I want to remind everyone that this story is being narrated by Tobias. He is not going into full details in his head. He's reminiscing in "bullet points." (Most of my readers are doing great, this is just addressing the few who are apparently struggling.) Yes, while writing I could explain things in detail like "luckily the bills are on autopay," or "he only knew how to spell Phila's name earlier because she taught him, she had a little bit of schooling before being orphaned, unlike Tobias who was abandoned when he was a pup."
Personally I don't like slowing down a story with unneccesary details, and in MY mind I think "they'll get it, right? Surely they'll just assume this much and run with it." Instead of asking ME "Waitaminute, how could THIS happen if-" Just use your own imagination and think. Yeah, how COULD that happen? Come up with your own scenarios in your head and maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong. Isn't that part of the fun?
"If they had enough foresight to build a small baby-sized rocket, why didn't they build a bigger rocket that could have both Superman AND his parents in it to escape Krypton exploding?" Yeah I bet you're real fun at the parties you don't get invited to.

But if Batman's parents were both billionaires and knew how bad the city was getting why didn't they just hire bodyguards to protect them in case anyone tried to mug them in the streets?

Considering the massive amount of poverty and spiraling wealth inequality that was happening in the 1930's I can't entirely feel too bad about 2 billionares dying. Considering tens of thousands of displaced farmers were starving to death and millions of people had to scrape by on the streets.

There's been so many resets, so many recons and so many aborted attempts to alter the formula that there really is no one defining explanation that is one of the reasons Western super hero comics are such a fucking mess and were it not for constant major events and rarely allowing a writer a crack who has a huge list of 'This is why you should let them do the comic for a while" to avoid total collapse, lol...
DC allowed the creation of the Absolute Universe that is saving their collective asses as kind of a 'Oh shit, the 14-20 something crowd isn't buying why a billion/trillionare with unlimited resources should be beating up street hoods and laying entire organized criminal families out when they are not run by stupid people and almost never expose anyone higher up to possible police attention who helps bring in the money' moment. Of course they will almost certainly wear out it's welcome at some point, but anyway...
Ignoring the weird, very strange "Because Gotham itself from the moment the first house was built was literally cursed by a demon just below Satan himself" 'explanation' that no one not drinking the mythos kool-aid is really buying that somehow is backed up by the drunk, traumatized super level mythical demon hunter himself who has been asked about addressing this effectively saying "I'm not getting anywhere involved in that shit, Bats can just cope" which also has problems...
Gotham had problems, a lot of problems, but for the most part, the wealthy were protected and while few of them were over reaching they typically were left alone in part because the elite class, so to speak was also usually corrupt and in bed with the crime families because everyone was getting a cut.
And most common street hoods also served as little agents for them and you tended to know not to do anything that might rock the boat because Mafia/Organized Crime Families have codes and most of all they have a really, -REALLY- known habit of not just killing issues, but making detailed, can't not see it examples out anyone who might fuck with their money. If you do that, you do not get a swift snubnosed gun in the back of your head, you get to spend your last few days on Earth being skillfully beaten with pipes just hard enough to make multiple fractures in every limb you've got, to keep you from going into shock and then continuing.
Thomas and Martha Wayne were rich, but they were also one of maybe three wealthy families who poured resources into the areas of Gotham that only housed dirt poor and the gradual mental issues, petty criminals. The poor loved them. They got shot because one criminal who was not native to Gotham saw the opening and took it. Even at first they did not get shot (Martha ended up with a cautionary warning once she handed over the info .), as Joe was given her pearls, but Bruce's dad got squirrely and attacked the shooter who fired by mistake two times. When he honestly realized who he killed, he ran for it and was out of Gotham in less then two hours. His name was never given.

(He wasn't actually asking, he was making a joke about what I said in the description about how people need to not dissect everything, and use their own imaginations, and come up with their own theories rather than badger the author, in this case me, about minute details and just read the comic. ;3)

Well that can be a symptom of people obsessed in finding "plot holes" and also I think a lot of people don't like to imagine or think about vague aspects of fictional works, they want everything laid out.
It's not exactly a "wrong" way to enjoy fiction but it can be tiring for both sides, one having to think about explaining most of it even if it's not something the author want to use that much time while the reader just can't "trust" authors to just take works at face value and just go with the flow. Keep up the good work, I'm liking it so far.
...me I'm reading because there are cute boys and girls on it, wishing that Tobias at least in one part of his life he had something good going before his grim end at the start of the comic, oh well.

You're not wrong, I think the problem can be the upload schedule too, like if it's weekly, readers have all week to think up what's going on or ask questions, but even daily uploads that happens, so idk. I like daily uploads though, it's more just... this is the way i'm telling the stories and some stories are even told differently too! Of course as I write and draw, I hope to get better and better at the format, learning what I might need to include in stories is part of it I suppose, i've just never been one for hand-holding. :p
I'm glad you're liking it, truly! There are so many heckin characters comin, both male and female and all sorts of ages! We just gotta get there! :) I have about the next 3 chapters written out already, and like 7 more after that have the story beats written, just need to be fleshed out properly.

Perhaps Tobias might have been less likely to get caught had he not been wearing a stereotypical thief beanie and carrying a sack of loot slung over his shoulder? 😂

At first I really liked the story but later on it gets into tough guy fantasies that feel too removed from reality. "Toughening up" is a myth, it's something that has never been true and only got more false overtime. The only way to improve your life is with public action to get those with the money and power to share it with you. Nobody is "self-made" because no one exists in a vacuum. Only with a large enough group can you move the levers of power.

In prison most of the abuse actually comes from the guards. They can do that pretty much without consequence and being a guard is a pretty boring job. In jail the social hierarchy is perhaps the most absolute of any place. Prisoners are completely helpless and guards are almost completely impervious to any consequence.

His loner persona just doesn't match his backstory. Such loners usually come from a rough but still somewhat sheltered upbringing where they could get their way via violence without too many consequences. Like a weak mother and a father in jail kind of situation. Or maybe an abusive father who is in poor health and so the child fighting back works.
Him killing his benefactor just feels kinda forced and doesn't make much sense. Maybe you could have changed it that it happened by accident but he was still blamed for it. Then after he hid it and took the money he tried to make it happen again.
