edit: the next page is gonna be a little late... my sleep pattern is fucked, and i only work effectively in the day, so i gotta fix this .___. i hopefully can get the next page done (colored) by about the 11th.
Unlike him, I am starting to doubt the people. I did even before as well, but now I do not understand what's their problem anymore, even. All we know is something about voodoo and hiding from the eyes of the lord. Which I am not exactly sure what they meant by that, but to go against the words of a priest ... wouldn't that be WORST in the eyes of the lord. They are not only hiding from whatever lord they were talking about ... they are going against one of his servants and don't listen to his teachings. Maybe I am missing something in religion ... at least I think priests are kind of servants to whatever lord they worship. Religion is weird, quite a lot of the times.
P.S. Something just occurred to me, when I was making this post. Do we even KNOW the name of the father(the priest, not the real one)? Or is his name ACTUALLY "Father"? I don't recall it being mentioned before and even went back a to skim the previous pages, but I couldn't find it(just Papa to Kazooie, but I doubt that's it either). Have I missed it somewhere or are we(and maybe the town's folks) not supposed to know and/or care about it?

they are. and they still go to his services. the townspeople have great respect for father dernan even if they don't appreciate what he's done for kazooie. i wanted that to be shown mostly in how they tolerate him taking care of her even though they really do think of her as a literal child of the devil. or, well, some people do and are keeping the prejudice in place. i'm not sure if that comes across... i will try to explain better in the next couple of pages.

Looks like Father Dernan's faith has a serious fracture. Many times in life the best lesson is a hard lesson in humility. When those townspeople get put in their place and shown how hateful, prideful, and bitter they are everyone will be better off.

Well he has serious reason to doubt him at the moment. Just look at everything that has happened to them. Everyone stopped donating, they ostracized Kazooie, and their lives have been fairly miserable since Father adopted Kazooie.

this reminds me of the book the chrysalis, has that super-religious aspect of it, and anyone who opposes is ridiculed and outcasted~ Let's hope the ending is as good XP

So far Falooie Is willing to go against the common perception and support Kazooie, and is either able to balance her faith with science, or is atheist but remains respectful of priests and other religious people. Either way I like her.

this is similar to early 1900s united states, when urbanization was starting to pick up. the schoolteacher, falooie, is a sign this rural town is slowly, slowly changing from a traditionalist mindset to a free-thought mindset (or, at least, balancing with a newer generation that knows more about technology and the outside world). you can even see it in dernan, how he's regretting spending his whole life here up to this point because he thought he had a mission instead of giving kazooie more opportunities elsewhere--which, he now realizes, was his true mission.
i believe there will be more explanation as to the history of this society as a whole a little later on in the comic.

Well, here goes, hope this doesn't ruffle too many/much feathers/fur/scales, it's just an educated opinion.
Many different religions of the world. Many times people have doubted their higher power and not been punished, only to be rewarded by they're faith. A lot of people are not religious, I am one of them, but I have taken it upon myself to go to many churches of many religions and learn what each one can offer. It's not much, in fact nearly all the churches based in monotheism are the same, and very few of them are much more occult than anyone would care to admit. Many times I've listened to pastors tell what 'they think' the bible and God says to them, when in fact they should be teaching people simply to read the bible themselves and figure out its meanings for themselves, because the 'word of God' can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the individual.
Pastors shouldn't be trying to push 'their' ideals upon the masses, but do what I feel Father is doing, trying to encourage 'the flock' to open their hearts and accept others no matter what. Earlier in the comic, Father yelled at the people for abandoning a baby. Even if a baby is conceived in sin or born from/in sin, a baby is inherently innocent, it cannot and does not a thing that could be considered sinful in the eyes of any Lord, yet these people turn not only a blind eye upon a helpless baby, but a blind faith as well.

Reminds me of the civil rights era. My dad constantly was harassed and pushed around for being a white supporter of civil rights in Texas. It makes me so angry at how prejudice and truly evil people can be, even when they aren't trying to.
I'm really loving this story guys! Keep it up!
