Kids need to be taught nightmares are an unfortunate inherent part which needs to be gone through so it'll stop reoccurring, eventually. It may be the nightmare is postponed, but it still happens, if not when you fall asleep -and- are able to remember your dreams, or maybe it'll occur when you can't remember it.
Nightmares are either the waste of their processing which makes them inconsistent and senseless in nature while visualized, or the visualization of the in-progress processing itself. You -always- dream, you just can't remember them too often, of which any could be a nightmare.
