Why is he jumping like that?

Neat little animation.

I imagine he is demonstrating the high jump to the track team. It looks like the form one would use to clear a high obstacle.

The nude version is what a few students are imagining.

Just doesn't look like a safe way to hop.  Leave hopping to the professionals.   :)

Incredible work; you can really see a lot went into making this~

I just had to give it a download and check out every frame in Photoshop. The .gif is pretty small (I wonder if these sites might support .gifv? The compression isn't as bad, they run better, and they're still like 10-20x smaller file size) but it's still easy to tell a lot of effort went into this. Every frame could be uploaded on your gallery and stand on its own~

There's actually no such thing as a .gifv. Those 'gifv's are just heavily compressed H.264 .mp4 video with an HTML wrapper.

Inkbunny already natively supports .mp4 video, so there would be no advantage to 'gifv'.

I've never really noticed the heavy compression, any moreso than I would in a .gif anyway. I'm not sure what the all the gritty details of video compression are, but .gifs as far as I can tell are more akin to the moving-picture version of a .bmp where video codecs would be closer to moving .jpegs.

I wonder though, is there really no better compressed image sequence format than .gif? For our modern needs (larger images with more frames and more changes between frames, better compatibility when it comes to generating thumbnails, less strain on processor, smaller compressed size, better loading/streaming) the .gif format is fairly outdated. I realize .gifv and GFYcat are actually just video formats with a wrapper, but has nobody made an actual new image format to fit our modern needs?

They have. Dozens of them. However, no one ever uses them because .gif works in everything.

SVG supports animation, as does MNG (MNG is specifically an animated version of PNG), and for that matter, Flash. There's also APNG which isn't really a standard despite years of trying, and so on and so forth.

But browser support for anything but .gif is spotty as best, so that's what still gets used.

Boing! Adorable.

Though I do wonder what launched him.

Or is it just 'pop goes the weasel', emphatically?

Both of those are insanely cute, but I was wondering what the second version would be.  Should've guessed it'd be the "sans clothes" one.  XD

Your browser must not be playing the animations.  I believe there's a setting in web browsers to turn that on or off, in most cases.
