People rarely make decisions based on logic; instead they often do things as they are taught to do them. Tradition and emotion is often stronger than education; why else would there still be holy wars? It's not often easy to see a solution from inside the problem. Especially considering that Changlings seem naturally bred (or evolved) to infiltrate, invade, harvest, then retreat.
If that is the case, Chrys can hardly be blamed for thinking along the lines of "It ALWAYS worked before, so we have no Plan B."

It's not like when they feed off love they are killing anyone. Even in the episode all you saw shining armor become was just a bit tipsy and used like a zombie. So no the changelings don't kill with they feast off love.

Only problem with this is that according to Fiendship is Magic #5, Changelings can enter a state of hibernation during periods of scarcity. Though that could just have been a lie made up by Chrysi on account that she used that information to lull Twilight into a false sense of security. Though if it wasn't a lie I still don't think it would be a long term solution in the scenario above if ponies adopted an aggressive Anti-Changeling policy.
