TRICK: Magus - Chrono Trigger
TREAT: Mumbo Jumbo - Banjo-Kazooie
There are countless tales of heroes being turned into fantastical creatures. Either blessing or boon these types of stories are as old as time itself and I easily could've pulled from any myriad of examples...but because I'm an uncultured swine who abandoned great works of literature in favor of video games since I was but a child these are the two examples you're getting!
While Chrono Trigger remains one of my favorite games of all time I don't actually have much art from it. And even less than that is my care for the character of Magus-(A cardinal sin, I know) Despite that I cannot deny that sheer aura he exudes through most of the game. It's a presence I have rarely seen matched and I don't care much for him as a character, as a villain he hold a strong place in my heart. He is also directly responsible for my favorite character in the game or any other for that matter, so that has to account for something!
Directly following that, I don't think it's a shock to anyone that Banjo-Kazooie is one of my favorite games. Gruntilda herself has featured multiple times in these countdowns alone and while the old hag is my favorite video game villain of all time, I have sadly allowed this love to overshadow the game's other magical icon -- Mumbo Jumbo, who is fantastic in his own right and dare I say has a presence that can rival ole' Grunty's at times. Sure, he may not always provide the greatest of transformations, but Mumbo is still 'best shaman in game' and how could I not include a funky little witch doctor with a skull head who turns you into a pumpkin? It doesn't get much more Halloweeny than that!
