"Catastrophic system failure"

Out on as much of a stroll as a legless fish can go on, Conduit crawled his way through a forest, marveling at how it looked. It was still surreal to him to be out of water for so long and in a place that was so strange to him, but the water-breathing gear he'd made was doing its job well, letting him see places he could only imagine before. Although, unknown to him, the tank wasn't quite holding up so well; a crack had formed in the bottom of it, and after a particularly rough jostling, it broke, starting to pour out water!

Conduit felt it before he saw it, the water he needed to breathe now running along his back. Panic immediately filled him as he realized just what was happening, but he tried his best to think clearly. He'd passed a pond a little while ago, with the water he had left and what he could hold inside him he should still be able to get back there... But it was going to be close. And even if he made it, he'd have to come up with a plan to get back to the river he'd started from.
