RD Labs XVIII - The little nagging demon

Sarah took her position on the grassy knoll. It was getting dark, but she wasn't scared - her military training removed all fear and synonymous words from her vocabulary ages ago. She was sent out to look for new meals to cook up back at the labs and knew they would come out not long after the sun went down. She laid down in as much of a prone position as she could as she looked for a good position to snipe from. The lump in her belly still felt like there was something solid inside, and so she placed her baretta sniper rifle down on it's tripod, and began digging out a slightly larger ditch to accomidate her strange belly lump.

As she returned to her prone position, she surveyed the land around her, looking for any movement. She noticed small things, squirrel-like creatures running about, feral flying beasts overhead, and small fox-like creatures frolicking. All of these were far too small to feed the dozen or so people in the compound. From her vantage point, she could also see most of the abandoned town, which wouldn't have been of interest to her, save for spotting a giant yellow sparking mass emanating from the one of the street edges.

Looking through her scope to get a better view, she focused on the anomally. "Well, there is Silver it looks like, and some. Ooh, that is a large dragon eating her. That one looks perfect for the whole troop for a week!" Sarah paused for a moment then got an evil idea in her head. "Well, I could take out the yellow dragon and we could eat for a week, but then again Silver has been a bitch to me lately. Then again I'm bound by my mercanary contract to not let any of my squad's members be devoured, but on the other hand I could say I was putting Silver out of her misery as those teeth look really sharp."

The eastern dragoness pressed her palm harder against the pistol grip of the large rifle, activating the targeting laser. A moment later it appeared on the side of Tyro's skull. Silver's eyes, which had always been sensitive to IR radiation, noticed the dot and began squirming and thrashing around a bit more, trying to avoid being targeted herself. The larger dragons teeth were grinding into her waist, scraping against her omnicomposite scales. "Let me go you oversized light bulb!" Silver screamed, writhing around more.

Back on the hill, Sarah's conundrum still played out in her head as she gazed upon the two nearly a kilometer away. "Now is my chance" Royal thought in her head from behind a tree. "I'll be able to play a great joke on Silver trying to be a sniper." She didn't notice it was really Sarah laying down, as the rainbow dragoness had nearly every part of her body covered in camoflauge. Ever so carefully the roo snuck up with a big slime bucket, not making so much as a peep. Standing just a couple steps away, she raised the bucket above her head in preparation of surprising whom she thought was her sister.

Her final step just before she started tilting the bucket, Royal tripped a booby trap Sarah had set up earlier. The rope device snagged her ankle and quickly flung the roo into the air. This had a secondary side effect of causing her to exaggerate her movement of tipping the bucket, and causing the slime to spill all over Sarah's back. This snowballed and caused Sarah to ever slightly aim higher than her intended target as she pulled the trigger, sending a very loud sound wave through the air. Silver and Tyro were too far away to hear the sounds of the shot, but the sound of glass exploding caught both of them by surprise. Tyro opened his muzzle in shock, just wide enough for Silver to fall out of his chomping maw. She fell to the ground with a soft thud and stood up before taking off in flight. Luckily she wasn't bleeding, but she would certainly be sore for a while. Tyro perked his head up again as he saw Silver take flight, and began the chase after her.

Sarah closed her eyes, upset that she missed the shot, but was more upset that she had been slimed without warning. She stood up from her position and shouldered her rifle. She brushed the little specks of dirt off of her body and turned around to see who was foolish enough to dump viscous goo on her. To her surprise it was Royal, now dangling upside down by one food. "Out of all of the people on this planet, YOU had to come up and do this to me." Sarah was clearly pissed on the inside, but showed tranqility on the outside. "You know, if I wanted to, I could just leave you dangling there until some other beast came by and tore you to shreds, but I don't think that would be a punishment fitting enough for what you've just done. Don't worry, I have something far worse in mind for you." The eastern took her war knife and sliced the roo down , just missing taking her ankle off by nanometers. "I'll see you back at the labs." She spoke, and calmly walked back towards the compound.
