no.21: Lancer - DELTARUNE

UNDERTALE is a game that is very near and dear to my heart. There's been a lot in my life that has revolved around it and for better or for worse in some cases, it's something I've grown very attached to. This connection also extends to DELTARUNE, even it doesn't fully capture the magic of it's predecessor, but to be fair, what could? While I feel it'll always play second fiddle to it's contemporary, there's still a lot to love about DELTARUNE and that's primarily in the same place that UNDERTALE excelled; it's characters.

One such character being the absolute goblin child that is Lancer!

Now in retrospect it may seem off to include Lancer into a Halloween Countdown. He's not exactly scary in anyway and after chapter one he is definitively a good guy -- Not that he was very good at being a bad guy, but for just this moment I want to hearken back to when Lancer was an absolute shit-eating little goblin. That's not to say that he isn't one still to this day, but I digress.

Even at his best, Lancer exudes a Lock, Shock and Barrel-esque aura that makes him perfect for Halloween. He is pure chaos wrapped up in a well meaning, albeit mischievous package and I think that's something that needs to be remembered. Halloween isn't always about dark horrors, it's also about the playful tricks. The innocent-(and sometime not so innocent)-pranks. It's about children having fun, sometimes at others' expense and with DELTARUNE chapters 3 and 4 coming out earlier this year I couldn't think of a character that fulfills that role, nor a better time to shout out this round little turd!
