He hears the faint jingling of drop-forged brass clattering against itself, and comes to investigate.

"Daaa-vid!" he hears, a slight singsong cadence in his name.  He breaks into a trot.  Oh shit, she is holding his leash.

"Hup!"  she commands, and he's immediately up on the table, a sturdy Ikea number with rounded-off edges and a varnished finish with a bit of sticktion to it.  With the exception of a few months back when she had taken him in to have his stance made obligately quadruped, that tone of voice, that command, and that leash meant only one thing - she was taking him out to do something she knew he was going to enjoy.  Well, as long as she had clothes on.  When she didn't, there wasn't much different in his assessment of the situation, except he knew they weren't going out before starting in on the fun.
