Character Sheet for Shax
Character Description
Shax is a demonic heron and a Grand Marquis of the Goetia family in Hell. Seemingly always smiling, the willowy bird is an important underworld power broker and information dealer who runs a crew of Sinner Demons that will infiltrate organizations, break into secure buildings and act as honeypots to discover secrets and steal important objects for anyone who is willing to pay.
Personality
He is neurodivergent; it's not particularly severe but he does struggle to navigate social interactions and often emotes at an inappropriately boisterous level (whether positively or negatively). He's overly attached to his "crew" of helpers due to attachment issues and loneliness from his upbringing. While he is in fact in an arranged marriage like most of the Goetia, it's at least an amicable one because his wife is quite understanding and kind (and it's a somewhat open marriage since Shax has a very low sex drive).
Obviously, though, this last detail is different in the hyper canon for him. |3c
Likes/Dislikes
He's infatuated with learning about history, culture, and collecting artifacts. His least favorite thing is having to deal with his family. He can barely stand many of them, even for brief and politely teeth-gritted interactions.
Background/History
As a Great Marquis of the Ars Goetia, Shax is an information broker for the underbelly of Hell's higher society, taking special pleasure in blackmailing and theft since he sees his position as being allowed to act out against terrible people and loathed family members as long as he doesn't get caught. He's got some freedom to pick and choose his clients, although he's not allowed to say no if a higher-up in the family (such as Paimon) or one of the Seven Deadly Sins were to order him to do a job. Thus, he does his best to choose clients whose chosen targets are truly wicked and deserving of being brought down.
On paper, he has a similar station as Andrealphus, but he's a black sheep among the Goetia; his job is tacitly allowed as a legitimate domain because a family full of that much politicking and backstabbing needs a dedicated info broker and gossip gatherer yet in exchange for significant unofficial power he's considered a social pariah in public by nearly everyone who matters. It doesn't make too much difference to Shax because he was already treated very poorly as a young hatchling for being neurodivergent, and understandably he quite dislikes all the rest of his family (with only a few exceptions) as a result. He takes special pleasure in the look on their faces when he shows up uninvited to parties knowing they know he's about to pull them aside and inform them of the hideously embarrassing little secret of theirs he was just hired to find out.
Relatives/Family
Shax is a member of the Goetia, which means he is indeed related in some capacity to Stolas, Paimon, Vassago and the others (whether this is through actual blood relations or by marriage, I'm not sure since the show is not terribly specific). He has no children at the moment but is in an arranged marriage to a silkie chicken Goetia named Vivian. He does consider his crew to be more or less family, whether or not they see it that way themselves - especially his right-hand man Rickenbacker.
World/Setting
it's the Hellaverse. If you watch Helluva Boss, you know what the deal is.
The only significant difference in my imagining is that Sinner Demons can freely move between any of the rings of Hell.
Body
Shax is around eleven feet tall, more or less, slightly tall even by Goetian standards (although that's a similar height as Stolas, imo), exaggerated further by his long heron neck. He has white feathers with dark blue-gray undermarkings and huge tailfeathers (much larger than a heron's ought to be) that basically drag on the floor behind him like a bridal train.
Clothing
He's fond of bohemian fashion and considers himself a dandy; many Goetia will peacock around as a means to show off and that's perhaps one of the few family habits he's picked up and genuinely enjoys for himself.
His casual outfits vary wildly, but his "formal" outfit, seen on the right, is an old-fashioned blue jacket that is of a style from the early 1800s. He likes to pair it with large cravats and brooches since he's slightly self-conscious about the length of his neck.
Accessories
He wears ornate metal eyeglasses with a chain that he often uses to show off little charms that dangle from it.
