For it's 20th year, I've started a project to illustrate every (major) chapter in the GeneX series! (sfw only)
It's finally time for GeneX - Knuckles the Echidna! I'll go over each pic chapter by chapter and briefly explain them. Or you could read the fanfic. I've got pools for the stories, and bigger stories have been collected into arcs as well, like this arc here: https://inkbunny.net/s/2863096
Ch. 31 - Eggman and Col. Gunner collaborated on a robot: Techno Fera! Sonic battles the robot while trying to discover what became of the missing President. (Yeah, lots of plot details are going to be lost if you just go by the pictures and don't read the story.)
Ch. 32 (two images) - Sonic finds the fake president, who is soon exposed as Loskeletor. He attempted to activate a doomsday weapon invented by GUN's Dr. Nammad. The Darkseeker arrives on the scene, and Nammad hands over his weapon, Project GXterminate, betraying humanity in exchange for protection from the Covenant of Despair. (I wanted to do a pic of Nammad and Darkseeker shaking hands but it wasn't working out so I just did the Darkseeker by himself.)
Ch. 33 - At Troblusk Plateau, Eddie the hyena and Anubis the jackal hunt down Shadow Chaos. I can't really depict Shadow Chaos, but we can imagine that the creature randomly added to the background is Shadow Chaos in a tiny form for sneaking around. Doesn't work, as the Despair Agents capture him. (It?)
Ch. 34 (first image) - Dark Punchy battles Illusi and the Deathbringer on Troblusk Plateau. The Despair Seal trapped Punchy in dark form, but he fled to the plateau hoping to avoid hurting anyone. These group pictures tend not to go well, and I gave up with a vaguely birdlike entity to play the role of the Deathbringer (but yeah, looks nothing like her... it? I used to write "it" to conceal who the Deathbringer was.)
Ch. 34 (second image) - Anubis captures Rainbow while Punchy is too weak from the battle to stop him. Another not so great generation; Anubis keeps ending up with random marks on his forehead, and it was hard to get him carrying Rainbow in any fashion, let alone one that would convey "kidnapping." So I once again settled for something that was close enough...
Ch. 35 (first image) - In the ancient past, a "hero" named Howler promises to rid the survivors of the Knuckles tribe of Shadow Chaos. Tikal and Radia help him track down Chaos Relics for this task, and he obtains the Chaos Tailbands. Surely nothing bad will happen...
Ch. 35 (second image) - Bucky tells a "voice in his head" more of his backstory, explaining how Hope became his assistant, and together they planned the creation of 20 Experiments, their "children."
Ch. 36 (two images) - Kosmo's lucky charm is stolen in addition to Rainbow. He chases Despair's Agents down to the Hidden Ruins, where Kosmo's lucky charm is used to open a golden door while Ridley the coati uses the Chaos Wing to battle Kosmo and keep him busy. Beyond the gold door, the Darkseeker obtains the controller of the Chaos Relics, the Chaos Crystal.
Ch. 37 - Knuckles hitches a ride with Bucky on Shadow Arcangel, trying to get back on the hunt for the stolen Master Emerald. He has to help Bucky get the ship's defenses online, but along the way his group is discovered by the incomplete form of Losipher, who attacks them with his tentacles! ... You have no idea how hard it was to get a "sfw" tentacle image...
Ch. 38 - The Deathbringer was chasing the wrong echidna all along! She (it) attacks Knuckles now, who defends himself using the Chaos Gauntlets to give him a fighting chance. Long story short, Eggman takes Bucky to Despair. Yeah, lots of details you're missing here...
Ch. 39 (first image) - A terrible blockade surrounds Demon Island as it hovers above Station Square. Eggman's fleet, GUN Warships stolen by Nammad, and other nasties aim to keep intruders off the island. I could not convey the dramatic moment in an image, but our heroes utilize any means of flight they have, working together to penetrate the blockade. Kosmo transforms into an eagle (pictured here) in order to attack some of the gun turrets on the enemy ships. (The Tornado, the Hurricane and the Arcangel were also involved.)
Ch. 39 (second image) - Illusi has one final battle with Punchy in the caves under Despair Castle. He uses spiky versions of his "Wrongo" creatures to attack the echidna.
Ch. 40 (last two images) - Fera overloads the Despair Seal with darkness in order to unleash Dark Punchy, but Dark Punchy won't obey her willingly. During the fight, he knocks the bangs out of her eye, and everyone present can see that her eye is both scarred and sewn shut. Dark Punchy gains the upper hand on Fera, hurling her down a deep chasm to her apparent death before Punchy can regain control of himself. Illusi is devastated; Fera was the one he was trying to protect from Punchy all along; his adopted daughter.
The final arc's images will hopefully come soon. Feel free to read up on the story in the meantime! (This has to be the toughest of my stories to adapt via Ai art... so far.)
