This is part 2 of the hair/quill design process.
Panel 1: Idea #5 came from looking at hairstyles specific for weddings. I thought it was cute, but this idea didn't last. XD
Panel 2: After countless uses of paper, I needed a moment to stop and rethink the key aspects of Amy. When it came to me, I thought "Why didn't I think of this sooner??" The first is Amy's style revolves around the 1950's and 60's; women of that era had big, luscious hair with lots of personality. It made sense in my mind why the common route of simply extending her echidna-like hair didn't look right with me. Amy's hair needs to have height and volume to reflect her style and her lively personality! Second is taking a thorough look at Sonic's quills. The general idea is creating a feminine version of it, which means a smoother and tamer direction. The sharp ends of it will convey Amy's feisty nature, however pain from it will only occur if she's angry like a rose if mishandled. The final source came from casual walk around my neighborhood. There was a flower shop nearby and saw a lovely pink tulip in a vase and stared at it for a bit. My mind suddenly sees it in different angles, and the upside down one gave me an idea of how to do Amy's quills. I sketched it as soon as I got home and was really happy with the result. The change to the bangs is something that just came to me, so I went with it instead of keeping her official one.
