"Paying tribute"
Even a fish deity can have some air-breathing followers, and this sea monk is one of them. Despite his breath hold not being far above average for someone who lives in the ocean, he dedicates himself to her all the same, and is actually quite well respected. He hopes that, some day, his goddess will bless him with some gills of his own, but he'd understand if that wasn't possible for whatever reason. You know, she looks kind of familiar...
According to Wikipedia (Cryptid Wiki has VERY little on this guy): The sea monk was seen exactly once, having been caught or found in 1546 off the coast of Zealand (Yes, not New Zealand), and was only given its name in 1558. It was also called a monk fish for a while. There seems to be no information beyond that and its appearance, which looked like a human monk with a black head wearing a habit, hence its name.
