Darken and his friends had been attacking the hordes of the Evil God relentlessly. He was focused on killing as many enemies as he could. Thankfully, his abilities were handy. He was hurt but managed to keep his strength and dismiss the pain. He killed at least five foes, camouflaging himself with the help of his magical mist, charged into his dagger. It helped, though they were outnumbered ten to one. Physical confrontation was a lost cause by then, they couldn’t afford to lose any soldier and mercenary. They had to come up with a better plan once they could retreat after the first battle. The Duck King had been leading the charge and was satisfied in general with the outcome. Though, there was something concerning. “Some of our mages noted the paladin could harm the tower and figured she could be helpful.” One of his generals reported. “However, she was captured by some Evil God’s goons.” The Duck king had to think for a few minutes, while he planned what he could do about it. Having seen a wide variety of mercenaries, he remembered paladins could communicate via medallions bound with the essence of the Deity of Goodness. “Is there a paladin around? We need someone able to communicate with a paladin inside the tower”. A paladin rose his hand and approached. “I’m the only one here. All my friends were trapped. I’ve been trying to reach out, but the magical aura of evil is impossible to bypass.” “Is there some way you could communicate inside?” The paladin nodded hesitantly. “I have a spare medallion. If someone took it to the tower and planted it, it is possible for me to communicate inside. I need it as close as possible.” People around muttered. It was an impossible task. The tower was swarming by hundreds, even thousands of troops, camping outside the impressive building. Nobody was mad enough to attempt to set foot in the area inside the kilometer radius. It was suicidal. “I’ll do it.” Darken volunteered. He knew how to infiltrate, so the mission was perfect for his skills. “I just plant it then?” “Brother, are you sure? You can die instantly, and no one will rescue your body” The cleric commented alarmed by his comments. “We all die eventually. But I won’t die today. I’m made for this, just give me the medallion.” “Really? How can you be so sure?” Darken smirked smugly. “I have the right set of skills for this.” The priest handed the medallion to the black panther, even though he wasn’t reassured. “You’ll need still help to get beyond their camping site. Someone should escort you.” The Duck king acknowledged. “I can handle it myself, though I’m not sure if I’ll be able to arrive quickly. It’s a long run after all.” “Hey Darken, maybe we can help” Two of his friends volunteered to take him. Fortunately, they had recently acquired two flying magical artifacts. Darken would have to hang on while traversing the sky, because only one could sit on top of an artifact. This didn’t scare him at all. He wanted to help in some way, and glory was always something a hero should aim for. After some thought, he jumped right to the action. “Let’s go, no time to waste.” The magician and the archer swiftly took the panther to a spot about a kilometer away of the tower, where they were out of range of the enemy troops. They could see the sheer amount of people gathered under the Evil God’s Banner. Albeit impressive, Darken had a mission he needed to carry out. Once on the ground, he organized the plan. “I need a cover to infiltrate inside. Something that causes chaos would be perfect. Then is up to you if you decide to wait for me, because it will take some time for me to get to the base and return.” “It’s the least we can do” The magician replied. “Now go, we’ll give you a distraction to hide.” He had already spotted a giant cauldron that spewed a somber aura around. One supercharge should produce an explosion big enough to produce a big mayhem. Both made a quick dive and threw all the magic they could. After a few seconds, dozens of arrows flew in their direction, though they finally achieved their goal, as the cauldron burst in flames. Darken quickly camouflaged himself with the environment. He crept, sliding in between troops running aimlessly trying to control the provoked fire. His eyes and ears were wide open, as it would be an inexcusable mistake knowing the amount of people willing to slit his throat there and then. It was comparable to a city; filthy, dark and enormous in extension. There were women and children alongside warriors. It was a bizarre collage of scenes. However, he had to focus on the tower. The myriad of people around him made everything exponentially catastrophic. If his cover was exposed, he would be skinned alive, no doubt in his mind. He gleaned a piece of unattended armor he encountered. That could help him remain inconspicuous in the crowd. He took it and quickly put it on. He felt some weight off his shoulders. His objective was close enough, though he look over his head to make sure nobody was suspecting of him being an impostor. And there it was. The ominous tower stood in front of him, impressive. It had to be at least a few kilometers tall. This was from a foreign environment. The technology existing at that time could not explain how it was built. And frankly, he didn’t care. He just wanted to get the job done, get the hell out of there, and hope for a miracle. He removed dirt adjacent to the tower, buried the medallion, and ran as fast as he could without exposing himself. Again, he had to undo the path he already walked. It was still dangerous. If only one of the thousand people noticed him being an enemy, there wasn’t going to be any more glory, or fame, or women for him. The excruciating way back was as thrilling as the way in. Little had changed as people walked by, doing their usual business. He crept, keeping himself under the radar. The adrenaline rush exhilarated him, but he had to remain calm. For twenty minutes he traversed the crowded pathways, goons running amok. Once he arrived at the edge of town, he made sure no one followed him. He stripped the armor he had borrowed and ran through the mountains. Thankfully, his friends had been waiting; it would have been exhausting to hike back to their headquarters, and he might be still exposed to some danger. Now they could return to base and hope the plan work. Darken and their friends had done their part, would everyone else deliver?
