The egg-shaped rabbit in the red mask in the top row was actually the first character I made for this series, before even the fennec fox tribeswoman featured in the proof-of-concept drawing.
My initial idea for this series was sort of Pikmin situation where a tribe of tiny masked rabbits that number in the hundreds fought against giant creatures. I created the fennec fox tribeswoman to basically be their Olimar, ordering them around and keeping them in line. I was even considering changing the tribeswoman's species from a fennec fox to a rabbit and making the tribesmen her children, as a way to jokingly justify why so many of the tribesmen exist. But that idea didn't sit right with me and brought up way too many questions and negative implications, so I decided against it.
I then decided to make the fennec fox a member of a tribe of individuals where no two look alike, and that's when I came up with the lanky rabbit with in the blue mask in the middle of the top row. I gave him gold bracers as a way to keep track of his hands and arms, and after that I came up with the one next to him in the orange mask. From him onwards, I started getting a little wilder with how the characters are proportioned and how big and wide their masks are, which is what you see in the second row.
Once I got to the third row, I pretty much found the style I wish to draw these tribesmen in. Overall, it's much more unusual than what I'm used to, but I'm enjoying it so far and we'll see what I can do for the tribeswomen next.
