Recently, I’ve been attempting to create a color pencil-styled brush in GIMP, the main reason being so I can more accurately emulate the style used in the Digi-Rugrats comic, which was draw with real colored pencils. I could try drawing and coloring on actual paper and scanning it, but it feels restrictive without the tools GIMP has. Other people have recommended I use a different art software, but I don’t use a tablet and rely on GIMP’s path tool for drawing, so if those other programs don’t have something like that, then it’s out of the question.
Sadly, my attempts at making such a brush has had poor results, as seen here. Perhaps it’s because I fill it in too much? It’s more notable on certain colors, that’s for sure. I followed a tutorial to try and recreate a certain brush they used and while it does have some characteristics of a color pencil, it’s still a very far cry from the style used by Digi-Rugrats. Suggestions on how to emulate the style or produce colored pencil style brushes are very welcome.
So this pic was something I had in mind for a short while. It’s inspired by a segment in the cartoon opening of the 1964 film “A Shot in the Dark”. I was originally going to draw or commission it with Tacki or one of his Maerians in this position, but chose to do it with one of my characters instead.
Nixie had sent Leon and Parker into a non-violent fantasy RPG land for fun and to teach them to work together. Sadly, at one point the brothers split up, possibly because Parker was being too bossy again. Following his last foray into a Fantasy Adventure with Discord, Spike, and Big Mac, Parker decided not to be a Samurai again due to the fact he may once again find himself in a skimpy fundoshi. Instead, he became a knight, complete with sword, shield, armor and chainmail diaper cover.
Poor Parker would soon run afoul of fate once again however. Parker came across a big camp of bandits and, letting his ego take over, attempted to take down the entire camp by himself. Though he did take down a large number of bandits, he was eventually overwhelmed and knocked out. Upon waking up, the camp was gone, as well as everything he owned, including the diaper that previously covered his scaled behind!
So now our little nekkid draggy was in quite a predicament. Parker managed to fashion a makeshift diaper out of leaves, though this was soon devoured by an insect swarm he tried to fight. He found a small homestead and tried to swipe one of their sheets hung out to dry, but was spotted and chased off by an angry housewife. He eventually came across a wrecked caravan, which was mostly looted, but found an empty barrel that he could use to hide his nudity.
He then made his way into a nearby town, enduing the mocking from various pedestrians, in hopes of finding anyone who could provide him with something to cover himself properly so he could pursue the bandits who stripped him. Unfortunately, he wandered into a rough part of town and this was also an RPG with firearms (not violent, just decreases your HP if you get shot) and some thugs make quick work of Parker’s barrel and the leaf he used to cover his crotch. Hopefully his stealth skill is decent because he’s gonna be wanted for indecent exposure.
Visual Description:
One the leftmost Panel, Parker (a baby dragon with midnight blue scales, indigo colored belly and undertail, with a three-proned fin on each cheek (same color as his belly) and a crescent shaped fin on the top of his head) stands there while holding up a barrel around himself with an angry expression. The background is two buildings with an alleyway between them and a tiled stone ground.
On the second panel, a bullet rips through the barrel, shattering it and exposing Parker’s lower half, revealing him to be nude except for a leaf in front of his crotch. Parker is shocked by the act.
On the third panel, another bullet shoots through the lead in front of Parker’s crotch, throwing it off and Parker covers his crotch with his hands while panicked and blushing.
