Emotion scale: sadness.
Out of all, this is certainly the most useful emotion. It's the pain that disciplines. The pain is the sign that something is going wrong and the sadness is the punishment of those who didn't recognize the bad course of things, as it's one of the worst pains.
The sadness comes and sensitizes us. Then, when we are fragile, the guilt, a rigorous feeling, comes and tells us: "Oh, how I wish if you had done this, it and that!", making us see where our mistake is. In the end, we can't improve ourselves if we don't recognize the mistake. The guilt inflicts more pain, more sadness, punishing us when no one else can punish. "You missed! Suffer the excess before repairing what you owe!"
Then, the blanket of self-pity covers us and tells softly: "Calm down, because you suffered enough, poor thing. You are just a little child who is learning how to behave from your father. Poor you! Life is cruel to you!" It makes you realize how small you are, destroying any trace of pride and putting your head back over your shoulders. Those who take pleasure in pride reject self-pity and, often, fall in the same mistake, as not feeling little makes them reject the advice of guilt, thus suffering more sadness.
It's my favorite emotion in general and my music oozes sadness. It opens my eyes to my mistakes and the mistakes of other people. When taken constructively, it enables moral growth.
