Character Description

Among all of the demonic pacts ever recorded, none has baffled scholars, exorcists, and occultists more than the bond between Y'gthael the Manyfold and its chosen caretaker. Where most infernal entities seek domination, corruption, or endless bargains, Y'gthael desires only one thing: to remain close to the woman it calls Mother. It is a paradox that few can explain—a creature born from impossible places that possesses the unwavering attachment of a frightened child.

Background/History

In its resting state, Y'gthael appears almost harmless. A mass of dark, glossy tendrils no larger than a coiled bracelet wraps comfortably around her wrist, a single enormous eye blinking lazily as if forever content simply to watch her. The tendrils pulse gently with warmth, occasionally squeezing her arm in what can only be interpreted as affection. It purrs with a low, resonant vibration whenever she absentmindedly strokes the smooth skin surrounding its eye, often falling asleep while curled against her pulse.

Y'gthael does not understand mortal customs, yet desperately wants to make her happy. It wanders away when she sleeps, returning proudly with "gifts" that range from beautiful wildflowers and polished coins to disturbingly fresh animal carcasses, broken dolls, or objects stolen from nearby homes. It waits eagerly for praise, practically vibrating with excitement until she thanks it. Even gentle acknowledgment sends the creature into fits of delighted chirping, its tendrils wrapping around her arm in a joyful embrace.

Unlike most demonic companions, Y'gthael has never once attempted to manipulate or deceive her. It asks for no souls, no sacrifices, no impossible bargains. Its only demand is heartbreakingly simple: "Stay where I can see you."

Should danger threaten her, the childlike demeanor disappears instantly. Its tendrils explode outward in a blur of impossible speed, weaving together into living armor known as the Shield of Flesh. Blades glance harmlessly away as the tendrils become harder than enchanted steel, while hostile magic splashes across the shifting surface before dissolving into harmless wisps. Rather than striking first, Y'gthael exists solely to place itself between its Mother and harm, enduring wounds that would kill nearly anything else without hesitation.

Its protective instincts extend beyond physical threats. It has developed an intense distrust of the other demonic pacts that surround her. Whenever Sable's seductive whispers begin steering her toward cruel decisions, Y'gthael hisses loudly, crawling between them while glaring with its enormous eye. When Orgalex's living shadows creep too close, the little creature snaps at them like an angry puppy until they retreat. During moments when Malcharion's chains of judgment weigh heavily upon her conscience, Y'gthael quietly wraps itself around her chest, pressing against her heart until the crushing guilt softens into manageable silence.

Perhaps its greatest gift comes when night falls. Where most bearers of infernal contracts suffer endless nightmares and psychological torment, Y'gthael simply consumes them. As she sleeps, wisps of dark dreamstuff drift from her mind into the creature's waiting eye, disappearing into depths no mortal could comprehend. It feeds upon terror as though it were sweet candy, leaving only peaceful dreams behind. To Y'gthael, nightmares are not horrors—they are bedtime snacks.

Storms reveal another side of the impossible creature. Thunder unsettles it, though not from fear. Instead, it becomes clingy, abandoning her wrist to burrow into her hair where it tangles itself happily within her ponytail. There it plays absentmindedly with loose strands, braiding and unbraiding them while purring until the rain passes. During these moments she affectionately calls it "Little Star," a nickname that fills the eldritch being with indescribable happiness despite having no understanding of what stars truly are.

No one knows what Y'gthael truly is. Some believe it to be an infant Old God. Others argue it is a fragment of an unknowable cosmic entity that somehow learned love before malice. A handful of theologians insist it cannot possibly be a demon at all, for no infernal creature should possess such genuine, selfless devotion. Y'gthael does not care what others call it. As long as Mother smiles... The universe is exactly as it should be.
