Feraligatr’s day hadn’t started well. First, he found out right after waking up that his teammates had ditched him in order to go on a daytrip, not before leaving him as the assigned explorer in reserve. Then, the guild canteen had run out of his favorite berries, meaning that he had to start his day on an empty stomach. To make matters worse, it seemed that the vast majority of the guild had also taken a day off, leaving all the piled tasks to him and a few other unfortunate mons.
As such, Feraligatr was forced to spend most of what should have been a day of rest venturing the labyrinthian trails of Fuchsia Forest, an infamous fairy-type dungeon, looking for some unremarkable item or lost civilians. All whilst still hungry from his lack of breakfast. That’s why Feraligatr didn’t care much about the mission and instead opted to leave his mind blank, simply focusing on what he would do after he was done with today’s job. Unfortunately, that lack of attention would prove to be Feraligatr’s undoing. As he reached another floor in the forest, his eyes failed to notice a weird tile just a few feet away from the stairs. The tile itself didn’t look like the usual trap, and instead it seemed to be some sort of handcrafted device, probably built by the dungeon’s fairy denizens. Still, Feraligatr’s eyes focused on the stairs, completely omitting the tile. The water type’s mind was too busy celebrating an easy and short floor to notice the moment when his foot pressed on the mysterious tile.
Everything happened in a flash. One second, he was deep within Fuchsia Forest, the next he was completely blinded by a pink-ish flash of light that only lasted a few seconds. In that short time, as his mind raced to make sense of what was happening, Feraligatr could feel a weird tingling sensation extend to all of his limbs, followed by a severe sensation of nausea. When he came back to his senses, Feraligatr immediately knew that something was very wrong. First, he was no longer inside Fuchsia Forest, as the lack of signal being emitted by his badge indicated. Second, he wasn’t at the dungeon’s entrance either, but rather a bizarre rocky forest made up of towering thin trees. In addition, he could spot gargantuan brown structures extending far into the sky, taller than anything he had ever seen. Those structures alone could rival Sky Tower, something that boggled Feraligatr’s mind to no end. Nevertheless, he wouldn’t have much time to think about his whereabouts, as soon enough, the relative peace that reigned in the forest was broken by a series of rhythmic and thundering sounds that kept increasing in intensity as well as proximity. At first, Feraligatr thought that a storm was coming, but a quick look at the clear blue sky above quickly disproved him. Then, when the earth itself started shaking with each booming crash, he was finally able to see something in the distance that left him speechless. What Feraligatr saw was nothing other than a moving orange mountain heading his way. The whole structure was too far for him to fully see, but one thing was apparent, and that was its size. By all accounts, something so big shouldn’t be able to move. Feraligatr had heard tales of violent volcano eruptions in the water continent, but he had never heard of a moving mountain or volcano.
As the imposing structure drew ever nearer, Feraligatr finally made a shocking discovery. On a closer look, the approaching mountain resembled a charmander, a huge one in fact, one that he remembered from one of the rookie teams back in the guild. Feraligatr struggled with this fact, since as far as he could remember, the last time he had seen Charmander, he was barely 2 feet tall, not almost a mile. Something wasn’t adding up in the water type’s mind. The only logical conclusion his mind could reach was that somewhere in the dungeon, something had caused him to shrink to a fraction of an inch! Feraligatr cursed himself for not paying more attention to his surroundings. Still, his train of thought was suddenly interrupted when the area around him was cloaked in darkness. One quick look upwards confirmed his worst fears. Whilst he was distracted, Charmander had kept on walking and was now upon him. The sky was soon replaced by the grimy and sweaty underside of Charmander’s foot as he readied his next step, happily unaware of the fate of any germ or shrunken explorer unfortunate enough to cross paths with him. In a fit of panic, Feraligatr started to run, not wanting to end up smashed under the cream-colored sole. However, it was too little too late for the water type, as soon everything started to go darker and darker as the foot approached. The last thing he noticed before everything went dark was the musky scent of Charmander’s paws after a full day of hanging around the village enjoying his free day.
Meanwhile at the same time, Charmander had been enjoying his free day to its fullest. After getting a double ration of berries for breakfast, he had decided to go on a long stroll through the village before joining an impromptu racing match with his other teammates. It had been indeed a wonderful summer day, a bit too hot perhaps, even for the fire type. After some more hours of playing and hanging around, he decided to go back to the main square to drink from the fountain before heading back to the guild for lunch. Through all of this, Charmander remained completely unaware of the plight of Feraligatr at his paws.
Still, it would seem that Feraligatr had some luck left. When he regained consciousness, he noticed that he had managed to incrust himself in one of Charmander’s toe-gaps. Despite the extremely hazy and musky environment, he couldn’t avoid letting out a sigh of relief given that he had avoided the worst possible outcome. As he basked in this brief happiness, Charmander’s steps kept shaking him to his core. In addition, he was left with the daunting task ahead of gaining Charmander’s attention somehow.
Feraligatr wasn’t aware of the fact that he would be forced to live on Charmander’s body for months before regaining his size back…
