There was something similar in older Mario Kart games, though I haven't seen in since Mario Kart Wii. The Lightning Bolt. Granted, it's not as long lasting, but it's still a pain in the arse.

One time when I was playing Mario Kart, I was in a neck-to-neck tie for first with second place, only barely holding a lead over them. Then I heard it, the symphony of the Blue Shell. I slammed on my breaks, and just as they thought they had taken the lead...BOOM! XD

the blue shell was worse in mario kart 7, which it was set off it targeted the player that was first that moment so even if they go behind the second player they will get hit, it's just wrong

yeah probably not as much, but it was worst in that game then others i played it would hone in and take you when you least want it to i mean i've seen the red shell just hang behind me the longest time before nailing me like it's taunting and only way your safe from it is by an item behind you XP
