But nothing disquiets me more than watching him play Killing Floor. The bolt-action rifle becomes some kind of head-popping sentry turret in his hands, exploding cranial matter at a pace that gives me pause when he so much as blows a straw wrapper at me. I prefer the mk-23 for general purposes myself. All minor heads in one shot, and light enough to carry a crossbow to take out everything else in one or two shots. It's so nice being able to shoot myself out of situations that should kill me without a scratch. Sounds like it would be a fun competition to team up with him, and together we would shoot ALL THE HEADS (and see who got the most)

The Mk-23 is a lovely little pistol indeed. There's just something satisfying about the lever action though. By late game I've switched to MK-23 and Crossbow, like you though, or the battle rifle.

The lever action just doesn't shoot fast enough, I'll use it for the first wave but I dump it for any of the high power handguns ASAP. The faces I can shoot are typically limited only by my gun's rate of fire, and since a headshot kill is a headshot kill, better to go for the faster gun. I used to use the battle rifle, but for the power and ease of accuracy, it just isn't worth the cost when there's a nice mk23 and a crossbow to roll with.

That's good until you hit the high difficulties and need the stopping power of a rifle. The Mk-23 has some damage issues on Hell On Earth, or even Hard sometimes. Plus the Lever action, if you are a glitchy jerk like me, fires about like a machine gun any way.

True, I usually only play on Normal because I don't have a reliable team to play with for Hard. I typically shoot at pretty close to the cyclic rate of the gun, particularly during zed time, and THAT'S what kills the lever action for me. "I can see so many heads, but my gun isn't ready to fire yet again!" I'm also used to having to carry a team, against both smaller specimens and the big ones, which is why I need high fire rate headshot machines.
Unrelated, have you tried out the giant rifle for sharpshooters on the moon? If you jump and fire, you can recoil jump like nobody's business.
