Chapter 52 - A Mysterious N-counter!

Taking off from the beach, Gerald gave Chris a map of he city usually given to tourists, showing off some of the most popular locations to hang out, shop, and dine. Looking over it wide eyed, Chris muttered a quiet "wow..." as he browsed all the locations and admired the size of the city itself. "Huh... Well... Guess we could have something oriental..." he suggested, asking Gerald to roll down the window next to him so he could enjoy the breeze. After a moment, the limo suddenly came to a stop due to a construction site, having to wait their turn as people and machines traveled all over the road. Muttering to himself in irritation, Gerald sat at the wheel with his arms crossed, tapping a finger on his arm as Chris smiled and shook his head. "Anyways... Yeah... That way I know we're going somewhere everyone can enjoy. Gardevoir loves teriyaki stuff and they would have plenty of vegetable type stuff for Servine too... You like oriental too right Gerald?" he asked, causing the old butler to jolt and quickly wave his hands. "P... Please Chris, do focus on yourself today! Don't fret over me!" he smiled nervously, only for Chris to give him a stern glare causing Gerald to sigh and nod. "V... Very well... It would be rather nice I suppose..." he responded in defeat, Chris nodding with a "Good!". Looking at the two Pokemon as Servine watched the construction curiously and Gardevoir sat next to him in silence, Chris suddenly scowled at her and gave her a nudge. "So... What brought that stuff on at the beach...? Why did you suddenly bow to me and give me that big speech for? That was kinda embarrassing you know..." he asked, causing Gardevoir to jolt and blush, facing away shyly. "I... Its because of... Everything you did so far... Because of what you do at hospital... You were really nice to children... Spend so much... It just inspired is all... I do bad thing...?" she asked, poking her fingers together as Chris crossed his arms and looked at her nervously. "Well... While I appreciate what you said, cause it did make me feel pretty good... You called me master several times. I told you I'm not your master... I'm your friend..." he responded, causing Gardevoir to sulk.

Little did they know however... Just outside the limos open window, a strange man was sitting on a bike, waiting for the chance to move the same as them. His face hidden by a cap, the man had been watching Chris as he spoke to Gardevoir, showing a slight smile as he listened in. "How interesting... " he muttered.

"J... Just telling you how important you are..." Gardevoir told Chris sadly. "I know it wrong... Because we... Family and stuff but... Sometimes want to call you master... At first I get mad hearing Gerald call you master... Cause you say you don't like... Then it... Made me feel jealous... Master is important word... Saying it make me feel... Funny... Make me feel have stronger purpose... Stronger bond with you... Not fair Gerald gets to say..." she answered, blushing once again as Chris tilt his head, facing the ceiling of the limo for a moment before letting out a sigh. Watching the two, Gerald cleared his throat. "I... If its alright for me to speak up here... I don't think it would be too terribly wrong to allow Gardevoir to call you that... If its what she wants at heart... At least now and then... To some it feels a tad degrading not to refer to a person in a specific way one believes in... I myself prefer honoring you as a master myself... You're certainly worthy of the title." Gerald told him, smiling nervously with a bit of sweat on his face. Looking at Gerald with a scowl, not helping the situation as Chris really didn't care for a title like master, he grumbled and shook his head, looking at Gardevoir as she continued sulking. "I'm sorry... For doing bad thing... Just respect is all..." she said sadly. Looking at her silently, Chris let out a sigh as he thought of what to do.

"Well stranger... What will you say next...?" the man outside the limo muttered. Finally, Chris suddenly gave her a gentle chop on the head, making Gardevoir squeak before facing up, slightly blushing as he started rubbing her on the head with a chuckle. "You dummy... You can tell me how you feel and make me happy without the master part... But if you're starting to feel the word is that important... You can say it I guess. Just remember, we're FRIENDS no matter what you call me... Got that?" he reminded her firmly, causing Gardevoir to blink at him wide eyed. "You... Change rule for me...? Let me say something... Even if you don't like...?" she asked, causing Chris to look away embarrassed as he scratched his cheek with an irritated look. "Y... Yeah yeah... Just don't go crazy calling me that too often... If it makes you happy, say what you want... Part of being your own free Pokemon..." he replied as the man outside the limo smiled and nodded. Standing up, he leaned his bike against a lamppost and walked up to the window, holding his hand out. "Well said... Its good to meet another human like you..." he told Chris. Making him jump in surprise, Chris looked out his window, blinking at the mans hand nervously before looking towards his face. "Uhh... What...? Who are...?" he asked, looking at the mans hand for a moment before cautiously shaking it. "Oh... Nobody important... Just a traveler who found himself touched by your conversation with your Pokemon is all... Sorry for eavesdropping. You don't hear many people talk to their Pokemon like that so I couldn't resist being a little nosy..." he said. "Err... Okay then... Uhh... Well yeah... These are the Pokemon who travel with me... I don't really like calling them mine though... Sounds possessive but... That's Servine over there, and this is Gardevoir..." he told the man, allowing him to lean his head into the limo and look at the two.

"Ha ha... Nice to meet you." he told the two with a smile, Servine blinking at him and sweating nervously from having a stranger poking his head inside their ride. "H... How dare you!? How rude!!" she shout while Gardevoir jumped as she heard a strangers voice near her. However... Suddenly relaxing, she tilt her head confused for a moment. "Two... Chris...? What... Going on?" she asked, facing their direction causing Chris to look at her just as confused. "Two who...?" he asked as the man saw Gardevoirs eyes, frowning for a moment before showing another smile. "She's quite the telepathy master... Able to let other Pokemon speak as well... If she's confusing us for one another, it must mean we're kindred spirits... She can see us for who we really are within. That being the case, I can tell her problem isn't your fault... Therefore I trust and respect you all the more. Its good to meet you, Chris." he told him with a chuckle, causing Chris to blink at him confused. "How do you... Know me?" he asked. "Oh... You were all over TV not too long ago. I... Guess we really should have some kind of proper introduction... You asked who I was right? Just call me... N..." he told him, causing Chris to tilt his head. "N...? Your name is... N? Like... Just the letter?" he asked, the man nodding in response. "Careful, don't wear it out now." he laughed, pulling his head out of the window with a wave. "Well then... Its nice to meet you... Err... N!" Chris told him with a smile, holding his hand out for another shake. But just as N reached out, the limo suddenly accelerated onward into the city, the construction crew finally allowing them to move as N stood with his hand still out, blinking for a moment before showing a smile and raising it to wave them goodbye instead.

"W... Wait!! Leaving Chris!! Stop limo!!" Gardevoir panicked, quickly feeling around the limo for a door only to suddenly grab Chris himself, freezing with a gasp as she felt his face all over. "No... You're... Here... But... Huh...?" she asked, sitting next to him and feeling him once again bewildered. "Uhh... Don't ask me... I don't even know what you're freaking out about..." he responded, holding her hands and gently pulling them away as she blinked. "Sensed... You... Falling further and further away... Behind limo... But still sense you here... What did you do...? How... In two places...?" she asked, only for Chris to look at Gardevoir as if she were losing it. "I think using your telepathy so much, especially between you and Servine is getting to you... Why not stop for a while and rest?" he suggested, Gardevoir scratching her head with a nod. "No way! You can't be seri...!!" Servine shout before suddenly making sounds in her normal tongue, slumping and crossing her arms with a frustrated "hrmph!!" as Gardevoir rest along the seats, laying her head on Chris's lap causing him to blush embarrassed. "Ah... Ha ha... O... Okay..." he responded, rubbing her on the head as she continued showing a confused look on her face. "Two... Chris..." she muttered. Suddenly rolling down the window in the front of the limo, Gerald looked at them through his mirror, laughing nervously. "Terribly sorry... I had a few choice words to say I'd rather you not heard back there when we ran into the construction site. I hope you don't think it too rude of me." he told the three, Chris blinking at him in surprise. "Oh... That's okay. We didn't even notice you put your window up..." he told Gerald, causing him to jolt and sulk. Quickly waving his hands, Chris apologized as they made their way through the city, Gardevoir dozing off into a deep sleep on Chris's lap along the way, with Servine soon finding herself laying along Chris's shoulders.

Looking down at Gardevoir, it was a perfect chance to have a conversation with Chris... Problem was, without Gardevoir using her abilities, she couldn't say a word he could understand... Frustrated by this, she maintained a scowl along the ride as her tail swished in irritation, brushing and swatting Chris along the side of his face causing him to show a look of irritation himself, biting his lip and letting out a sigh as he continued rubbing Gardevoir on the head. "Oy oy... Could you calm down just a little?" he asked, suddenly pinching the leaf on her tail to restrict its movement. Jolting, Servine suddenly flushed wide eyed as if she had been pinched somewhere... Inappropriate... And next thing Chris knew she let out a scream in his ear, also waking Gardevoir in the process causing her to cover her own ears as Servine jumped away and clutched her tail, giving Chris an irritated and flushed expression as she pet her leaf while shuddering. "Too noisyyyy..." Gardevoir groaned, sitting up and rubbing her eyes as Chris dug in his ear, still ringing from Servines scream. "G... Geez... What?! So... Your leaf is like Gardevoirs horn or something...?" he asked, causing Servine to shake her head rapidly. "Sh... Shut up!! Never suddenly touch a lady like that!! Don't be like Gerald!!" Servine shout back, both she and Chris blinking surprised now that she was able to speak again, thanks to Gardevoir being awake as Gerald laughed nervously, feeling and looking as though he just had a nail hammered into his head. "O... Oh... You can talk again too... Gonna have to get used to how this works..." Chris replied, scratching his head confused as Servine looked away with her nose up. Groaning with a bit of sweat on his face, Chris reached out and rubbed Servine along her back, causing her to gasp and flush after having just been touched on her tail as she arched slightly. "S... Sorry about that... I don't know where you and Gardevoirs... Uhh... No touch areas are..." he told her as Servine suddenly pushed his hand away, trying to shake off her feelings as she laughed nervously. "Q... Quite alright... No need to fret!!" she told him, waving her hand as she faced away, rubbing her tail again with a smile. Suddenly, she faced down and raised her tail in his direction, poking her fingers shyly. "Y... You can touch it... Just... Not without p... Permission... So p... Please do..." she told him with a blush, smiling shyly as Chris tilt his head confused. "Err... O... Okay... If it makes you happy..." he responded, suddenly rubbing her tail for her and giving her leaf a massage between his fingers with a nervous smile as Servine cooed and shuddered. "That's... L... Lovely..." she muttered. The more he pet her and massaged her leaf, the more Servine found herself growing weak at the knees, until she stumbled back and landed against Chris's side, sitting with a dazed smile on her face and giggling awkwardly.

"...Can read thoughts. Servine... Thinking naughty things... Servine... Dirty..." Gardevoir mocked, still irritated from being woken up by her scream just as she had started sleeping comfortably, showing a sly smirk having given Servine away. "B... Be quiet!! I was merely enjoying a moment of my own was all!!" she snapped, gritting her teeth at Gardevoir only to look up at Chris and face away with her head down. "...You always seem to get attention from him. Even now you were laying all over him and he was just sitting there rubbing your head right in front of me... I just want to enjoy the same things you do... At least sometimes you know... Its not as easy for me... I can't even talk to him on my own without help..." she told the two, sitting with a slump in her posture as Chris gave her a guilty look, Gardevoir facing away and scratching her cheek silently. "I thought I was doing a pretty good job treating you two equally... I didn't mean to make you feel left out. I'm sorry..." he told Servine, looking down as Gardevoir jolt wide eyed, picking up on his emotions and quickly waving her hands. "D... Don't worry about that!! Just have good time! First day out of hospital!" she reminded him, clearing her throat loudly towards Servine, causing her to look at Chris and quickly wave her hands as well. "Q... Quite right!! Never you mind my sulking!! I... I apologize..." she laughed nervously as Chris looked at the two and sighed, showing a slight smile before suddenly rubbing them both on the head.

"I'm sorry you two... I promise I'll do a better job making sure the both of you feel equally appreciated. I didn't mean to make either of you jealous towards the other... Rest assured, you're both just as important to me!" he assured them, grinning and giving Servine a thumbs up, causing her to blink at him wide eyed and blush in response before giving him a hug as Gardevoir sat on the other side of him, frozen by his touch and glowing before facing him as well. "...Always thinking of others. Always... Want everybody happy..." she thought to herself before giving him a hug as well with a smile, causing Chris to laugh and hold the two. Watching the three in his mirror, Gerald chuckled with a nod as they pulled up to one of the cities oriental restaurants, parking near the entrance before stepping out with a stretch. Helping the three out, Gardevoir suddenly let out a gasp once they put Chris in his wheelchair, facing away for a moment and tilting her head. "...Two Chris again..." she muttered, causing the others to blink at her confused. "What was that? Everything okay?" Chris asked, putting a hand on her shoulder making her quickly shake her head and nod. "Y... Yes... Everything fine. No worry." she smiled before they made their way towards the building. Facing back, Gardevoir couldn't shake the feeling of sensing another person like Chris nearby once again... Yet she ignored it nonetheless and went inside with the others...

"...Very interesting..." N said as he stood on a nearby building, his arms crossed and a smile on his face as a Pidgeot stood next to him, rubbing its cheek against his. "He reminds me a little of the other trainers I've come across... Back in Unova... And then there's that one with the Pikachu..." he said as he sat on the edge of the building. "Ha ha... I like him... Maybe it couldn't hurt to keep an eye on him for a little while... Been some time since I found someone worth taking an interest in! Would you mind helping me with that?" he asked the Pidgeot, getting a quick nod in response before it rubbed its cheek against his again. "Well then... Looks like Chris will have a kindred spirit watching over him... A least for a little while..." he chuckled with a warm smile as he saw the group sit at a window, talking and laughing together...

Pokemon - Tale Of The Guardian Master - CH 51
Pokemon - Tale Of The Guardian Master - CH 54
Previous Chapter - https://inkbunny.net/submissionview.php?id=866956#comme...

Next Chapter - Soon

A young man named Chris, now 23, who discovered he carries a curse placed on him by a Ninetails his grandfather saved long ago by grabbing its tail as it fell from a cliff, is to forever put others first before doing what he wishes in life, and has now finally set off on his own Pokemon journey, a little later in life than most, after dedicating his youth to care for his grandfather and the other elders in his village, part of the fate the Ninetails told his grandfather would befall Chris after his birth when the curse was placed.

Now that his grandfather has passed away and the elders have sent him on his way to live life as he should, his curse now strings him along as he walks the path of a Pokemon trainer, doing what he always dreamed while also, unknowingly, conveniently fulfilling his part of the Ninetails curse...

Now he has a stalker before his third Pokemon. XD

" “[…] You asked who I was right?[…]”

This popped up immediately in my mind.

I suppose N's case will be similar to Team Rocket, only he won't be a villain... Just watching in the distance to figure out what he thinks of Chris in the end, similar to Meloetta as well.

N never truly was a villian. More of an anti hero, since he never was truly malicious in his endeavors. Misguided maybe, thinking Pokemon were suffering under the hands of trainer and molded by Ghestis' ambitions.

Yep. now he just travels the world basically, researching the relationships between people and Pokemon all over I believe.

To my shame I missed out that season, had to look up what you mean… again.

Ha ha, yes. Recently Ash found himself followed by a Meloetta for some time who popped in occasionally. But back to TOTGM, you see, N won't have much importance in this series. Think of him as a special guest appearance from time to time when the moment calls for him to show up most.

Hopefully when he does show up from time to time, like in this chapter, I'll do his character justice enough for fans to appreciate an official character popping into an unofficial fan story now and then.
