---FINAL FIVE---
no.5 - "A mask that brings out the wearer's darkest traits"
TRICK: Big Head - The Mask
TREAT: Rick Taylor - Splatterhouse
Everything wears a mask. Sometimes multiple masks. There are masks that we like and masks we don't. The characters here wear masks literally and figuratively and not all of those masks are ones people like. I personally happen to like some of the masks that others don't. There's nothing wrong with that-(despite what the internet might rave about)-I just have an interesting relationship with these that I find others generally don't enjoy and after all, what's the point of Halloween if you don't have a mask that shocks people?
When it comes to the Mask itself, I think it goes without saying that everyone prefers, or are far more acquainted with the Jim Carrey mask. And while that's great, I far more prefer the mask of the comics...or at the very least the first three comic arcs and even by the third story it's stating to get stale and marred by the far more sanitized mask that Carrey gave the character. (If one can call that 'sanitized')
Similarly, in the pantheon of retro horror-based video games that I am enamored with, I have strangely never been into Splatterhouse. I don't know why, it's just never gripped me...save for the admittedly contentious mask that the series donned in 2010. I know, I know. Call it my lack of nostalgia goggles, but I liked it. It wasn't perfect and it's marred by ending on a cliffhanger, but it gave me all the Sam Raimi-esque horror violence I wanted so I was happy.
So which mask do you prefer?
