Chapter 63 - Uplifting Rehabilitation!

Once the gang helped Gerald recover from taking over the lobby work, Chris gathered the reports on Buneary's condition, the nurse going over everything before they bid their farewells to the Pokemon Center once the staff began returning in groups, several Pokemon in tow still sick from the Pokemon cafe. "It was a mess... They were getting sick everywhere..." one of the nurses groaned. "I've never seen such a large amount of stomach content..." one of the male assistants said, urking while covering his mouth. "One thing's for sure, that place is done for..." another nurse added, shaking her head as they took the groaning Pokemon into the back one by one. "Wow... Guess helping out here was the right thing to do for more reasons than one... WE could have gone there too and got sick!" Chris laughed nervously, the Pokemon around him nodding in agreement. "They not sound good at all... Food must have been really terrible..." Gardevoir said, facing different directions as she heard the Pokemon continuing to groan as the staff brought in the last of them. "My word... So many..." Servine added, blinking in surprise. "Even the staff seem rather ill from the experience... I admit I preferred working here over risking my well being winding up at the cafe they went to..." Gerald said, sitting up and rubbing his head. "Do forgive me madam... I was so caught up in the action it seems I let myself fall into your state as well..." he admitted with an embarrassed laugh, holding the nurses hand with a bow causing her to blink at him in surprise and blush. "O... Oh heavens! Please don't do that! It was very sweet of you!" she replied, bowing herself as Chris watched. "Well now... Look who's the ladies man this time..." he said with a chuckle, Gerald shooting up with a flush on his face in response. "Ma... Master Chris!! Really!!" he scowled, crossing his arms as the nurse shot up and fidget shyly with an embarrassed giggle. "Guess we should be careful letting you come into centers... You might have every nurse in the city after you..." he added, laughing as Gerald fumed and the nurse waved her hands nervously. "Goodness me... Please don't make a scene." she told them, the old butler letting out a sigh and shaking his head. "Yeeeaaah... Feels pretty lame when someone turns the table on you, doesn't it? Now it's my turn to poke fun!" Chris grinned, giving Gerald a thumbs up as the Pokemon shook their heads. "...Males..." they said simultaneously, the nurse giggling in response as Chris and Gerald looked at the bunch.

"What? I'm not aloud to have fun?" Chris asked, crossing his arms with a scowl, Gerald rubbing the back of his head embarrassed. "Anyways... We should be on our way then... You did say they're expecting you at the lab, correct?" he asked, Chris shooting up in his chair. "That's right! Ah geez... I didn't even let them know we were here helping out... The professors gonna be in a feisty mood..." he groaned, rubbing his face and shaking his head. "Oh my... They were expecting you...? I'm terribly sorry!!" the nurse said with a bow, Chris blinking and waving his hands in response. "N... No worries!! We were glad to lend a hand!!" he laughed nervously before wheeling towards the exit. "We really do need to hit the road though... Thanks for reminding me Gerald!" he said as Gardevoir stood at the desk with her hand out, having been forgotten as Chris rushed out the exit towards the limo with Buneary in his lap and Servine left behind with Gardevoir as well. "Huh... Well how do you like that..." Servine scowled, crossing her arms as Gardevoir slowly put her hand down. "He just rush out..." she muttered, the nurse and Gerald looking at one another nervously. "D... Do forgive him... He's merely excited is all... It gets to the best of us." he assured them, shaking the nurses hand. "We'll be on our way then. It was a pleasure." he told her with another bow, causing the nurse to blush slightly once again and bow in response with a "thank you" before waving the group off, Gerald taking Gardevoirs arm while letting Servine climb atop his shoulders. As they reached the exit however, Chris suddenly rushed back in with a nervous look, halting the chair in front of them and looking up in surprise. "O... Oh... You're coming... S... Sorry about that!!" he laughed, Servine scowling as Gardevoir reached out and felt her way around his chair, holding the handles with a scowl of her own. "That rude..." she grumbled. Heading out together, the group began climbing into the limo, only to be stopped by a group of nurses rushing out of the center. "P... Please wait!! We've got a surprise for you!!" they shout, causing them to freeze and look behind themselves in surprise, Gardevoir facing different directions confused. Turning around, the nurses raced up and suddenly held out an egg as it moved and cracked, immediately setting it in Chris's lap causing him to freeze up nervously. "Wh... Wha...? H... Hold up!! I don't know what to do!!" he panicked, lifting it up and trying to hand it back only for the nurses to back away as the egg continued cracking apart, Servine going wide eyed and hiding behind his head as Buneary lift her fur up cautiously. "Oh my... I haven't watched a Pokemon hatch in ages... This should be thrilling!" Gerald grinned, stepping closer as Gardevoir tilt her head. "Egg hatch...?" she muttered quietly. After a moment, they started hearing the Pokemon within making sounds, Chris jolting wide eyed in surprise as the egg started falling apart, exposing the top of the Pokemons head. "Wait a sec... I know what it is..." he muttered, looking towards Gardevoir and quickly pulling her over, causing the blind Pokemon to shout in surprise and blush. "Wh... What is it?" she asked as Chris carefully put the egg in her hands. "Hold it carefully now!" he told her as Gardevoir shot up, her eyes going wide as she felt the crumbling egg. Soon, the it began shining brightly, and in a sudden flash of light the group let out an "ooohhhh..." sound, watching the light fade showing the newborn Ralts in Gardevoirs hands as it reached under its bangs and rubbed its eyes, tilting its head back and looking up at Gardevoirs face before letting out confused and curious sounds, Gardevoir flushing brightly as she felt the Ralts over. "It's... One of me..." she said as the Ralts reached up, feeling Gardevoirs horn curiously causing her to jolt and feel over Ralts horn as well.

"Ha ha... That's really something..." Chris chuckled with a smile, nodding as the two Pokemon familiarized themselves with one another. "A shame... It would have been nice to see another of my own kind..." Servine sighed, shrugging as Buneary smiled silently. "You let her hold it while it came into the world... That was very kind of you Master Chris." Gerald told him, nodding with a smile as the nurses swooned over the scene. "Not at all... Since it's a Ralts she deserved to be the one it saw first." he replied. After a moment, Gardevoir and Ralts gave each other a hug before the nurses walked up and Gardevoir gave it back, smiling and waving at it as they bowed and returned to the center. "Man... That's really got me pumped... Let's get to the lab!" Chris grinned before climbing into the limo with the others, Gardevoir continuing to wave silently even though the nurses were gone. Noticing her, he tilt his head and called out to her, getting no response as she put her hand down and stood silently. "Hey... You coming?" he asked, Gardevoir nodding yet remaining still. Walking up to her, Gerald took her arm carefully. "Madam...? Is everything alright?" he asked as Gardevoir followed, her face remaining in the same direction before climbing into the limo and sitting next to Chris silently. "Uhh... Yo! Earth to Gardevoir... What's up?" he asked, giving her a nudge as she faced down, touching her stomach. "...I believe it may be instinct related sir..." Gerald muttered in his ear before shutting the door and climbing into the front, taking the group off into the city once more. "So... You got to hold an egg and hatch it in your arms... Pretty cool right?" he smirked, nudging her once again causing Gardevoir to nod in response, rubbing her stomach. "A... Are you sick or something...?" he asked, the silent Pokemon shaking her head and showing a slight smile. Looking at Gardevoir as well, Servine shook her head with a sigh. "She wants one of her own... You people are so slow..." she muttered, Chris looking at her in surprise before facing Gardevoir once again. "You really want a baby?" he asked, Gardevoir shooting up with a flush on her face. "Ahh... That's it after all..." he said nervously, scratching his cheek with a slight blush of his own. "Hmm... She's in her final form now... I suppose it's only natural for such a desire to surface... Might I recommend a daycare Master Chris...? I'm sure she would meet a rather handsome fellow!" he smiled with a thumbs up. "Daycare...? Huh... Those places are like a dating hot spot for Pokemon aren't they...? Well... Granted it would allow her to try being with her own kind..." he said with a pause, thinking it over only for Gardevoir to let out an insulted noise and suddenly smack him across the face, immediately gasping and pulling away from him wide eyed from her sudden reaction. "YEEEEEOWCH!!!! What was THAT for?!!" he shout, the Pokemon holding her hands up as they trembled, moving her mouth as if silently saying "i'm sorry" before quickly moving away to another seat and hiding her hands under her arms with a terrified expression, tearing up suddenly. "Oh my... Best we not speak of a daycare I suppose... Do forgive me..." Gerald said, blinking wide eyed in surprise himself from seeing Chris hit so hard, Buneary showing the same expression and letting out a raspy "ouch..." noise. "Stuuuupiiiiid..." Servine muttered, shaking her head with a sigh. "H... How am I stupid?! I didn't even say anything!!" he shout in frustration, letting out a hiss as his face burned, rubbing it as he felt the skin swelling slightly. "Crap... I didn't even get to finish what little I WAS saying... I'm not gonna taste anything for a month..." he grumbled, moving his jaw with a groan.

Looking at Gardevoir as she remained silent and seemingly terrified of herself, he shook his head and decided it was best to leave the subject be for the time being, taking out the reports from the center on Buneary and looking them over. "Ooohhh... That's why your actual voice sounds so bad... The box is all screwed up..." he muttered, rubbing her cheek and coaxing her into opening her mouth, allowing him to look deep inside and down her throat, the small rabbit blushing shyly. "After how he treated you and how much you probably strained yourself, you don't have much of a voice left anymore..." he added, letting her close her mouth as she looked down sadly, Chris shaking his head. "I'm sorry... I knew I should have taken you when we first met... I just couldn't bring myself to take a Pokemon away from someone else at the time..." he told her, petting the rabbit on the head as she rubbed her throat, trying to clear it with tiny grunts. "Well... I can't really do anything about your actual voice... But at least you can communicate just fine using Gardevoirs telepathy!" he chuckled, giving Buneary a thumbs up. Looking towards Gardevoir, the rabbit showed a nervous look and faced up at Chris, shaking her head causing him to show a confused expression. "You don't want to talk that way either...?" he asked, the rabbit looking down once again. "She... Get's mad easily... I don't want to get hurt..." she told Chris, causing the group to go wide eyed in surprise, Gardevoir facing the rabbits direction as well. "Wh... Wadaya mean? Gardevoirs a good person... She'd never hurt you!" Chris replied, smiling and rubbing her head as Gardevoir began tearing up. "...She hurt you though... I don't want to say something wrong and get hit too..." she told him, Gardevoir facing down and holding herself as Servine sighed and shook her head. "Ah.... Ha ha... Nah... You got it all wrong..." Chris replied, waving his hand with a nervous smile.

"You see... They're just real sensitive is all... Umm... How to explain it in a way you'll understand..." he said, pausing while thinking his words over carefully. "These girls... They're like two flowers in a garden of weeds... A world of weeds really... Like... The last two flowers on the planet. They've had to fight so hard for survival it's left them a little rough around the thorns you could say... But they're still the most amazing flowers you'll ever see!" he laughed, letting out a sigh and rubbing his face. "I'll admit... Their thorns hurt... But they don't really mean to hurt you either, or each other... It's just who they are... I've never really been hit like that before by either of them, so I had to of deserved it somehow..." he said with a pause, looking at Gardevoir as she continued facing down, clutching herself tightly and wiping her eyes. "But uh... No matter what, we love each other through and through! We're a family so its only natural to have bad times along with the good!" he told her, scratching under the rabbits chin. "I make these two vow never to harm one another... So you'll never be touched in a harmful way by either of them, no worries! Right girls...?" he asked, the two nodding silently as Gerald watched, scratching his cheek nervously. "Oh dear... I spoke without thinking..." he muttered. Looking at the group and thinking about Gardevoirs reaction, he brought the limo to a stop at a light and cleared his throat. "Master Chris... Please don't think badly of me for bringing this topic up but... The relationship between you and these Pokemon... Its not exactly the same as your common relationship, is it?" he asked, Chris jolting with a slight blush. "Ah... Well..." he replied with a pause, looking at the two as Buneary watched the group, tilting her head curiously. "I see... So that's why..." he said, letting out a sigh and shaking his head. "After everything... I should have known as much..." he added. With the light green once more, Gerald continued through the city, the group behind him remaining silent along the way.

"...If I may, what WERE you going to say before the... Er... Interruption on Gardevoirs part?" he asked, Chris looking at him confused before bopping his fist in his palm. "Oh yeah!! Ahh... Well..." he said, rubbing his face nervously. "I was just... Gonna say it wasn't a good idea... I didn't think these girls wanted any part of that kind of scene was all... I admit we're uh... Close and all so... It'd be like betrayal probably... Taking them to a place like that, where... THAT kind of stuff happens a lot... It would be like saying I didn't feel the same as they do after certain things have already happened between us... Like doing something, then telling them to go find someone else and fool around with them... I couldn't do that... And I... Guess I admit I wouldn't want them... With uhh... Others... That way... I mean..." he replied, looking down embarrassed with a scowl as Gardevoir blinked in surprise and let out a guilty groan, holding up her hand and shaking her head, Servine thinking about her own comment following the strike and scratching her cheek in guilt as well, letting out a silent "oops..." before glancing towards him. "...Pardon for the stupid comment..." she told him, looking down as Gardevoir nodded. "Sorry... Hit you..." she added, Chris looking at the two and waving his hands nervously. "N... No worries! It wouldn't have happened if I spoke up about the subject the right way..." he told them, Gerald watching the group and nodding. "Wound stitched..." he muttered, letting out a relieved sigh. "Pardon for... Causing such a scenario... I do hope you don't mind me figuring out what's going on between you..." he said, looking in the mirror as Chris let out a sigh and shook his head. "That's not my concern... I just don't want anyone thinking any less of these girls for being with a guy like me... People would probably think I'm a sicko and stuff... Think I forced them to do something most feel is unnatural..." he admitted, rubbing his arm nervously as Servine put her nose up. "THINK you forced us? Hah! I WAS forced I'll have you know!! This male is an amateur pig!!" she scoffed, smirking proudly before looking at the others, shaking their heads in response as she cleared her throat. "I uh..." she said nervously, looking up at Chris before facing down. "...I take that one back. Poor timing..." she muttered, clutching her tail with a slight blush. "Anyways... Any chance you could keep it a..." Chris asked with a pause as Gerald raised his hand and shook his head.

"Far be it for me to judge ones relationship with another... So long as the love is true and the bond is strong, I care not who one loves, be it his fellow man or devoted Pokemon... In whatever way that may be. It's all the same in the heart, no matter what ones mind may think..." he replied with a smile, nodding as they reached the laboratory. Parking near the entrance, Gerald helped Chris back in his chair, lifting Buneary up and onto his lap as well. "Gee... I'm real sorry our first impression hasn't gone over so well... We really aren't a violent group at all... I hope you don't regret choosing to stick with us..." Chris told her, rubbing the back of his head with a guilty look, facing back at the two still sitting in the limo. "I kind of have a reputation for being terrible with girls. Before those two, I'd never been with one in my whole life... So... Even with them I'm bad at saying and doing the right stuff... Every now and then I guess I do kinda get on their nerves..." he laughed nervously, looking back down at Buneary as the two Pokemon in the limo fidget silently. "They really are sweethearts, I can promise you that! The best girls a fella could ask for! They're just stuck with a guy who has no idea how to avoid making a girl upset... I hope I don't make you frustrated being with me too... I always have the best intentions though! I'm just... Bad at saying and doing the right stuff is all... Ha ha... Hopeless and stupid..." he told her with a nervous smile, knocking himself on the head as the small rabbit looked past him at the two Pokemon showing guilty expressions themselves as they climbed out of the limo before facing up at him again, suddenly patting him on the chest and shaking her head with a smile. "I just need time to get used to having a new... Family... Time to get to know you..." she told him, pulling her ear down and fidgeting it shyly. "If... Saying that's okay..." she added, glancing up at him as he blinked and gave her a warm smile. "Yeah... It'll be great getting to know you too." he assured her, giving a thumbs up causing her to smile and blush. "You're... Really nice..." she said as the others walked up to them.

"He's a man with true heart and spirit..." Gerald said with a smile, patting Chris on the shoulder. "...Other people see nothing in us. He see something... Take us in, make family..." Gardevoir added, facing down with a depressed look on her face. "Always say want to protect... Repay him for love..." she said, holding up her hand. "But... Screw up a lot... Lose control too much... Always cause him trouble... Just hurt him..." she continued, shaking her head as Servine crossed her arms and faced away. "That's what you do, idiot... I may call him a few names, but that's nothing compared to what you've done... The fool nearly died for you and you just nearly knock him out." Servine said in an irritated tone. "Calling the man a name and laying such a brutal hand on him are two different things. To think YOU threatened ME not to hurt him..." she reminded Gardevoir, the already depressed Pokemon suddenly tearing up again and hicking. "Hey now... That's enough, both of you..." Chris told the two in a firm tone. "I just think of it as us being even now since I had to give Gardevoir a slap on the hand... The hitting is behind us so lets just move forward with a smile on our faces." he told them, reaching out and holding Gardevoirs hand. "I hate sad faces as much as I hate you girls being mean towards one another... Now come on... If I'm gonna make it through this rehabilitation, I need to be able to see you girls smiling..." he told them, both Pokemon nodding as Gardevoir wiped her eyes, apologizing once again. Looking at the group, Gerald smiled with a worn out look, shaking his head with a sigh before guiding Gardevoir behind the wheelchair. "Ah...!! Shouldn't!! You push!!" Gardevoir shout in a panic, squirming away from Gerald and pulling him behind the chair instead, stepping back and clutching her hands together. "Hey... What's with you?" Chris asked as she faced down. "S... Sorry..." she replied. Pulling her towards the chair a second time, Gerald put her hands on it and backed away. "You... Sure...?" she asked nervously. "Of course. Just forget about it already! Now lets get going." he replied, crossing his arms with a sigh and shaking his head. "Guess I'm just gonna have to encourage myself with my own smile then..." he added as they went inside, an irritated look on his face as he rubbed the seemingly glowing mark on his face once more.

Getting directions at the reception desk, the group made their way towards the upper levels of the laboratory, running into Professor Rose along the way who gave them an irritated look causing Chris to laugh and wave his hands nervously. "S... Sorry for being late! We... Had a reason..." he told her, looking down at Buneary on his lap as she looked the new visitor over as well, the small rabbit jolting and quickly hiding her face. "...Ha ha, I already knew..." she replied, raising up with a smirk and winking. "You're the hot topic of the city, remember? You barely move an inch without being covered on the air... You've got a good enough excuse." she nodded, Chris letting out a sigh and thanking her as she blinked at him and pointed towards his face, about to speak only for Chris to jolt and rapidly shake his head, putting his finger up to his mouth causing the professor to tilt her head confused. "Yes... Well... Everything's ready for you. We've got a team volunteering so you'll have all the aid you need, provided you don't mind them doing research mind you..." she told him, Chris shaking his head in response. "Not at all... You sure you don't want me to pay...? I'm really not into all this freebie treatment I've been getting lately..." he admitted, the professor grinning with a slightly dark look in her expression. "Oh... You're paying for it... In a way worth far more than money..." she chuckled, her tone causing a shiver to run up his spine, the others showing looks of confusion and concern combined. "And we're also ready to start on that side project we spoke of... We've already developed a prototype that shares the same concept, so we'll be working around that until we manage to create something a little more reliable." she added, Chris nodding as the others faced him. "I don't suppose you could tell us what that is now?" Gerald asked, raising an eyebrow only for him to shake his head in response. "Naturally..." he sighed, shaking his head as the others did the same.

Heading into the rehabilitation ward of the laboratory, the group was greeted by several scientists as they waved, some grinning with a shine in their glasses while looking him over. "So this is the specimen... Remarkable... He looks like your average man..." one muttered, looking into one of his eyes as another examined his ears. "For the human body to withstand the impact of a truck... This will be a remarkable experiment indeed..." another chuckled. "Perhaps he's unlocked some long lost ability... The form of a man yet the strength and endurance of seemingly hundreds of Primeape... Fascinating..." another said, more and more gathering around him and looking him over as he sat frozen, sweating nervously as Professor Rose laughed. "Told you the therapy would be paid for!" she said, Chris laughing nervously in response only for the group to pull out his tongue and look down his throat the second he opened his mouth. "H... Hwey!!! Easy easy!! Wewease the tongue!!" he shout, pulling back as the scientists rubbed their hands together like sly foxes with wide grins. "Please forgive us! We've never seen a being with such astounding capabilities... We look forward to aiding you!" they said with a bow as Chris wiped off his tongue. "Well... At least you've got gloves..." he muttered. "Ladies and gentlemen, if I may remind you we've also got Gardevoir with us as well, with the advanced ability of sharing her telepathic powers with the Pokemon surrounding her. It seemingly doesn't matter what Pokemon it is, so long as it's within her range it can speak the human tongue with its mind the same as she!" Professor Rose told the group, standing next to Gardevoir and pointing her out as if she were something on display, the scientists making an "ooohhh..." sound together before quickly jotting down notes. "We must research this Pokemon as well... Imagine the possibilities! We may finally unlock a way to communicate freely with these creatures on our own! Talk about luck... A superhuman and an advanced Pokemon... It could benefit mankind as a whole..." one of the scientists said with a grin, Chris's eye twitching as he crossed his arms.

"Let's get one thing straight... They aren't just creatures, and you don't refer to them as "it" either... They're family to me so be careful how you talk to and about them." he told the group with an irritated look, the scientists blinking at him in surprise before bowing. "Our apologies." they replied simultaneously, Chris nodding in response as the Pokemon and Professor Rose faced him and smiled, Gardevoir facing down and clutching the handles of his chair tightly in silence. "Hey... You gonna quit yet?" he suddenly asked, reaching back and tapping Gardevoir on the head, causing her to jolt in surprise. "S... Sorry! Just... Sorry..." she replied. Scowling, he pulled her in front of him and handed Buneary to Gerald, the small rabbit letting out a raspy shout and hiding in its fur from being held by someone else as he pulled Gardevoir on his lap, the Pokemon going wide eyed and freezing up. "Alright then... You asked for it..." he said, suddenly giving Gardevoir a rough noogie causing her to jolt and start flailing in his grasp. Shouting for him to stop, he continued as the others watched, tilting their heads confused as the scientists rapidly wrote notes. "Yeah, you hate this, huh?! I hate how you're acting!! You gonna stop the pity party?! You gonna shape up?!" he asked as Gardevoir fought against him. "Cheer up or I'll keep doing it!! You gonna stop moping around?!" he shout, Gardevoir finally giving in as she teared up. With a nod, he stopped and let her go, allowing Gardevoir to stand and cover her head while sniffling, scowling like a child as she fixed her hair. "That... Mean... Unfair... Feel bad as it is..." she told him. "Life isn't fair! We all make mistakes and do things we regret... The important thing is getting over it and learning from it instead of letting those mistakes ruin our lives. Our relationships... Haven't I taught you that much yet?! If I can get over being the one slapped, you can get over being the one who did it! Stop with the guilt and move on!" he told her firmly, Gardevoir blinking in surprise before nodding and wiping her eyes. "Never hit again... Swear it..." she told him with a bow, causing Chris to jolt and look away, scratching his cheek. "Quit that... I don't like you girls bowing to me either..." he reminded her.

Taking Buneary back, the small rabbit peeked up at Chris and let out a sigh, relaxing as he sat her in his lap and pet her head. "And that's how we solve a problem you could say..." he chuckled, looking at Gardevoir as she grumbled with a slight blush. "Well... When it comes to Gardevoir. Now when it comes to Servine, taking care of her is a whole different ballgame!" he grinned, the snake suddenly looking up at him wide eyed. "Excuse me?!" she barked, causing him to laugh as Gerald crossed his arms with a smile, nodding as the scientists watched the group curiously, muttering towards one another. "Bah... Come on, you know you give me a hard time just to toy with me..." he replied, reaching down and scratching under her chin, the snake trying to maintain a scowl only for a smile to tremble on the side of her mouth before it spread across her face and she began kicking a leg, quickly snapping out of it and pushing him away. "D... Don't do that!! You know it annoys me!!" she snapped, turning away and crossing her arms with an embarrassed blush. "What...? Because you like it...?" he chuckled, suddenly running a finger up her back causing the snake to jolt and freeze up with a shout, trembling before jumping away and climbing up on Geralds shoulder. "Dirty dog!!!" she barked, seemingly glowing while swishing her tail in frustration. "And... That's how our family is..." he smiled. "We've got our good times, a few bad times... Always busy for one reason or another... And the moods are always swingin' around so things can be hard to follow... But we're a family nonetheless. We just aren't exactly your average family... A bunch of misfits I guess is the best way to describe us." he chuckled, Servine continuing to scowl with a blush as Gardevoir stood rubbing her head, facing down with a small smile. Looking at them all, Buneary nodded and smiled in response. "I... Like your family. You have a nice relationship..." she said, reaching up for her ear and pulling it down to fidget with once again. "You're very forgiving... I like that..." she told him with a blush. "Ha ha... You don't hold grudges against family... Then again I'm not the type to hold a grudge towards anyone in general really..." he replied with a shrug, suddenly reaching out and pulling Gardevoir close to his side, causing her to flush while snatching Servine from Gerald simultaneously as well and pulling her against him with a grin, the snake flailing in frustration with an irritated look yet blushing as well, letting out a sigh and eventually slumping in his arm giving in. "These girls are all I've got on this crazy adventure... I can't let the bad times ruin our bond." he grinned.

"Interesting... Such a relationship is more akin to humankind rather than what's commonly seen between man and Pokemon..." one of the scientists muttered. "Indeed... If you weren't looking at them face to face, you'd think they were all human..." another added. "Huh...?" Chris said, blinking at them as he continued holding the two. "Well... To me they're as human as anyone..." he replied, letting the two go allowing Gardevoir to catch her breath as Servine jumped away, crossing her arms and looking away shyly. "Anyways... I'm ready to get to work so... Is it alright if I start...?" he asked, the staff nodding before taking him into the gym, Chris handing Buneary back to Gerald as they took him through the doors. "You're all welcome to watch his progress through the window over there. For the sake of avoiding any distractions and interference, we ask others not to enter when friends... Ahh... And/or relatives tag along with the patient." Professor Rose told the group, pointing out the waiting area nearby next to a portion of the wall made of glass for people to watch. "Ah... Very well madam... Shall we ladies?" Gerald asked, Servine and Buneary nodding as Gardevoir faced different directions, nodding as well. "He'll be safe...?" she asked. "Of course! Our staff may be a little excited... But rest assured he's in the best hands our region has to offer!" Rose replied. "Hah! Better he be in their care than yours, clearly..." Servine scoffed, Gardevoir groaning and slumping in response. "Hey now... What did he tell you?" Gerald lectured, the snake scowling and facing away with her nose up. "Honestly... No matter what, you girls will always find a way to get to one another... You make for one troubling triangle..." he told them as they sat at the waiting area, looking through the glass as the staff went over everything in the gym with Chris.

"Haaah... The lad's finally going through the next trial... It'll test him more-so than the stay at the hospital I'd wager..." Gerald said, watching Chris try to hold himself up on parallel bars before glancing at the others as they watched, Gardevoir facing down silently as he cleared his throat. "...I must say, it's a shame... Not having any happy faces pushing him along..." he added, the group fidgeting in response. "Indeed... All he asked for were a few smiles... Couldn't even get that from those who matter most to him... Probably feels all alone... Getting hit right before such painful therapy by a loved one..." he said, Gardevoir groaning again and putting her elbows on her knees while covering her face. "Then... Having to put himself aside and cheer up said loved one... Topped with having to settle down a bunch of bickering when he should have been more important than petty squabbles... It's a real shame..." he said, watching Chris as his legs wobbled, trying to take steps with a nervous look on his face. "...Even hugging those he loves, only for them to act like being held bothers them... I bet it hurts being fought against just to hold someone he cares for so deeply..." he added, looking at Servine causing the snake to jolt and look away, rubbing her arm with a guilty look on her face. "Yeah... I'd wager he was just trying to give himself the strength to go through the trials ahead... Since nobody saw it in their heart to encourage him on their own... I bet those smiles of his weren't even real... Just an act for those he loves while terrified inside... What a pitiable man... All alone when those he calls family... Who supposedly love him are so close, just sitting and keeping to themselves while he endures all that..." he said, pouring on the guilt trip while crossing his arms and shaking his head. "So sad really... So... So sad... A man who does so much for those he cares for... Even for total strangers... Just to be treated so badly when he needs his supposed family most... My oh my..." he added, sighing as he relaxed. "In there now... On his own and probably feeling like the scum of the Earth because he can't find a way to get you girls to get along and can't get you to smile for him... Likely thinking he's a lost cause with nobody willing to put themselves aside long enough to give him the willpower to walk... I'd wager the only reason he was in such a rush to do so in the first place was so he could spend more time with you and enjoy more activities by your side as well... Poor fellow has probably felt rather low, wheeling around while wishing he could walk by your side... I would certainly be ashamed of myself, I know that much..." he finished, watching Chris as he stumbled, his hand slipping from one of the bars only to cling to the other, the staff reaching out only for him to shake his head and smile nervously, motioning for them to stand back as he straightened up and continued along the bars.

Sitting and watching silently for a moment, Gerald sat up as Gardevoir stood and felt her way towards the glass, standing in front of it silently as she felt over the wall. "I'm afraid you can't bother him at the moment madam... You girls had your chance before he went inside..." he reminded her, the Pokemon facing down silently for a moment before suddenly knocking on the glass. Hearing her, Chris and the staff inside looked in her direction, and next thing they knew, they watched as Gardevoir put her hands in front of her chest, making the shape of a heart as tears began streaming from her eyes, the words "I love you" coming silently from her lips causing Chris to look at her wide eyed. "Madam...?" Gerald called out, only to watch as Servine walked up to the glass as well, looking up at Gardevoir before releasing her vines and forming a heart above her head, looking away with a blush and scratching her cheek before doing the same, silently mouthing "love you" herself. "Well... I'll be..." Gerald muttered as Buneary watched the two, suddenly lowering herself to the floor and limping towards the glass along with the others, looking at what they were doing before smiling and forming a heart above her head with her ears and waving at Chris. "Does he... See...?" Gardevoir asked, sniffling as Gerald stood and walked up behind them. Looking inside, he saw Chris grinning from ear to ear as he started pushing himself to move his legs all the more, Professor Rose looking at the group and nodding with a smile of her own as they kept an eye on him. "He does indeed madam... I think its even given him an extra pep in his step too!" he chuckled, Gardevoir responding with "Good" as she continued standing with her hands in the shape of a heart, slowly showing a smile as Servine and Buneary did the same, Servine giving Chris a thumbs up as Gerald winked and gave Chris a thumbs up of his own, nodding before backing away from the group and walking over towards an open window.

"Haaah... Now THAT'S what I call a family..." he chuckled, looking at the group remaining at the window as he took out a pipe and lit it, enjoying a personal moment while watching Chris himself. However, he suddenly began hearing someone coughing outside the window, causing him to jump and nearly drop his pipe as he looked outside only to find N fanning away the smoke while sitting atop the same Pidgeot from before. "G... Good heavens lad!! Don't do that to an old man!!" he said, clutching his chest with a sigh as N jumped inside, waving at the Pidgeot as it flew off. "Sorry about that... I've been watching everything they've done and thought I'd catch up and give my compliments again... He's still busy though, huh?" N asked, looking at Chris with a smile, giving him a wave only for Chris to slip when he tried to wave back, clutching the bar and pulling himself back up before sitting back in his chair and moving on to another exercise to try out. "Ah... My bad..." N said nervously, looking around the area. "It was pretty amazing, what he did back at the center and all... Watched what he did at the prison first hand as well... He really never stops, does he?" N asked, leaning against the wall. "Well... He's got an admirable spirit... But I must tell you he really isn't in favor of having so many following him so constantly..." Gerald replied, shaking his head before continuing to enjoy his pipe. "Ha ha... I try not to make it obvious as others do... Although when you keep an eye on someone who intrigues you, sometimes you witness a few things you really aren't supposed to..." N admitted, looking at the group of Pokemon at the wall. "Oh...?" Gerald replied, raising an eyebrow as N scratched his cheek with a nervous smile. "Lets just say sometimes it's best to keep your blinds shut..." he replied, blushing slightly and clearing his throat. "Good heavens lad... Have you been watching the man in his own abode?" Gerald asked, sweating slightly as N waved his hands. "J... Just once! I wanted to visit when he wasn't busy but he uh... Well... It was best I shut the blinds for him..." N admitted, Gerald groaning and shaking his head. "I... I learned a lesson though!! Rest assured I've been more careful when deciding when its the right time to check up on him!" he replied with a nervous laugh, waving his hands before clearing his throat.

"That explains why he seemed so wary when clearing his balcony..." Gerald grumbled. "Really sir, that could be considered a criminal offense... Same with the reporters who stalk the poor lad really..." he added, watching Chris once again as he started working out on other equipment. "Ha ha... I'm sorry about that. I'm terrible with people really..." N admitted, watching Chris as well. "All my life I grew up with Pokemon instead of people... Primarily ones that had been hurt by other humans... So I'm still working on how I interact with others." he explained, Gerald raising a curious eyebrow once more. "Sounds like an interesting tale..." he replied, N nodding before waving his hand. "One for another day however..." he said. Stretching and putting his hands behind his head, N walked up behind the others and watched Chris train, Gerald finishing his pipe before joining as well with a smile on their faces giving a random thumbs up to help Chris continue pushing himself as the staff continuously examined him and wrote down notes, Gerald noticing Professor Rose having random conversations with him and showing off different sheets and large poster sized pieces of paper.

"...What's that about I wonder...?" he muttered, N taking notice as well and smiling. "Something amazing I'm sure... When it comes to him, almost everything seems to be..." he replied, Gerald nodding as the Pokemon jumped and turned around. "ITS THE CREEP!!!" Servine shout, pointing towards N nervously before slithering up and onto Gardevoirs shoulder, letting out a hiss as Buneary hid behind a nearby plant, trembling as Gardevoir put her hand up. "Knew I sensed other Chris again... N right...? Hi..." she said in a monotone voice, N laughing nervously and waving at the others only for Gardevoir to turn and feel for the glass, standing silently once again as Servine and Buneary kept an eye on him. "Seems I have yet to leave a good impression with this bunch... But that's my fault of course... I did introduce myself from the start a bit rudely..." he admitted, Servine grumbling before putting her focus back on Chris, Buneary watching him train from behind the plant cautiously. "You... Do have a habit of popping up at the strangest times, even with good intentions..." Gerald told him with a nervous laugh. "I'll be sure to work on that..." N replied, the group suddenly gasping as Chris flailed under a leg press device, his face turning blue as the staff quickly took what few weights were on it off. "Oh my... He's going to over-exert himself..." Gerald smiled nervously, Servine shaking her head and muttering "stupid" as Gardevoir faced different directions confused. "What happen? Why gasp and call name?" she asked, Gerald patting her on the shoulder. "Stay calm madam... Master Chris merely tried to take on more than he could handle... I suppose the staff have to let him try what he desires, but I'm not so sure how long they'll stick to that if he causes himself harm..." he laughed, shaking his head as Gardevoir showed a worried look nonetheless. "He's enthusiastic... I look forward to shaking his hand once he's back on his feet..." N smiled, Servine glancing at him with a scowl. "You love touching people..." she muttered, N blinking at her as Gerald let out a grunt and waved his finger. "Do forgive her sir... Always a sharp tongue on that one..." he apologized, the snake turning away with her nose up as Buneary watched the group curiously.

"Ha ha... Its alright. She's a spicy one... Pokemon have their own personalities the same as humans. You can't judge them unjustly for being themselves." N chuckled, Gardevoir jolting and facing behind herself. "...Talk like him too..." she muttered, N looking at her and tilting his head confused. "What was that...?" he asked, the Pokemon shaking her head in response. "Nothing. Just noticed was all." she replied, facing the glass once again.

As the group went silent once again, they continued watching Chris as he gave his first training session his all, clumsily overexerting himself from time to time, but doing his best nonetheless as he and the Professor continued going over something secret simultaneously...

Millennium City Saga Showdown
Pokemon - Tale Of The Guardian Master - CH 64
Previous Chapter - https://inkbunny.net/submissionview.php?id=894624

Next Chapter - Soon

A young man named Chris, now 23, discovered he was the one chosen to carry a curse passed onto him through his bloodline by a Ninetails his grandfather saved long ago, having grabbed its sacred tails to save it from falling to its demise. Burdened with this fate, Chris accepts it and allows the curse to guide him freely in life, destined to forever put others before himself, to forever follow the path the curse guides him along towards those in need most...

Along his journey thus far, Chris has come across a Ralts who was abandoned by its former trainer for being blind, hurled off the edge of a cliff that has since evolved into a full fledged Gardevoir, with the mysterious and terrifying ability to use the power of a Shadow Pokemon... As well as a Snivy who has since become a Servine, abandoned by its former trainer for refusing to evolve after a terrifying battle it had with a Serperior that left it mentally scarred.

Chris has met many people and Pokemon alike along his journey, each left as inspired by his presence as the last... He's taught Gardevoir and Servine the worth in every living being, sacrificed himself to save them after a deadly attack by a pack of Houndoom, hurling himself off a cliff and nearly dying... Provided a hospital full of children an awe inspiring play room full of wonders any child would adore... And has inspired the mysterious N from the Pokemon series as well, finding Chris a worthy man of keeping an eye on along his journey...

Now, Chris lingers on the line between hero and criminal, having broken the law by invading the largest prison in his region to free their newest friend, a Buneary that was abused by her former trainer, now an inmate thanks to Chris... In the process, he took the trainers other Pokemon as well, stripping away his right to be a trainer for his brutal crimes against his own Pokemon.

Luckily temporarily pardoned for his crimes by the prisons Warden, and ironically the inmates father, Chris is now under orders to remain within Millennium City until he faces the Warden in a gym battle to determine if he will remain a free man, or will spend time behind bars...

Great chapter. N turning out to be the one who closed the blinds… but how long was he watching…

I’m still thinking about what would have happened in an alternative scenario, where they help the stomach ill Pokemon… would your writing skill bring us readers to nearly vomit, like some of the nurses? Hmm… somehow I start to fear the alternative scenario.
Need other thoughts right now…

After all the time together, Gerald has finally admitted knowing about Chris relationship with his Pokemon. Maybe it opens the way for more specific conversations. At least he can make fine speeches, too. Like encourage everyone to overcome their guilt.
Speaking of it, have both -Gardevoir and Servine- said “(I) love you” out loud, not through telepathy?!

One last thought to this Chapter. The scientists (and everyone else) think the humans are the dominant species… but how did it end up this way? Pokemon are much stronger than humans and have incredible abilities. I admit humans have advanced technology, but they didn’t have it for centuries. Why did the Pokemon not resisted? Why they have not helped the enslaved Pokemon at the beginning of the rise of the humankind?
Questions upon questions.

Lets see... Where to start...

I could have disgusted people greatly really, but best I didn't. I've seen enough stuff out there to make fresh milk curl into cheese instantaneously... Next, as far as Gerald convincing the group to "overcome" their guilt, he really added onto it as heavy as he could to make them shape up and put Chris before themselves, kind of reminding them what actually matters in the moment...

As far as Gardevoir and Servine "saying" the words "I love you" they actually just mouthed it silently, Servine doing so out of watching people say it on TV as well as Gardevoir, mouthing something is easy, learning to say it is the real challenge.

Lastly, from what I know the canon concept is that humans were once Pokemon as well but evolved into their own species overtime after Arceus created reality. And in turn they took on the role of real world human beings as destined to dominate it and use it to thrive. Think of Arceus as God/Christ in this sense.

Thanks. This time I could not only learn something new about Pokemon, but also enlarge my vocabulary. Yesterday I couldn’t find a proper translation for “mouthing” on three online translator, including google. And just today I had the idea to look up its meaning.

Do you have a good link for the Lore?

Mmm... I don't really as there are SO many locations that go through the lore to different degrees and in different ways... Most of the Pokemon Wiki's out there and fan sites cover everything in their own style.

Hah, god damn Gerald. You really know how to pile on the guilt. And Chris messed up again and got slapped this time to boot! And of course Gardevoir gelt terrible about it though. Hopefully Gerald's extreme guilt trip helps them all come together again. That group really needs to find a good equilibrium.
And ladtly N shows up. Creepy stalker pervert.
