This is a preliminary sketch for a new series concept I've had in the back of my mind for the past two months or so. This mainly stemmed from a desire to have a central idea, like Geometria, into which I could pour all my imagination. Since returning from my hiatus, I've produced numerous works. And, while I'm pleased with my own growth so far, one thing I've always been dissatisfied with about my work is its lack of focus. Up until now, I've been throwing things at the wall to see what sticks, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, having done this for so long made me realize how long it'd been since I'd had my own fictional world.
I consider Geometria to be the first series I've created that's achieved true success. One day in 2020, I suddenly got the idea to sketch a little king and with a towering concubine, and I gave them both hammer-shaped heads. And from that silly sketch, a wonderful world was born, one that I spent many years building and cherishing every single moment of the process. However, while Geometria has almost limitless potential and could last for many, many years, I think six years of it is enough. At last, the time has come for me to leave King Leib and his Land of Shapes behind and see what other world I can create. And what you've seen above is the beginning of that new world.
I came up with Geometria when I was still a university student, a time when I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do with my life. And Geometria, to a greater or lesser extent, reflects my state of mind at that time: While showing promise and generally achieving success, it's immature and lacks cohesion. But now I've long since graduated from college and gained a fair amount of life experience, I want this new series to be a reflection of that.
First and foremost, it'll be more grounded in reality. Rather than being set in an abstract realm existing in another dimension, the setting is simply the African continent. Of course, fantastical characters will still exist and surreal things will still happen, but I've recently realized the fictional worlds I like best are simply "the real world but with a twist", as I feel like they're much more poignant and relatable. But, for the sake of keeping this description from being too long, that's all I'm going to say on the matter. I really like how this picture turned out, and I do believe I will enjoy exploring this whole new world of my creation.
