costs of our rapidly growing site.

We have the quarterly site hosting fees due at the end of the month and we need to raise a few hundred bucks to cover them.

If you'd like to help out, please send us a Support Ticket and we can provide the various payment options we accept!

We give out neat little sponsor badges that display next to your user icon for any donor that wants one. You can see what they look like by clicking any member icon on our Donations page. Icons last three months once you donate (and anyone that donates $100 or more gets a star for 6 months).

Inkbunny relies on donations to cover costs of hosting our main server, leasing the hardware, our bandwidth usage, our onsite backup server, our offsite backups and our software development repository. All the site development, administration and moderation is done by volunteers for free.

Thanks very much!

I sent you a business idea to your pm.  If you find the time please read it.  People will be a lot more eager to donate in my opinion, if that idea takes off.  The beginning of the subject says: "Business Idea!"

If you've seen it already, check the newest one, cause it's been changed some to be even more effective.

If it wasn't for the no human yiff rule a lot more people would be able to upload their work and donate to IB's upkeep.
InfamousMustelid
11 years, 10 months ago
and if it wasn't for No Cub and Pokemon yiff  in FA a lot more people woudl like that site too still :P

Not me, I had more than enough of Neer's lies and broken promises.
You couldn't pay me to submit my work to FA, a lot of the furs on Sofurry feel the same way.

At least Starling keeps his word.

Indeed

I believe the 'no human yiff' is because of laws in place that would get Starling in a lot of trouble. Beyond that, IB has tried to maintain that it's a furry focused art community, originally banning all human art but made an exception because users wanted it so bad. So they do listen to what their userbase wants, but still must operate within the confines of the law (of no less than 2 countries, btw).

I thought Starly was Australian, but I must be wrong since there's no laws in Australia against such things.

Except underage cartoon humans are technically illegal, though it's not been enforced yet.

I think it may be more to do with the laws the server is located, which is in Holland, or somewhere in Europe. But it's been a while since it was something we talked about but that apparently was the snag.
Kronj

Oh, maybe. I am curious as to whether there was a solid reason like that.

I'm not Inkbunny staff, but as I understand it, no-human-porn is one of the conditions of Inkbunny's hosting. They're fine with all sorts of crazy smut, cubs, rape, toothpaste monster cockvore, whatever, but depictions of human sex is where legal boundaries start getting mentioned, and that's something the hosting company is not going to put up with, since it threatens their entire business.
Kronj
11 years, 10 months ago
That would be a reasonable explanation, but in November I contacted the site via email to discuss the rules and Starling's reply was that he was worried about laws in his own country.

+1, would donate $100+ if this rule weren't in place.

Since IB relies on donations, I think having a financial summary page that shows the amount of donations received and the current quarter's hosting fees would be useful.

Also, some sort of automatic periodic donation would be good too (like the "sustaining memberships" that many non-profits in the US offer). Not sure which payment provider would work for that though; I know Paypal offers recurring payments, but I'm pretty sure they don't like websites that have porn. Perhaps something as simple as an email reminder to those who want a reminder would be sufficient. E.g., "Hi, it's been 3 months since you last donated to IB. If you'd like to donate again, here are the instructions: ..."

On-site AND off-site backups? Wow, you're more managed than FA. *cough*. However, there's not much I can do other than spread the word.

They accept various payment methods other than Paypal - but yep, the "no money" thing will be a stopper.
Catwheezle
11 years, 10 months ago
Well, looking into it, various payments = BitCoin. Which can be bought and traded by most methods, but is kinda indirect.

I'd love to see a special page where users could go when bored that would be full of advertisements.  The adverts would not have to be related to furry or any specific content, so long as no popup crap, and would only be displayed on a page that a user chooses to click on or not.

There would be no benefit to the user other than supporting the website with advertising hits and there would be no compulsion to go there for anything.  If they never wanted to see the ads, they simply didn't click on that link to take them there.  You could even make an "are you sure?" page in case of accidental clicking.  Who knows how it would or wouldn't do. At the very least, it could get a few "I can't afford to donate, so I'll click it once" hits.

I personally prefer advertising that is specifically of interest to Inkbunny users, especially furry-related, and more especially BY members of Inkbunny, because I'd know where the advertising money is coming from, and it would be a way for IBers to support IB financially with their own offerings.

Advertising by furries or for furry type interests is great, there just isn't much of it.  You wouldn't see the non-furry related advertising anywhere else on the site with this idea or at all if you choose not to click on the page to purposefully view it.
dmfalk
11 years, 10 months ago
Actually, there'd be a lot more than you think! Many furries run businesses or advertise their commissions- Look at the ads on FA, for example: The vast majority are by fellow furs, including furcons, commissions, prints, publishing, fursuits, even jewelry. There used to be non-fur ads (World Wildlife Fund, while not furry, is of interest to some furs), but there have been fewer of these lately, there.

Other sites have tried your suggestion, many years ago, but I don't think it worked out much, and I don't think the advertisers got much exposure.

At present, commissionable artists here on IB can only advertise via journal or post commission rates as image submissions...and IB gets none of it.

I sent $8 - feel embarrassed to have so little to give, but I guess every dollar counts :(

how about an inbunny funding project. Artist draw something special for IB, selling it and the money goes straight to IB. Like one page comics. 5-10 artists that come together. and these 5-10 pages get sold for 2 US$ - 5 US$.

I'm liking this idea.
I'm not alone, it seems, having next to no discretionary "spending" moneys.
But we have time and skills we'd be happy to contribute.

You guys need to put your donation link at the top of the page! I didn't even know IB needed money. Finances are a little tight because it's the end of the month, but the fact  I didn't know is a real shame... you guys really should have some text at the top and a counter/chipin type meter for the amount.
