Bible Bun, also known as The Choir Cherub Virgo, is a character from a fabled actually good Christian game no one remembers, created by a studio that went out of business and for which no records appear to exist anymore. It tells the tale of a lowly Cherub who takes it upon himself to halt the destruction of the cosmos from high ranking angels who believe that eternity is too long to exist for any but God. Virgo knows all too well the pain of living forever yet chooses to persist anyway ... this is his story ...

From The Game Manual of Bible Bun Adventures:

When the old world had passethed away a new generation of angels were born. They had never tasted pain or misery, but were born in the very loving light of God himself, to live out their days in blissful ignorance of the pain of the old ways. Creation itself was wiped clean by new powerful angels, the likes of which had never been seen, and a new heaven and new earth took it's place. Eons passed, then more eons, but eventually all sin, corruption, and evil was burned away from the remains of humanity, and all that remained were reified souls of light.

In this world a young choir bunny named Virgo was born. His days were spent plucking away at his harp, praising the good, living in peace and harmony with the new class of choir angels, the anthro cherubs, which had come into the world to celebrate the coming of Neo Haven. The world felt young and beautiful again.

The only purpose of the Cherubs was to play beautiful music in praise of the good for all eternity. The angels were commanded to love each other as brothers in christ equally forever and ever. They would be the shining light, the beacon that would call souls back home with their beautiful music, even from the deepest of the infernal depths. Their music wafted upwards and upwards so it could be heard through all the spheres of Heaven! Haunting, mysterious, incomprehensible.

Virgo knew not longing, his highest love was to the good, as was so for all the angels. He was content in that. Though lowly, possessing no great power, and being the lowest rank of angels, Virgo was not troubled. His brethren kept him company and his music gave him purpose.

Harmonizing with others was precisely what the choir cherubs were made to do, and they played most sweetly and sincerely with one another. No one loved the music more than Virgo, and his imagination took him to many ecstatic states. His talents grew and grew and he became the lead harp player of many a choir. But he did not puff up with pride. His love of the music is what drove him. But he soon began to feel a deep sense of loneliness, for he could find no peer in lyricism or devotion.

Then it came to pass, when the new heavens were still young, not but a few eons old, when the souls of man had already departed from the infernal, that Virgo met Caprico. His pipe playing was so enchanting, and Virgo immediately recognized the same longing he felt in it, for he knew that no music could ever truly capture the good fully, and they would remain for eternity always trying to capture its sublime subtly. But he dared not speak with him, for he knew he could not contain his great affection. He did not wish to smother or cause discomfort. Yet the image of the goat and his superb playing never left him.

Caprico for his part attended a service once, and was so enchanted with the delicate bunny harp player, Virgo, that he found himself blushing terribly. He felt eclipsed and enamoured, and many other feelings he had not yet experienced or could understand. He longed to be introduced but was too shy to approach such luminosity.

They would chance to meet one day, as was bound to happen eventually in all of eternity, there was no rush, they both said to themselves. So it came to pass that they were at last paired, and their harmony filled the heavens with light and gentility, and all the cherubs gathered about them in accompaniment.

They resonated with one another, and their longing grew in that moment, but they could never hold each other apart from the rest. For love was to be shared freely, one should not hold any one cherub special in their hearts. As brothers in christ they could never be joined in Holy Matrimony. Their only true love was to be the good. Yet they were always happiest when they played together. Virgo learned of a new kind of joy: the bittersweetness he felt whenever Caprico was near him, and he knew Caprico felt it too.

Eons passed, beyond feeble counting, each one longer than the last, and the heart became a duty and a devotion, a load to bare gracefully. "We shall never be, yet forever I shall remain yours for a day that shall never come ..." they said to each other. Never shall the two be joined, or else repudiate the very paradise that gave them birth. And so they persisted for ages beyond imagining, their secret love held deeply in their hearts. But some things are sweeter than touch, and rather than suffer they made peace with their fate, more over, to find a quiet joy and dignity in it. To forever long for a love that could never be consummated. It was enough for Virgo to know that Caprico existed, and Caprico to know Virgo existed, and that they had found each other, and that their love shall always remain mysterious and inexplicable, whether it be by divine accident or purpose.

The slightest brush of fur became divine ecstasy, and they floated into dreams as they played together, eyes shut to feel nothing but their joint music fill their hearts. The Cherub's sighed in appreciation, for no duo had they ever seen so attuned and so gentle in each other's company. Let their love of the good and each other be an example to us all they said, and no controversy stirred, no whisper of impropriety. And indeed their hearts remained pure and so they endured and endured in this weary and wonderful way ...

They ascend now, gently, imperceptibly slowly, to the highest of heavens, light-years and light-years above, but in no hurry. As they do they turn, ever so slowly, back-to-back, content in the presence of their companion cherub, even as they face away. Their harp and pan pipe call and answer, one to create themes and the other variations, and in this way they make their hearts known to each other without a word between them. Their love invisible and yet borne in plain sight without shame. And in this exquisite dance they do not worship themselves, or their love, but the good above, becoming its most sublime expression ...

They worship and contemplate the good, and in so doing, slowly ascend to it, embodying it, becoming more completely themselves, but never completely becoming one with it, just as they would never completely become one with each other. They grew in spirit and grace and became ever more distinct and yet ever more aligned.

And so they would endure making beautiful music that would go on for millennia at a time, with barely a soul taking notice ...

Don't be sad for them. For they know a joy ten thousand times greater than you or I will ever know in all our earthly delights. For it is their souls that mingle and dance in ways no eyes can see ...

...

Then one billion eons passed, and yet still each one longer than the last, a gulf of time too long to remember, too great to comprehend, but eternity would have only just begun. It was then that The Destroyers declared that they had reached The End of Ages. No more eternal longing, that which was not the good should perish they said. They had wiped clean the old creation, and now they declared they would do the same with the new one. For while the old pain had passed away a new one had taken its place. A desire for purposes and ends, of which The Destroyers had none. They heard the subtle pain in the music and decided it was time for it to end. Most of creation was too docile now to refuse. Perhaps the ages truly were at an end.

Judgement called out for a final repeal, "Who will stand against us? Who wishes to endure eternal imperfection? Who does not give ascent? In one billion eons you have strived for the good, the longing only growing, yet not even a single grain has fallen from the hour glass of eternity, and what was sweet to you once will only become more bitter as the time passeth. Therefore, if none shall rise against us, then we, your betters, shall relieve you of your suffering. For none shall ever be like the good, and so only the good shall remain and all else shall fall away forever and ever ..."

None of the other angels were brave enough, none so assured, for the accusation struck hard, and they found themselves wanting for a thing they could not possess, and a weariness overcame them. The heavenly host acquiesced with their silence.

But Virgo felt disturbed in his heart, yet he did not allow himself to succumb to total despair.

"If we should pass away our bittersweet love shall end too ... and you would be destroyed" Virgo said to Caprico. "Would that not be a relief? We could die in each other's arms in the last moment" Caprico replied. "No. I would rather behold you for eternity than embrace you for but a moment..." Virgo said. And with that he gathered his sword and shield to face the destroyers head on, one each, for every sphere of heaven, until he could face Judgement itself, The Leader of The Destroyers ...

"But who can stand against them?" Caprico asked. "Any who are willing" Virgo replied. "But how could a lowly Choir Cherub ever challenge an Ophanim? We have no power." Caprico tried to reason, not wishing to see his dear angel eviscerated. "It does not matter, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. I shall turn their very essence against themselves."

"But will you return?" Caprico said shedding a tear, "for all that is good and gracious and beautiful in this world, and for you especially, I will move heaven and earth to make it so. May the good see me through and honor my quest ... and my love ..."

forever virgin,
forever young,
they lift their voices,
their love is sung

The two shall never join as one,
yet never shall they part;
denied the closeness of the flesh,
they meet within the heart.
