Although I am not transgender in real life, I created René Taxel partly to broaden the horizons of my conception of gender, a process including familiarising myself with singular they (and learning about equivalents, approximate or otherwise, in other languages). As soon as they were created I had the idea of their two heads kissing to form a heart, their necks long enough to allow this – but I got sidetracked by the Carleson project (the title of René's first reference Doubling Metric Measure Spaces is Carleson's principal setting) and the news on 25 April 2025 that my computer science PhD application to the National University of Singapore had been accepted. I only finished vectoring my idea on the last day of Pride Month.
