This one inspired by watching my Fellow Children (tm) hit the slopes in back of the Cox’s house on the first big snow of the year (1/6/85).

I remember the sleds we had as kids in the 1960s before we moved to Florida.  They were made of wood and metal, and had runners with a wooden crossbar to steer them. They were Western Flyer brand. We had one that was an American Flyer.
You could either lay on them and steer with your hands, or sit on them and steer with your feet. And those would slide down a hill faster than a toboggan would.
