For it's 20th year, I've started a project to illustrate every (major) chapter in the GeneX series! (sfw only)
It's time for GeneX: Entering Despair! I'll go over each pic chapter by chapter and briefly explain them. Or you could read the fanfic. I've got pools for the stories, and bigger stories have been collected into arcs as well, like this arc here: https://inkbunny.net/s/2863003
Ch. 1 - Fera appears before Violet the echidna, offering her to join the Covenant of Despair to avenge her parents' murder at the hands of humans. Violet hesitates, though she's lived a life of sorrow since that terrible day...
Ch. 2 - Violet hears the mob discussing plans for a robbery. When she goes to the police, the human chief grows enraged with her and sends his officers to beat her up. She's only saved when the robbery takes place and the police are called away. After this senseless brutality, Violet accepts Fera's offer. (Unbeknownst to her, the chief was on Despair's payroll...)
Ch. 3 (images 3 & 4) - The Covenant of Despairs new agents require training. Daisy the skunk trains at swordplay, while Violet shows an aptitude for dark magic. Fera trains Violet in the dark arts personally.
Ch. 4 - Violet's first mission goes a bit awry when Copter and Razor both interfere. (Separately.) Violet's hesitancy to shoot Razor leads one of her allies, Mitch the weasel, to get shot in the foot. He lives, but his foot is replaced with a robotic one.
Ch. 5 (images 6 & 7) - The Covenant of Despair launches an attack on GUN Outpost Shadowy Black. During the battle, Violet witnesses her new friend, Simon the gecko, get stabbed to death by GUN's Dr. Nammad with his latest invention, the "Artificial Chaos Sword." Violet chases him, and soon witnesses Fera struggling against Colonel Thade's Shadow Striker mech. Remembering Simon's death, Violet's rage empowers her magic, destroying Shadow Striker! Thade dies, resulting in the genuinely evil Richard Gunner taking his place as Colonel. Simon's friends hold a small funeral for him at Despair's HQ. Violet leaves a violet at his grave, determined never to let her friends die again...
This short tragedy set the table for the next big story, GeneX - Knuckles the Echidna. It'll probably take months for me to complete the images for that story, assuming I finish them at all ^^'
