Again, these are not strawman comics, I actually had these two separate conversations with a feminist family member and a misoginyst friend. I'm not preaching anything, I just found the contrast hilarious.

Also I freaking love "Good Things Go".

Oh man I can definitely see the volatility of this topic (Linkin Park anyway, modern misogynists and feminists feel kinda batshit to me and wouldn't want anything to do with either side, But same stands true for politics in general!)

As for Linkin Park. . . I find it frustrating because classic LP appeals to a portion of my brain that feels satisfying in a way many bands cannot replicate, there are some others that do but they are rare. New LP with Emily honestly feels less like LP and more like a cross between Fort Minor and Evenascence but not in a good way. And frankly I think I would be more interested in Emily's LP if whenever she did a show and a classic LP song was played, that she would sing the damn song, every time I have seen it happen so far she sing s handful of words before letting the audience do her job for her, and I loathe that, she should be singing with them, instead it feels more like she detests the stuff that came before her.

Frankly anymore if I am to listen to a female lead band I would much rather Listen to Nightwish or Halestorm, those ones are by far more enjoyable experiences. But that is merely my opinion, from someone that has listened to Linkin Park since they released their first album.

I swear there are like... a whole 5 people in the entire world giving feminists this bad name. The actual movement and core tenets are so mundane and sensible that most feminists genuinely don't even begin to register as anything but normal people. But nobody talks about them, so unreasonable people with insane opinions, or decent people caught in a bad (or just clippable) moment end up painting the whole group for anyone who doesn't call themselves feminist. You might agree with everything feminism stands for, but some blue haired Karen also calls herself a feminist and whatever she's into you think must be bad?

I'd caution about that viewpoint toward politics, because I don't honestly think all this extremism comes from politics. It comes from social media. The modern web is designed to serve you whatever gets the strongest reaction because it keeps you around, there's a ton of money in getting you to hate the groups that are fighting for positive change (which is bad for people at the top's bank accounts) which ultimately means you're going to get bombarded with the worst of the worst. Nobody is immune to the nonstop propaganda machine that is the almighty Algorithm - even when it's not trying to intentionally skew your outlook on the world (and even if there is no specific diabolical leaning to its outcomes), it absolutely will.

You aren't going to like what I am about to say but you kinda asked for it.

You basically proved my point, I stated that both sides feel batshit to me as a minor point to detach my comment from the political side and focused entirely on the music side. You instead latch onto the political side to rant about the misrepresentation of feminism with false narratives of 'it is only like 5 people!' which we all know is BS, meanwhile REAL feminists from the 60's, 70's, and 80's are even calling out modern feminists for being utterly batshit. Modern feminism has nothing to do with the original message of equality of sexes and equal opportunity, it purely stands on the superiority of women and the lack of need of men. And the most fucked up part of it all? It's a fucking scam, it benefits only the elite and wealthy who benefit from the discord among the populace, by having people so bent on hating each-other we can't stand united against actual sources of evil.

And really, you would caution me away from thinking both sides of the political spectrum are batshit? Really now, are you insane? cause both parties are. Neither represent the people and both love stealing our rights and freedoms. The only difference between the parties are their emblems and colors, aside from that they are both shills that lie to gullible people to manipulate the polls and put people into office that care exclusively about themselves and their agendas.

But frankly, I have no idea wtf your point was in any of that other than ranting at someone that was essentially exclusively talking about music, psycho.

And then you went on a political rant that proved them right.

And? Actually, several, to others, too? Lol.

Proved who right about what? anybody with half a brain should be able to see that Bitcoon went on a needless tirade about feminism being misrepresented to me, they picked the fight, I ended it.

I don't stand by when people make false accusations about me or what I believe. Hell I only commented on this because I do feel passionately about music that I have been listening to since before some of the people here were even born.

Horseshoe theory is a great way to avoid research. Both sides really do look bad if you don't actually research both sides. I know people from a very wide range of the political and social spectrum. I can tell you that people who have the opinion you do tend to have that opinion not because they have any clue about 'both sides' but because they let youtube tell them what to think.

But I do find it hilarious that you made a critical statement about politics/social issues and felt it should stand uncontested because it was a 'minor point.' lol. Next time you don't want to get called out on your 'minor point' being uninformed BS, don't make the minor point.
whiteblur

Oh boy, here we go with the 'you don't agree with me so obviously you know nothing about politics.' jesus this kinda argument is a reason why I stand by the both sides are Batshit position, you crave something, even lies to latch on to for some kind of hope so badly that you ignore any of the actual facts regarding the political BS surrounding the people you support.

Both sides don't look bad if you do no research, they actually look pretty mundane and mostly useless. No, when you do research you realize how utterly fucked both sides are with the constant attempts at censorship of the populace from both sides, the constant pressures to indoctrinate people into certain specific belief systems, the immediate pressure to alienate followers from people that don't believe the same thing they do. Modern U.S. politics is wildly fucked in direct correlation to the designs of our two party system that essentially forbids people from other parties from having a voice. Beliefs, Truth, Honesty, Freedom, none of those things matter in the current political arena, the only things that matter are Money and Connections, and those things are used to manipulate and abuse the people so much that the vast majority of people are blind to the fact that they are merely pawns!

But sure, lets go with me being uninformed because it suits your cause better, obviously must be true cause you said so.
ragarth
5 days, 5 hrs ago
Yep, gonna go with you being uninformed (and also possibly a little bit of projection in your claims that others are batshit). Humans are very complex. Groups of humans moreso. Do you really think "Both sides are bad" realistically represents that complex reality?

Hint: No. Someone who doesn't understand the nuance of the two sides is someone who doesn't see a difference in them. Neither side is perfect, both sides have some terrible people and terrible ideas. But one side is definitely worse than the other. That is the reality you deny.

News flash, the lesser of two evils is still EVIL if you can't wrap your head around that, then don't bother with these continued replies.

It is wild that you think voting for the lesser of two evils is a reasonable voting strategy.
ragarth

lol. So you're one of those folk who somehow manages to fail the trolley problem.

A train is runaway. If left as it is it's going to kill a family. You can hit a button to switch the track, but if you do it'll kill one person. Do you hit the button?

"Gee, both choices are evil so I'll let it hit the family."

(Yeah the more accurate trolley problem for your vote would be that you don't know which choice--A or B--the trolley will make if you do nothing, but you can also ensure it'll hit A or B. But that's not the classic trolley problem and ultimately doesn't make a difference in highlighting the logical failure of horseshoe theory.)

IMO, checking out of making a choice doesn't absolve you of the consequences.. it just makes you culpable when the greater of two evils happens as a result of your apathy.
whiteblur
4 days, 16 hrs ago
See this comparison being used for politics pisses me off, a runaway trolley/train is an uncontrollable failure that could potentially have no one at fault for the cause. Two piece of shit parties running the current political spectrum of our country are directly related to both parties supporters turning into essentially cults with minimal ability to do research and actually understand who they are voting for and instead devolving into little more than sophisticated cave-men, though arguably an insult to actual cave-men that couldn't control who they were at the time.

The current state of our country is directly related to people like you going "Well if I don't vote for who I perceive to be the lesser evil than the other evil clearly wins!" leading to both parties constituents making the exact same stupid mistakes and voting for people that barely if at all represent them and their beliefs let alone respect the sanctity of the country and what it stands for.

You'd have to be capable of critiquing your own actions to call yourself self-aware and you certainly haven't done that today. You don't want to become stronger, you just want the feeling of winning an argument and easing back into the comfort of your own bubble.

Oh boy, you really love projecting. See I know I am a fuck-up, my life is full of mistakes and things I wish I could take back, but none of those have to do with me thinking both sides of the political and social spectrum are batshit crazy and don't represent reality and the people that live here.

There's a small handful of 'viral' feminists or assumed-feminists whose Karen/ranting/screaming moments are picked up and spread all over the internet. Sometimes by people who are just poking fun at an outburst, and sometimes by people trying to smear a political faction. For some reason, many have hair dye so that sort of sticks as shorthand.

I hate that the few idiots that shit on Emily are so loud about it, when she is perfect as the lead of her version of LP. Hell, she is great when covering older songs, and her other band, Dead Sara, is really good as well. I for one can't wait for the first true album built around her (From Zero was mainly older stuff originally meant for Chester) <3
whiteblur
5 days, 15 hrs ago
See I don't shit on her but at the same time I also disagree about her being perfect as the lead, her range feels. . . mediocre? her singing reminds me more of a cover band at a local bar that sure it has some talent but not necessarily enough to satisfy fans, and fans are a fickle thing. We listen to and like music for the way it sounds, feels and touches us meaning it is our own feelings that drive our support and directly the bands success. Which also means our feelings are valid when we don't like the replacement, of course LP isn't required to listen to us but in that same note they and others aren't allowed to try and invalidate our feeling on the subject.

The truth is, to fans that have been listening from the beginning, it feels like Mike was trying to erase Chester's presence with Emily who is clearly an inferior singer to Chester (R.I.P). It leads some of us to wonder if perhaps the rumors of Mike Shinoda resenting how pivotal Chester had become to the band even though Mike had founded it were actually true. I don't know if the rumors are true but I do know that current Linkin Park is unlikely to ever see the success it had under Chester's powerful vocal range with Emily at the mic.
BookerTW

LMFAO, you are so wrong on so many levels, and I figured you were the "The band died with Chester" type. Firstly, her vocal range is magnitudes better than you claim, because no one in a cover band can hit the length of the HITC scream (17 seconds minimum) Secondly, LP has literally been more successful in the past year compared to most of the OG era, getting shows sold out at venues leagues bigger than LP ever played in the past. And lastly, Mike has stated clearly that he never had any intention to erase or overshadow what he had with Chester, and that Emily's time with the band is merely another chapter in the story of the band.
whiteblur
5 days, 14 hrs ago
1. No I don't think the band died with Chester, it changed and we are allowed to not like the new direction, the band is weak at its current state and unmemorable, heck most long time fans can't even identify their songs when heard on the radio, not a good sign.
2. Her vocal range really isn't , or if it is, we have NEVER been given an example of them. Her musical range seems to sit somewhere between Lzzy Hale of Halestorm and Amy Lee of evanescence without the power of Lzzy or the charisma of Amy. And clearly you have never seen Linkin Park cover bands before.
3. Yes in Europe Linkin Park has had strong numbers, but not bigger than Chester's LP, they have rivaled it with an equivalent number at say Wembley stadium being nearly identical to Chester's last show, in America however the show numbers have dropped horrendously, not even able to sell out Dodgers stadium to the point that they had to downsize to a smaller venue.
As for the rest, like I said, they are rumors, some mentioned by Chester's own family and Mike's Ex, who knows how true they are, I sure can't say, But I can and will say the bands sound, vibe, and standing with the fans has suffered. Whether you agree or not is fine but as it stands I personally am unimpressed. Their new music would be more at home on an Evanescence album than a Linkin Park.

I think Emily is doing a great job. Sure, she's not Chester, but that's kinda the point. it hurts, but he has passed on, and nobody can truly replace him. I like the songs she's worked on, and while it is a different sound, it's kinda hard for a band not to change over several years. I'm looking forward to what they make next!

(The Emptiness Machine is fighting Numb for my favorite LP song rn, they're both so good and just hit me deep)

She is fine as a singer, I don't expect her to replace Chester, nor do I think she should. I don't like them covering their older songs with her simply because his voice worked so well and really gave soul to those songs while she just feels kinda flat in them. I just don't listen to covers then.

This happened the same thing with Nightwish to me.

Tarjah Turunen will always be the main singer in my heart and Floor is not that great to my taste.
So I refrain to just listen to Tarjah's Nightwish versions and not make a fuse about it. :P

She's a second generation in Scientology, but very much isn't a Scientologist in any meaningful way. She's literally queer and has Dead Sara songs that wouldn't fly if she really was a Scientologist.

To some folks, the disconnect between one belief and the next just isn't noticed or considered. When pointed out, some of them become hostile. I'm always surprised that there are female misogynists, but there are. Just as strange as, say, women (who are, from what I've seen, usually themselves proud voters) who say women should lose the right to vote because they're not intelligent enough. Blows my mind.

I'm deeply thankful that, while most of my family are self-avowed feminists, none are like Miss Menbad here. The only misogynist I know, who was proudly so for a couple of decades, has finally met a woman who wasn't problematic (he had supremely bad luck in the few before her, but didn't have many dating experiences period). He just got married, is happier than I've ever seen him, and is rapidly relaxing and changing his "everything is garbage and I hate everyone equally" attitude towards the world.

.....I literally have no freaking idea what any of this is in reference to, who Emily or Charlie are, what LP refers to, or why any of it all connects to feminism, misogyny, politics, or music.  I am completely lost.

I'll be happy to explain: Chester Bennington, who was the lead vocalist of Linkin Park (LP), died in 2017. Emily Armstrong took his place in the band in 2024. This comic references two people I personally know: a feminist who viewed said replacement as negative, and a misogynist who saw it as positive. I found that disonance amusing. And that's it. There was never any politics in this picture.

Ah.  Thank you, Doc.  Honestly, Hybrid Theory was the only album of theirs that I cared for back when I was a newly-legal drinker, so I guess I..... have absolutely no opinion other than "They haven't all died in a horrible plane crash, so they are doing objectively better than a ton of other bands."

....seriously, has anyone else noticed that airplanes are amongst the top 3 causes of death for musicians?

The overwhelming majority of people don't have a consistent set of principles that they strive to apply throughout their life. Call it Median Voter Syndrome, if you will.

And even the ones who do, who will stop and think and go 'wait, I'm being a hypocrite' will sometimes make knowing carveouts from one set of principles or another. Like how even though it's wrong to mock others' appearance, I have no problems saying that, for instance, Andrew Tate looks phenotypically homosexual; because he's scum.
